Agree! I am remodeling and decorating and I live for Garrett's genius advice. I want to do it right the first time since it's time consuming and $$$. TY!
You are a breath of fresh air in an otherwise oversaturated topic category! Your tutorial on the use of color in interior design is a mini master class that illuminates so many integral points in a way that is both entertaining and educational. I so look forward to experiencing how your channel and message develops. Bravo!
Husband and I put you on the big screen so we could be in Garrett's classroom together! Really, really learned a lot and we have to thank you for becoming one of our teachers as we design our dream home!
I can hardly use any colours ... I simply don't have the courage to it. I think I need to watch this video again as it was too fast. Thank you very much for your efforts ... Amazing ...
I have a wall that is one color - wall, fireplace, everything but the wooden mantel. Eucalyptus green. Stunning. Everything else is white. Really makes you feel at ease.
You just got “it” honey! To the point, concise understanding of tasteful design! Brilliantly expressed and so easy to understand. Love that for us! Love that for me!
I swore, after moving from rental to houses we were only living in for a minute or couldn't be changed (military family), none of my walls will be white! My kids are already choosing their colors and I'm debating all the gorgeous colors my walls will be 🌈
Hi Garret, I enjoy your channel and admire your ability to explain design. You have a natural gift for teaching, and more importantly, you are one of those rare talents who so freely imparts your wisdom and expertise - there’s no bravado, no condescension. I appreciate your enthusiasm and dedication to your audience. Thank you so much.
This video is very helpful, Garrett. Thank you! Before now, I’ve never had the time and/or money to renovate a home. It is exciting and fun, but also a little scary. I appreciate your videos and the images you share when you’re describing design concepts. Have you ever thought about doing a video about when it’s appropriate to hire professional interior designers and decorators, what services and options they typically provide, how to work with them and get the most bang for your buck, and tips to ensure you don’t get ripped off?
It is great to hear more about color. My sister only uses neutrals and says she is terrified to add even one non-neutral color. I am just the opposite, lol. Sometimes I need to reign it in. It might not be a model home, but at least my house is never boring! I have a thing for orange/aqua themes, muted turquoise with terracotta, rust and teal, coral and mint, etc. And always green in the details!
Hello there, I wanted to give you some ideas that would help you get more subscribers. 1) make your focus more on middle America. The major American’s never leave the country. 2) talk about paint colors using their “LVR” and the difference between using warm vs. cool colors. Also naming the paint colors and brand would help others a lot. 3) talk about budget friendly accessories. Give suggestions for high and lower price pieces because it’s hard for some to visualize what you are saying. 4) furniture fabric design. What works together and what doesn’t. 5) window coverings and fabric. So many people want to understand the difference in fabric and what it can do to a room/space. These are just suggestions so please don’t be offended. You clearly know a lot about design and color so this may help you become more relatable. I wish you all the best on your future videos.
Awesome content, you are so specific. I think about developing color schemes that flatter the homeowner. Like “Color Me Beautiful” in 3D. I love warmer environments but have a Clear Winter complexion with Olive undertones. No designers are talking about the people who live in the space as elements of the design. For example, the contrasting colors in your home flatter your coloring. (I love that for you!). I have read Frank Lloyd Wright would influence how the residents should dress so they would look good in his environments. Ha ha, how about designing color schemes to make the people look good? Thank you, Garrett.
Due to my art I utilize high contrast decorating. I also use gold and silver metals and brown toned wood. Really informative and succinct lesson on colour (hue, tint, tone &shade). And by the way - blue and white looks just as good on you as they do in your home. Love your content - I’m a huge fan. 👍❤️🇨🇦
You are such a joy to watch and learn from, you clearly found your niche and I’m thankful you share it with us. Look forward to your videos every week x
Absolutely loving your channel. Thank you for explaining all these design rules without bashing anyone’s personal taste - so refreshing. I wanted a very calm house a few years back and everything is black, white and grey with a touch of glam (thankfully no glitter!) but I am def ready for some colour change and warmer tones and your videos have been so inspiring! I used to have royal blue years ago and still love that look too! ❤️
Thank you s much Caroline! I'm a blue & white addict but I love a neutral too, you can have so much fun adding and layering warm tones and color into your home, best of luck!
