Great video. I already have a jetboil stove, I am planning on purchasing a wood burning stove, either the solo stove or biolite stove (I haven’t decided yet) Also, thank you for making this video short and to the point. Some RU-vidrs these days make the videos unnecessary long so they can make ad revenue and stuff like that. You have a new subscriber!

Thanks for dropping by. I would also add to your list of wood burners to review the Firebox stoves-we use the G2 5" a lot on long trips as it will burn biomass but can also be fitted with a gas burner and an alcohol burner. All are great choices! fireboxstove.com

i do a lot of camping by the water, rivers . and on state land. sometimes on private secluded land. were a smokeless stove if very useful. boiling water for dehydrated food packs and a quick tea or coffee. love these things. leave no trace. or smoke signals.

Just got the Titan as a bday gift from my parents. It is absolutely AWESOME!! Perfect for my wife and I. Whether we’re camping or just hanging outside enjoying a fire at night with some music. Definitely recommend the Titan for 2 people,

adding titan was really useful' i do motorcycle camping sometimes. i think for me is better to choose titan, lite would be too small and hard work. thank you, keep up with a good job.

Great job. That was super. I went with the Campfire for a trip down the John Day this June. Just two of us, but we’ll fun on our SUPs during the day, but enjoy the Campfire for an mini-epic night.

Thanks for watching and glad that it helped. If you sign up for their emails you will find that they have sales on stuff often if you are interested in the pots. I normally don't "cook" in naked stainless steel unless it is liquid based but the pots doe nest very well with the stove.

*I just want a mobile Fire Pit, as small as possible to take backpacking and cycling with. Is the Solo stove Mini going to be fun to use as a firepit? I don't mind a small fire, I just don't want to feed it constantly when not even cooking just relaxing by the fire. And is those square folding up wood twig stoves a better fire pit option? I saw videos on both where you can make DIY Swedish fire torches by putting 4 short branches inside inside, shaped like cylinders standing up, and start your kindling at the very bottom in the hollow middle part of the bundle of wood and itll burn very long like a normal Swedish fire torch, all inside the metal fire pit. Would a foldable stove a small very small one be a better fire pit than using the mini solo stove?? Thank you Really good video, very concise and descriptive. Would be cool to see those with fires inside burning in all 3 as you talked though!*

Thanks for the question. I would probably not use the Solo Lite for a fire pit-it consumes fuel at a very rapid rate and you would be fueling it constantly. I do think a Firebox stove would be better than a Solo for this use but you might also check out the Wolf and Grizzly Fire Safe which is very small when packed but serves as a nice little fire pit. The Firebox is a bit cheaper than the Fire Safe. There are other folding stoves as well, I happen to really like the Firebox products and they have a variety of sizes.

Thanks for the size comparisons! I have a question-- do the fire pit versions have to be FULL of wood for the secondary combustion to happen, or will it work just as well with just one or two logs burning inside? Thanks again!

Thanks for watching and the comment. The pit works best when it has a good load of wood, but not higher than the upper hot air vents. It needs to be good and hot for the gasifier to really get humming, once it burns down the gasification will stop. I would not say it needs a FULL load of wood once it is really warmed up but it does need some new wood and flames to keep it going.

Campfire is best value - especially when also used as mini fire pit … only a little more $ than the Mesa fire pit but noticeably larger

I have not seen the Mesa but would not mind being able to pick up the pellet holster to throw in the Campfire or Titan (not sure which is close the the size of the Mesa. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for watching. Yes the stove has its own stuff sack to keep things clean and fits into the associated pot and pot stuff sack. Yes, that is why I like the Titan, great size and not always needing to be fed.

Only issue I had was keeping a fire going but I'm new at this so still learning. I need to start collecting some dry wood. :). Thank you for the review on these, made the decision easier.

Nice review! I'm forced to use the Solo Stove Titan on our wooden balcony and the heat at the bottom is no problem, it's just "very warm". I'm thinking about getting the Campfire, but because of it's larger size and footprint I wonder if it gets a lot hotter (it is the largest Solo Stove that doesn't have a metal ring to keep the heat from the bottom). Could you say something about the bottom heat of the Titan compared to the Campfire?

