The way I described legion to my 40k friends is as such. The Clones=Space Marines in play style. The Empire=Imperial Guard but with better saves. The Rebel's=Tau. And the Droids as you said are the Nids.
Clones are absolutely the Marines, and CIS are more or less the Nids. However I think the empire is much more akin to the Tau in recent additions with rather middling gun line units that rely on buffs and some powerful special units. Rebels are a bit harder to pin down but I'd say maybe Genestealer Cult? Idk
This is so crazy to think about. The tyranids are my favorite faction in 40k. (Just started last year so new to wargaming) but as soon as I was introduced to legion I was drawn to the droid lol
I remember from "clone wars" series that the Federation never actually joined the Confederacy. Just the Viceroy from Episode 1 and his supporters with the organisation "officially" remaining on the side of the Republic.
@@Crizzly122 I think second sister would be better than ninth. Yeah, Kal could be cool, I imagine his little droid will be like Iden's little droid, but will have treat 1 capacity 2 or something instead of shielded. It would be nice to get some cheap budget Force users, around the cost of Iden. With the inquisitors, I think they should have Block instead of deflect cause it's definitely harder to redirect shots with the spinning blade, but maybe they also get agile 2 or nimble or something
@@elilieb2073 BD-1 is so small and not meant for combat I dont think he would be his own model, I imagined him being on Cal's back and making the sculpt look really nice
I hope Thrawn gets his model one day. Sure he has his destroyer in Armada, but Thrawn also has a fair amount of ground combat experience. Being such a popular character I'm sure he'll be used often.
There aren't any official models, but there are some great looking fan-made ones. I have one of him sitting on a throne I use as an objective. Rebellion/New Republic must capture Thrawn, the Empire must defend him
The Rebels boring to paint??? I collect all 4 factions and think the Rebels are by far the most interesting to paint. At least if you want to keep it close to the movies etc. Empire, Republic and CIS all have so many monochromatic color schemes. White troopers, more white troopers, beige droids... But with the Rebels you can go crazy and they still fit into that Star Wars aesthetic. Good video otherwise, but I couldn't disagree more in that specific point.
@@sheepystopmotion7713 Yea, I painted my Phase 2 clones in different color shemes according to different Batallions. Nevertheless I think the Rebels are the ones you can go the craziest with, while still sticking to the lore. An colorful ATST may look cool, but it won't give you the same Star Wars feeling like a classic grey one. For the Rebel Landspeeder it doesn't matter how crazy you paint it, it will always look fitting.
I collect mainly Separatists, and they are in no way “monochromatic.” B1s, B2s, Tactical Droids, Commando Droids… there’s so many cool looking models that all have different paint schemes
Leaving Warhammer for legion due to balance. I'm nota star wars fan so I'm new to all the lore and it's pretty good so far. Absolutely love how movement and list building works on legion compared to 40k. My partner is getting into empire and I'm going with republic, really hype to get games going once we have the money to start our armies
@@HollywoodWargaming I don't even get why that's in the battlefield it's like a police dropship. I mean for the Empire it makes sense but I don't get why for the clone wars
I was just thinking about how much I would love a third party of hutts. Thinking about the possibility of tusken raiders as a corp, vehicle focus, maybe some new keyword involving hutts and really messing with the enemy activations or disrupting their plans. I get you said this 5 months ago, so know even today people are still thinking about it!
I think this is the first time I watched a video of yours and really enjoyed it. Great job on the breakdown of SWL factions. I subscribed and plan to check out your other videos.
Technically, the separatist alliance and the trade federation are not the same thing. The trade federation were more of a sub-faction of the separatists.
I play Empire and Rebels and even this early into the games life (40K is 40 years old) there is already enough diversity in units and ability’s and cards that I feel the different factions play significantly different. And that’s only gonna expand as we go along.
thanks for the super concise video! Really hoping you'll return to the channel, I just got into legion (with a shadow collective box) and I'm crossing fingers you'll provide more content. =)
You say the Stormtrooper model looks bad and weird poses? Im a Separatist player to the heart but I feel the Stormtrooper models are beautifully portrayed. The lumbering armor won’t allow them to take dynamic poses and the detail is beautiful along with the shapes of the scultps. Also for those of you who want to field our beloved droids, despite what he says, some heroes do have synergies with the troops and all other units such as Count Dooku. Certain combinations of units and leaders can be devastating to your opponent. Such as Count Dooku with Magna Guards. That is a literal nuke headed towards the enemy army. Or swarms of troops with Dooku and an AAT Tank. Massive hitters that blow away your enemies army while your loyal troops mop up the mess.
When me and my closest gamer group of 4 decided to dive into the game, we rolled off on which army each of us were going to play. I had to think of what I was going to do with each faction and if I got Rebels I knew I was going to do Sullust.
Trade federation isn’t the cis neither is the Techno Union or banking clan. TF was apart of the CIS like the the countries in the UN. They contributed resources, since they were apart of the confederacy. If the trade federation joined the republic you’d still have a CIS. But great video!
For the most part you're going to be using Named heroes. Each faction does have generic officer options like the Tactical Droid in CIS. I think they're primarily used as a minimum investment for the command requirement so more points can be spent elsewhere in the list.
I think the fact that most of their biggest heroes came out with the initial waves hurt them. Rules were a lot more vanilla back then and FFG really taxed for the limited keywords that were around back then.
@@HollywoodWargaming I had high hopes for what some new releases would do for the faction, but aside from Sabine we haven't had much that seriously shifted the meta. Tauntauns we're good, but fleeting.
STOP RIGHT THERE: yes, leia, commander Luke, Chewbacca, and a couple others have boring and weak command cards. But here’s the thing: lando, cassian, and Jyn have some of the best and most fun command cards in the game. Every army I have has one of those. Sometimes more. Edit: Tauns are THE BEST UNIT IN THE GAME. You can not change my mind. Any lackluster support for the rebels is made up by those two lizards
It’s a genuinely good game. There’s a lot of crap out there that gets by on being Star Wars brand skin alone but Legion isn’t one of them. Very balanced, intuitive, and engaging gameplay. Also easy to collect compared to most other wargames