My colours are green and gold (contrasted with black window sills and couch, and mostly white walls) and I just added ocre yellow and now I hear what you are saying here *pause for breath* and now I understand WHY my home is starting to make more sense! This colour scheme makes me feel like a hobbit and super cozy. Like I'm living in a hibiscus plant. Mmmmmmmmmm
You are amazing. You just 100% described my style and I only mentioned a few colors. You are going to be big when people start seeing your post and realize you are the most talented and educated influencer on YouTubr. I can wait to watch your channel take off and surpass all the others that just recommend products. You going places!
I use tons of color in my home. Anything large, walls, sofas, big tables, are in tints and tones of gray so I can go color bold with the smaller things like pillow covers, throws, and glass. I keep the colors seasonally cohesive, and change things around throughout the year. I love that you’re using the color wheel in this video, it’s such a wonderful tool for understanding color. As always, great video!
I just spent the night watching your videos ! Wow , We're all getting high quality and informative education, By far the best I've come across on this design / update journey I'm on ...Thank you thank you !
Listening to you is a pleasure. You end sentences with a down tone. I appreciate that as uptalk sentence endings drive me mad. The color types and what makes them is excellent information. Keep giving us good info we can apply. Thanks!
Thanks so much Linda Ann! I appreciate your comment. Please take a moment to support the channel if you haven’t already, and join our very valued subscriber family. 😊😊😊
Great video!! It's challenging living with about 6 different colors of wood in my small space. Floors are yellow oak, cupboards are maple, coffers look walnut, furniture is mahogany...it's a circus! But I'm painting the coffers white and am about to refinish my grandmother's gorgeous coffee table. Thank you so much for your workable advice, you're making a really positive difference in my surroundings.
I am painting every room in my house along with updating it. And I am using bold colors in every room. I am tying together with bright white trim. I know people will find that boring but it's the only thing tying all the rooms together and I love the colors. I cannot stand everything being all white or all beige etc. and I love high contrast.
Thank you! For this..this is how I love to decorate and I was beginning to think 🤔 I was nutty as a fruit cake...glad to know I have not lost my senses!!!Merci!!
Yes it is, and the Indian culture of course has amazingly beautiful interior design and decor styles. Thank you so much for watching, and supporting our channel by subscribing. We appreciate it.:)
Hi Garrett!! You are one of the most talented interior designers on RU-vid! I haven’t came across anyone on here that goes in depth about design as you do. Your professional and you take personal interest with every detail that you deliver to your audience! Garrett you have a talented eye and you make suggestions that we can comprehend and implement into our own individual spaces. My space is very monochromatic and I’ve always been scared to add color because I didn’t know how to select colors that would fit into my monochromatic design. However, this video was really helpful and eased my mind on what colors to bring into my space so that I can achieve contrast which is the look I personally prefer but didn’t know how to achieve until today! Thank you so much for your help!
Thank you! Support like this drives me to create more! I'm so glad you gained some confidence to bring color into your home! And thats what its all about, having the confidence to try something bold or different! Start small, maybe with florals or throw pillows and you can build from there!
I found this video to be very informative. My overalll color scheme is blue, white and some greens. I also love art glass, crystal and some metal arts. My furniture that is either all wood or partially contains wood, has a darker brown tone. I prefer chrome, copper or stainless for metal finishes/fixtures. I live in Florida, and my house get a lot of natural light throughout. I would say my home has a contemporary/traditional and somewhat timeless esthetic. It's a work in progress, like all homes are I would assume. Every one of your videos gives me insight and inspiration!
This was an amazing class......I say that because I feel like you are definitely teaching me.....I never ever knew about how colors are sorted out...tints, tones, ect. You blow me away with your knowledge...and how you teach us. And you look particulary classy today...brows are ON POINT!