That is a great question, unfortunately I have not done any study of the stoves in this regard, I would guess that they manage heat about the same but that is just a guess. What you might do is purchase one of those silicone hot pads to place under the stove to insulate the wood on the deck from any heat so that you remove the risk. I think they are about $12-$15. @@VictorSteiner I have used the silicone for camping on a picnic table with no problem. Looking at the 7” (same diameter as the Campfire) silicone hot pad from ThermWorks it says it is rated to 600 degrees F. I suspect that is plenty of wiggle room but you might pop a note to Solo and ask them.

Although the bottom doesn't seem to get really hot I think it would be a good idea to put something like a silicon trivet or a base under it if I were using it on a wooden stand/table.

so i must be old. none of those beat the old school canteen and cup cooker form way back. as each person carries the same thing adding people makes no problem. add 1 of the small stove items that are a fold up rocket stove and you can still cook in your canteen cup and get by very light.

They are very handy if there is a good supply of twigs, pretty efficient. But if you are out for a long time you would want a back up for sure.

Will the titan nest in the campfire?

Thanks for checking us out. The answer is yes and no. The Titan will sit inside the Campfire but it sits well higher than the sides of the Campfire. The other problem is that the Titan does not sit inside the top ring of the Campfire with the pot holder tabs so that you can not really nest them for transportation purposes.

Thanks for watching and commenting. You are correct that cooking over a wood fire is dirtier than a stove. To minimize the pot blackening I often use the old Boy Scout trick of coating the outside of the pot with liquid dish soap. When you wash the pot afterward it cleans right up. That being said a good patina of black on the pot is a thing of beauty in my book!

That is a great question and, not to be evasive, I would say maybe. If you are strictly concerned with size and weight for solo backpacking and are boiling water for beverages or freeze dried meals and are fine feeding the fire while the water is boiling I would say it is fine. For me though I do find it a bit small and hungry which is why we really prefer the Titan for our needs (water, smaller skillet, two people want to have a small fire pit as well) I think that is the sweet spot in the line up. The Campfire is a nice pit and can cook a lot but we just don't find ourselves using it as much as normally just the two of us these days. One other thing to consider is that the Lite will hold an alcohol burner nicely so you do have the option of using alternative fuel in that size which would alleviate some of the need for constant tending.

@@uzumakinaruto4862 I am not sure that, given the same amount of fuel, that one would burn any faster than the other. What you will see is that the Lite, being the smallest, will see the secondary combustion with much less fuel because the entire chamber will heat up much better. Being hotter the Lite may consume the fuel a bit faster. The problem I have with the Lite is that the chamber is so small that it will not hold much fuel and thus needs refueling faster. Also just a note when you say wood pellets if you are talking about the pellets used in pellet smokers these will not work in the Solo Camp Stoves as the grate mesh is too wide.

Oddly I have never taken my Solo stoves on the motorcycle but the Titan would fit the bill, even the Lite for solo trip.

Hahahah, yes those came out after my video! Maybe if they send me one I can do a side by side between the Mesa and the camping stoves! For me the Titan is the sweet spot for two people and the one we use most often if we are going out knowing the weather and fuel availability.

@@dickinaroundoutdoors8609 I have the Solo *Lite* ($130 canadian) for Dayhikes...it takes up little real estate in my backpack and is super lightweight. Great for making coffee, and warming up a freeze dried meal. We have tons of fire material / fallen branches in our woods up here in N.Ontario Canada. We have long fire bans up here, so having this freedom to make a fire, on a picnic bench is great. So I got the Solo *Titan* ($150 canadian) for weekend trips...great for water boiling, fishing trips and also warms up my canvas trappers tent , nicely. I've used it everyday , all through the winter season in Northern Canada, and have got minimal rust (due to forgetting in outside for a couple of days in the rain)....it definitely is one of my most used, loved bushcraft purchases. My wife gets concerned about our frequent power outages, cooking and warmth in the winter..She is a bit of a Preppergirl. So to complement our Wood stove , I ordered the next size up ...Solo *Ranger* with the heat reflector... ($500 Canadian) for family backyard gatherings, barbecuing over an open fire, marshmallows and smores etc for the Gkids, and I love the option of putting it in the truck and having a fire in the camp grounds, parks, beaches, and families backyards...lol I am loving the solo products. 🤩👍

@@kan-zee Ya they are some nice stuff. We are doing a six day trip starting this week and taking the Solo Lite as our only stove but taking the alcohol burner as a backup so all should be good.
