We have slightly modified his experiments. In ours, an electromagnetic shaker excites a steel plate on which we have spread colored sand. When we set the shaker to exactly a natural frequency of the plate, it vibrates in the corresponding natural mode. The sand follows this vibration and the so-called mode shape becomes visible to our human eye. All without any software.