👌🏼🏆Condensed crucial hints! 🖌️🎨🌈 I watched this vid 3 times as my whole house is being repainted shortly and i can't afford any mistakes! Couldn't find a designer to double check my colors, but i found you! I appreciate your detailed explanations because i can only remember rules that i truly understand and that make sense! 1000 thanks GarrettLeChic! 👌🏼 🏆
I love this video! I am not liking the all neutral palette on trend right now. I also hated the “all white kitchen” trend. My base throughout my home is white, black, and gold (luster, low shine) with one bold color in each room as follows: Dining room: deep green. Living room: taupe too keep it airy. Kitchen: chocolate brown (cabinets). Upstairs Loft: blue. Office: burnt 🍊.... Master Bedroom... undecided 🤷🏻♀️ ongoing project Thanks for the video!
Standing ovation here. One of my interior consultants, ASID from U. of Ga, class of 1955, taught me to stick with the colors in my living room rug. In another house it was the foyer wallpaper. For someone with a semi-trained eye, having a curated guide piece helps a lot.
Thank you . I learned this a number of years ago from my art teacher. I was living in Europe and she taught me so much about European furniture, art etc . You are an excellent teacher . Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I love love sapphire blue. I love your enthusiasm; I wish you would talk a bit slower. But it’s it’s passion for what you love. Thanks you
I know good design when I see it but can't always pinpoint what elements can come together when seeing it a store with so many surrounding likable choices. Your lessons avoid bringing home something and wasting time with returns that don't work in the room. I feel more confident in selecting things that are in my home that don't work to put elsewhere (or to send them to someone who's home would welcome them) and bringing home the right choices into the room that will work. A heartfelt thank you for such great content that you share!!
I watched this video a few times to remember all you've said. I enjoy learning about true design from you, even if our styles are mostly are not necessary the same.
I am new to your series and am already addicted. You are a very wise young man, and you should be proud of your accomplishments. Bravo! Barb, from Alberta, Canada
Thanks so much for the lovely comment Barb! My late father was from Canada🇨🇦. Welcome to the channel. It’s great to have you as part of our very valued subscriber family! Keep warm🔥It’s cold in the USA too. 😊😊😊🇨🇦❤️🇺🇸
As a fellow designer, this was- in my opinion- your best video! You really broke color down and simplified it! You just saved so many tragic nightmares that were about to occur in many homes! Thank you!!♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
I'm new to your videos , when I'm relaxing on the couch I watch about 6 every night to catch up on everything I've missed Such wonderful insight of how it's done If you come to Australia Adelaide I would love for you to come and visit I too have 4 bull terriers So a big huge compliment to you I never get sick of watching you it's late and I keep saying one more Love ♥ love I'm going to delete my others as some bore me to tears and I saw a make over from a classic beautiful home to a bold green and purple which I hated the original was classic and classy Keep up your wonderful work
My color scheme is very similar to yours, in that I love blue. But I like medium contrast, not high contrast. My favorite blue is light. I like sapphire as a pop against the light blue. My kitchen is white with a light blue backsplash and blue on the back walls of my glass-fronted top cabinets. We are building a ranch house, and want a bit more wood features also. I like beige or tan, and maybe touches of green, keeping to a nature theme. We are retiring, so we are going for a more relaxed vibe. I wish you could help me tie it all together! Thanks for your videos. They are helping me a lot.
Thanks for sharing! I would definitely recommend subscribing to the channel, and going to the channel and watching all the past videos as you can plus the new ones as they come out. I appreciate your support Ginger. 😊😊🐶🐶🐶
sincerely one of the best videos i've seen on color! i'm not sure how you popped up in my algorithm, but i'm glad you did! i've binged and subbed!!! plus you're totally adorable!!! x we moved from a mid-century home to a 100-year-old home and I let my hubs pick the colors. he. picked. grey. so the house is primarily grey and navy, with the loveliest warm honeyed oak that only comes with time. i want to add some *color* into the home, but I don't want to ruin the aesthetic of the grey and navy, because i do find them soothing and peaceful. your video has given me a long list of questions to ask my designer!!!
Welcome to the channel! It’s great to have you as part of our very valued subscriber family. I’m glad you are enjoying the videos. Much more to come. Happy New Year! 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks so much! Glad you found it helpful. Here is a link to a recent video regarding painting that I think you might like: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-05SsUltFals.html
Im obsessed with colour! I usually incorporate colour through fully painted walls keeping my furniture & flooring in neutral colours to keep things grounded. Love the video I rarely see anyone talk about using proper colour nower days.
