Nice, I was forced to learn Arborist work about 5 yrs ago & invested alot in equipment. Many rigging ropes & different equipment for sending limbs down. Not long after i started i had to cut many long limbs off a dead red oak. Some of the branches had already snapped off from the stem but some very large woodvines were holding them off the ground. I called the prusik/carabiner technique a choker cuz i was choking off the slack in my climber lanyard. But ive heard it being called a floater. 1st time i heard the choker term. There r alot of people using saddles for bowhunting & people r using lanyards while stepping on these sticks they wrap around the 🌳 for a foothold. Ive been telling the makers of these videos to start putting a choker on their lanyard or linesman that they use. Nicest thing about a choker is that it will stop u cold on one side & allow u to move where u need to. ➕️ in under a minute u can switch it & go vice versa. It really helped me make them cuts on that old dead red oak i had.

@@StridertreesConstructive criticism, no disrespect; lose the background noise. The subject & your narration of it is great! The addition of distracting, monotonous & annoying music ruined the vid for me.

SRS is all the rage, but MRS with a friction saver works fine as well. The last thing I want to do is spend a bunch of time messing with my climbing system while I've got a 15 pound saw on my hip.

It is possible to switch the akimbo to zigzag for all the positioning trick you showed?

hmmm IDK if double cinching is really any more effective. you wouldnt have to spin it around the spar for to get the same result spinning a single cinch around the spar would create.

What helmet and visor setup is that? My visor tends to get caught alot due to it riding about an inch above the helmet

@@kasynstone733 yeah this will be my next helmet for sure. Protos is way to big for me would make it harder to fit through spaces while climbing this would be perfect

Jared looks too comfy in that position. Notice how his lower leg is extended, and his upper leg is bent. This helps on a leaner. Falling into the gate of a carabiner is generally a bad idea. Try to load the spine, with the gate facing away from the load. I prefer a Quickie or carabiner with the stronger ANSI gate for choking on a spar. Great tips, as always, Josiah. I have not tried the Talon climbers yet, and your ad is enticing.😂

Thanks for your input there. Im personally not a big fan of the quickie. It’s effective, but I’ll take the compromise of a slight possibility of damage to a carabiner and the consequences of that to preserve the advantage of a spring loaded automatic locking 😅 I’ve had a couple close calls with the quickie when apparently I didn’t set it completely and it came most of the way back out… I WONT choke with a carabiner around a small spar though because of the side loading :)

Why would you srt climb a spar. People will do anything to overcomplicate this trade
