What an amazing collection, thanks for sharing! Question: what is the optimum number of Japanese Maples to have in your garden? Answer: just one more than you currently possess.....
I am obsessed with japanese maples! So far, I have 12 (including pung kil, koto no ito, coral bark, etc)! I am looking for pink variegated one to complete my collection. If only they weren't this expensive!
Look forward to all of your uploads Charlie, thanks for taking the time. Just picked up a Mikawa after seeing some of yours, at the moment (because it changes weekly) my favourite is a 7 foot Ariadene which i have, great form and beautiful colours this time of year.
I like both trees. As for placement, Twombly's grows to be a large tree, 14' tall and 10' wide. Shaina grows to 5' tall and 6' wide. I am not sure what you want from your planting but I would guess the Shaina in the from and the Twombly's to the side or back yard.
Woow; It's so amazing, treasury ..etc. I'm so stunning. May I know how make or mix soil or the best way to make Japanese maple's soil to grow rapidly. Your answer is my appreciation very much to you. Best redard, Kenny
@@johnbyrd8115 As for my parents, my dad turned 92 and is slowing down a lot. I am so happy that there is RU-vid where my parents and their garden will be seen for a long time. For me I needed a break from the trees so that has been as much to blame for lack of new videos.
Well to bad I’m not around to help out. Being around that many maples would be fun. Well (seems) fun. I guess it’s all fun and games till you have as many as you do. Haha
Oh yea, Mikawa has great shape, gets it s leaves early with very little dieback and has some of the last leaves with great fall color and in winter it is really cool to look at.
My mikawa here in upstate NY got a reddish / yellow / even purple. I was hoping for a glowing pumpkin orange. I wish you were in NY definitely would take several off your hands. I have over 30 maples so far !
@@greenlantern1123 I am glad to live here in the PNW with our mild weather. For me I have cut back the number of different varieties since I found many of the unusual ones don't sell and end up falling apart in the pot.
Matt - I personally do not graft to give a full answer. I do know that the high graft tend to not have as pretty of look but I believe the success rate of survival is higher on a taller graft. I see this a lot with the tough conifers, the growers tend to offer more of them on taller grafts. There are some trees such as Hana matoi which look great on a 6' high standard and then grow down to the ground
Just ordered Japanese Princess, Mayday & Sensu from Eastfork Nursery after hearing you mention Sam in another video. All I can say is Thank You ! I hope to buy many more from Eastfork.
i have several favorites for different locations. My number 1 tree is Mikawa yatsubusa because they are the most fun to prune. Second favorite is Amber Ghost since it has a great structure and a kaleidoscope of color that makes it stand out from the other trees. After that .........