I have just found you and I just heard you say that's black and white are not colors and I already love you! I can't stand that people call them colors!! 😜😂❤
I am obsessed with "Evergreen Fog" by Sherwin Williams .......it's actually elegant. My open concept flows into an art studio that is painted Evergreen Fog, with Bohemian White ceiling. I went 75% lighter in a hallway, and have green foliage in different spots. I did a "Concrete" wall with Henry 549 Feather Finish...Love:) So black/white/grey & espresso woods/leather sofa.....very Industrial/Mid-Century Modern with rattan to bring in those dang pine kitchen cabinets. Painted the bottom cabinets black and did a 3D Dogwood stencil in black on the upper doors. I'm an artist, on a Food Stamp budget so ........there is that:)
I re-did two bedrooms and closets for my two sons. Both wanted cool color minimalism. Both rooms look different even though the same wall colors, mirrored closet doors and carpeting. In one room, the full size bed looks smaller and in the other room the bed looks larger. While the same square feet, one room is more rectangular and the other is closer to square.
Love the explanation of different types of color as well as wood tones. Almost every time I watch one of your videos I think "Oh, that's where I went wrong".
Came across this video when deciding on paint colors for my new home and wow finally someone who broke down the lingo easily and now I’m excited! Thank you.
Great explaination of putting color together. I like warm browns with some off white and oranges. I like the two different kinds of metal, I currently have one I will work on that I live in the mountains so earth tones work well and are warm where whites and grey would make it cold.
Hi Garrett. I'm a new subscribers, and I'm so glad I found you. I enjoy your videos and have already learned so much in just a few days. You are so sweet and funny--I find you very entertaining as well!
Thanks so much😊Welcome to the channel Connie! It’s great to have you as part of our very valued subscriber family. I’m so glad you are enjoying the content. Much more to come!
You are a STAR ! As a designer of some years,I know natural talent when I see it! You are that person. Showing us with skill, education and confidence. Thank you.I have subscribed and forwarded the links to guide others to your finely crafted videos.
great video! i went all in on the 'duck-egg blue trend'......anyone else? i'm not eradicating it from my house, and getting some great advice from your channel Garrett, so thank you!! xx
Greetings from Canada! Garrett...I have just discovered you. I am in love. Thanks so much for your videos. I don't have time today, but I hope to watch a few tomorrow. I have a feeling I'm going to learn a lot.
Welcome to the channel Cath! It's great to have you as part of our very valued subscriber family. I hope you enjoy watching all our past videos, and the many to come. :)
Thank you again. I sometime watch your videos more than once ... very interesting. I am extremely reluctant in using colours, so afraid it might get too much ...
I have lots of windows and skylights in my home. I used BM Super White on walls and trim because I have very colorful large-scale artwork and medium tone wood floors.
I find your video so helpful ., I don’t use much color but I have been trying to add a little .. I like Carmel and green my house is basically grey black and white
I’m not sure what mine would be for my room. It’s different shades of whites, creams, wood, & pastel greens & pinks. & there are some patterns as well The woods are medium brown & blonde. The blonde has some medium brown in it. The metallics are gold & silver. & there’s not a lot of those colors I do worry sometimes that my room will be too busy. The challenge is that I have limitations because I still live with my parents
Love your videos, you have answered so many of my questions that kept me from redesigning. Since I love bright bold colors and my husband loves muted earth tones I'm going to be going for a feeling rather than a color. That being calm and relaxed. So probably his muted earth tones with a few splashes of muted color here and there for me.
Thank you Garrett, we’ve been testing purple paints in our living room and was nearly ready to chicken out and going for a “safe” option. Your video helped me feel more confident going forward with a bold choice, but also recognizing how to make the look cohesive without overwhelming the eye with too many different colors.
You are so adorable, I just love your enthusiasm, you give great advice, I'm in the design industry and I appreciate that you give useful advice that the average viewer can apply to their existing decor, keep up the great work.
