I met her while i was bartending in Savannah GA and she is the most genuine and sweetest person. I love watching interviews and movies with her now because I know how authentic she is
277imperator 404 area code here. I do not have a southern accent because we are in Atlanta. Maybe her parents have an accent. My mom does. She’s appealing to the masses and acting the slang out in a southern accent.
Eh? That’s nice! Us brits use it an awful lot aswell, bless us 😂💕 ( by us, I mean you. It’s another slang here where we say us instead of me/you. So like e.g oh babe would you mind giving us a drink or e.g thanks for having us over)
Alice Plamedie it can also be used sarcastically in the south 😂 like if someone does something dumb/makes a stupid remark. You would say “bless your heart” to them. My best friend used to always say “oh bless it” whenever I’d say something crazy 😂 Or it can be used in a bitchy way if someone is being rude to you.
Sometimes people do intentionally hide their accents to fit in their current social environment, but sometimes their accents naturally adapt to the current or new social environment. Sometimes both events occur.
Newdll I believe that stereotype or belief applies to all types of foreign or uncommon accents. It’s a big stigma to have an accent not commonly heard in the region one lives in. It’s equivalent to having a speech impediment or disorder. People can be made fun of and teased because of their accent. I remember I would always feel dumb when students would correct me when I said a word in my Nigerian accent; it was so embarrassing! I hated my accent , and I wanted to talk like a (typical) American, like Hilary Duff or Lindsay Lohan.
In my experience in west TN, it was something only said by your mom, aunts, or grandmother and sometimes teachers when you are actin a fool and they want to let you know the consequences if you continue...usually (actually always) unpleasant for you. But I am much older than her and corporal punishment was much more common when I was growing up.
@@uldanbangjung1108 Yeah it basically means don't make me do something I don't want to do, and you don't want me to do either, but I will because I can and I think you deserve it right now.
I live in washington state too and we definitely don't say over half of these. lol. idk what smol is talking about. at least not normally. lived in WA all my live and I'm nearly 30
I grew up in Connecticut. I went to Birmingham, Alabama once to visit friends. I was there for four days and picked Y’all up and I’ve been saying it ever since.
The dictionary got so tired of people in the south not listening to English teachers in school to not say "Yall" , they officially put it in the dictionary 🤣 it's about time! They ain't nothing wrong with it! I don't know what else we would say in Georgia
Some of these aren’t just Georgia Slang, it’s more southern slang. I grew up all over the world, but my parents are Floridians and these “slang words” were used in my house.
I don't know if this just southern slang, I grew up in West Virginia and all of these were used. Except like she said, it wasn't Willy's, it was the DQ. and we also spelled "all y'all" correct. Some other comment said why didn't they include "oh bless their heart" as well. I thought that would have been a good addition
Same, Grew up in Virginia and we use all of them except Coke means just one beverage for us which is Coca Cola if we meant a variety then it just soda or pop and we don't use Willy's
@@heather22va again, its slang. There is no standardized plural you in English, they spell it ya'll in some places because there is no correct spelling I've lived in Georgia a week short of my whole life, I know its normally spelled y'all. But it isn't inaccurate to spell it ya'll
it's a contraction. even slang has rules, my dude, and it's "y(ou) all", not "ya (a)ll". whether the you is plural or not is irrelevant. i've always lived here.
I had the biggest crush on her since I was 12 now I'm 17 ...as a guy ...this causes a lot of problems such as : KNOWING YOU WILL NEVER EVER BE ABLE TO DATE HER
Kennedy Clemons how? I’ve lived no where else but Georgia and can say I didn’t know a lot. Like that dumplin thing is something I see people here saying but never something I heard
I'm Floridian and have used most of these my whole life, just the Georgia specific ones like Willy's and Varsity were new to me. I always thought they were just general Southern sayins.
Aw bless your heart, you's a special little dumplin ain't ya. Been around them English teacher that falsely believe that ain't is not a word. Well don't ya worry none I'll give'n ya example: Jimbo, can yadothat? I usetacould, can'u? Mightcould. Well git at'iten. Translation: Jimmy Bobby, my dearest friend. Do you believe you can attempt to do such a thing as complicated? Ah yes old friend. I will have you know a long time ago I not only attempted such a thing, I succeeded as well. What about yourself? Would you take on such an endeavor? Jimmy Bobby, I would give it my best forthwith. Well then, what are you waiting for.
This is so funny because I live in a small town in Georgia and I use all of these and I don't even think about it, it's just normal for me. She is so relatable for me too, love her ❤️
I've always adored Georgia, and have wanted to live in Atlanta since I was a weein. Hopefully one day I can make the journey across the water (Irish girl here heyyyyy!) And settle there
come on over, I live in Atlanta and your Irish accent would be unique and lovely. A lot of people in the south including my family can be traced back to Ireland and Scotland. So there are still some words we use that you might recognize. Georgia and the south in general is a very open and accepting place.
wow willy's is such an institution now. i remember willy himself running the prep station in the first store on roswell rd. i ate there almost daily in HS. i actually got him to add things to the menu.
That's how I feel when an Aussie or Brit actor/actress who plays an American with a perfect (general) American accent talks in his/her native accent in interviews 😂! Hats off to Liam Hemsworth, Jamie Dornan, Cate Blanchette, and Nicole Kidman 🤩-- that's talent!
@@robotikempire yeah, after listening to it again I think she did say swell instead of smell, but she didn't say they hurt which is what I've always attributed the saying to.
When she was just a child I told myself she's gonna be a gorgeous young lady when she'll grow up. Yet for some reason I still sense that innocent child in her, I hope she doesn't lose it ever!
*she and elle fanning should be in a movie together! Also i don't understand why elle is so overrated than her :/ i mean chloe is much longer in this business and acts (just a tiny lil bit) better. But anyways, love 'em both
@@haghendowdy4750 Lawrence is best friends with my cousin, they went to Highschool together at Cartersville. I'm actually a UGA fan, and he broke our hearts when he went to Clemson...lol . but he's a great kid. Dang shame he didn't go to UGA. Never met Moretz, but she's a little cutie. I think she's never had a chance to play a real star roll yet, IMO. But she'll get her chance.
@Jimbodawg, well, their just fine, pumpkin. Ya know, Caroline missed Bible study yestidy. Oh, Bless her heart. The woman is sweet as sugar grits and country as cornbread, but she has got her hands full with that chile of hers. Oh lord almighty, I’ll pray for her.
