In this episode of Growing Wisdom we visit StoneGate gardens in Lincoln, MA to learn about Japanese Maple Trees. Featuring Fire Glow, Autumn Moon & More!
I have recently started growing JM's from cuttings and have 12 new plants. My Dad gave me a Sycamore Maple sapling back in 2000 which we potted up and it has grown well. By 2016 it was about 12 feet tall. This May, I pruned it down to 2 feet leaving a side branch and it has responded very well with 5 new branches and many leaves and is 4 feet tall now in a large pot. I even have it appear in some of my YT videos as it's been around for so long :)
I'm obsessed with Acers and my wife thinks I'm nuts. 18 total trees, 15 varieties in Central Texas Zone 8B- Bloodgood, Shantung, Baby Dragon, Fire Dragon, Deshojo, Mikawa yatsubusa, Geisha Gone Wild, Trompenburg, Peaches N Cream, Ara Kawa, Moonfire, Coral Bark, Orange Flame, Coonara Pygmy, and 2 large Autumn Blaze.
I have two Japanese maples. One is deep red and the other starts starts as green then changes in fall to a bright orange/salmon color. Both are about 5 feet tall. They are very beautiful.
Hello , I just purchased. A tamukeyama Japanese maple and was wondering the average height and width of this particular species and AM I able to prune this if I plant it near my front walkway to my home . thanks for any help
Is there a type of Japanese Maple that might have the branches grow more horizontally? We would like to have a tree in a large container on our deck that offers filtered light. (Coastal Southern Ca). Ideally we would like the tree to have more of an umbrella shape to it. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
What is the best growing Japanese Maple for Hawaii? I live on the Big Island and where I live we do have cooler temps in the 50's-60's in the evening and warmest around 82 degrees during high noon.
This is the beauty decaying cities need-- urban spaces need green life, not just neighborhoods but business areas. We need to get rid of a lot of asphalt (save for reuse on road repair) We need to bring the dirt back to places where we live and work
I have transplanted many seedlings from under my tree and the small stones at the edge of my driveway to pots. Some seeds germinate well in gravel. Looking for a unique offspring to graft.
lord if anyone can help me with a variety that will tolerate orlando fl heat zone 9b the area i have gets sun up until 3 pm ish. summer heat can be at 100f looking for small medium plant almost like a small dogwood
All of them are good depending on what you want to do. Most plants keep in a container will eventually slow its large growth, typically its part of bonsaing your tree.

So i don’t have the money to buy one ( 200euro) isn’t kinda upsetting that people destroy trees only to make money out of it! Trees should be free because our earth 🌍 needs them
