We have used the Apologia Elementary series for primary school and then the children choose themselves after about age 13. I love Apologia, especially the notebooks and experiments ❤

We have used TGATB science units, I didnt think there was enough there, we were blasting through an entire week of lessons in one day and I was having to supplement quite a bit to beef it up. We ended up going back to Sonlight and using their updated elementary-level science units and have really enjoyed them. I was considering Apologia and honestly, I have one of their science units on my shelf as a back up for next year simply because I have heard such great things about that science.

We love and use apologia!! If you decided to go that route I highly suggest purchasing the experiment kits that go with each one from Nature's Workshop Plus!. I have a 4th and 6th grader and have found easily do the same one together even w that age difference. I only purchase 1 kit as I have found you get extra supplies and both kids work together doing the experiments. I purchased the junior notebook for my 4th grader and normal one for my 6th grader. We actually do 2 of these a year as each one is 14 lessons. On Fridays (my day off work) we do 1 entire lesson. It has been manageable taking about 1-1.5 hours. Thank you for sharing all the different curriculum out there and happy planning!!

Science and History are so tough for me to decide. I have never heard of the new Science Chucks. We tried Elemental Science - the classic series. I don't remember which specific one. And at first I loved it but then it got to be winter time here (I live in Michigan) and it felt like a lot of the projects just wouldn't work. Plus, even though I got the science kit I felt we still had to find quite a few things.... im not someone that has a lot of random stuff on hand.

We are using Memoria Press. I feel like a lot of people haven’t heard of them or brush them off because they’re so classical. I love their programs.

I’m ❤loving❤ the new TGATB science units! Open and go, easy to teach, keeps the kids (and me) engaged! 10/10 would recommend. I also like Gather Round, but it’s more planning for me and I want to try TGATB only for next year. I haven’t tried any other sciences. I heard Noeo is good too

I honestly think you would love Science Shepherd. It's video based, and the kids have corresponding workbooks at their own levels. The videos are short. The elementary Science is a general introductory science that covers a variety of topic, but it's one course in one book. And low parent involvement.

We have never sat down and did science it just happened through tv shows, sci show kids on youtube or talking about it when they have a question. Were definitely doing something different for our school year, but havent nailed it down yet. We walk on and off at the zoo or trail at a park, but we decided were gonna do that more often, so we observe nature that way.

Good video with lots of options! I tried Heaven and Earth for Beginning from Master Books. It's good but did not have enough "meat" for my son. He kept asking questions and I would go on Google and research. Just didn't satisfy us. I don't know anything about the Master Books science you have in this video though. We love Apologia! We are almost finished with their astronomy book. We tried some of the experiments in the book and they never worked out. I think we tried at least five labs and they all failed so we quit doing the hands on experiments. I just read the lesson. It was disappointing that the experiments not to work. However, we LOVE their textbooks. I've been looking at the earth science book. I just purchased Apologia Words in Motion New Testament book for Bible. I ended up buying BJU science and a few unit studies from the Good and Beautiful. Both curriculums are new to us! Good luck in deciding! That will be a hard decision. I let my son pick sometimes. I give him three science curriculums that I like and wouldn't mind teaching then I let him have the final pick. He is six. Pick your top 3 that you do not mind teaching (if you have to teach) and then let your kids decide.

For middle school/high school we are looking at BJU (theirs does look similar to apologia but I only knew of their full year on one subject which I did NOT want) or God's Design Series by Master books/Answers in Genesis, if you want to add your youngers in with that series they also have beginner workbooks for the same series for younger grades.

Choosing science is so hard for me! This year our science is TGATB. I feel like their units are very hit or miss. Geology was a total dud for us and I considered tossing the rest because we didn't like it that much but I'm glad I kept going because Reptiles, Amphibians and Fish has been great so far! We're also currently using Gather Round Chemistry (my daughter's topic of choice) and I'm really not liking it. I liked it at first but the more we do I realize its just not a great fit as an "all ages" curriculum. They have colored markers showing what to read for each grade level and seeing as my daughter is in the Early Reader stage I only read the Yellow.....well the yellow doesn't cover the entire topic so we're left not knowing most of the info for the lesson? 😅 I mean I could read the whole thing but holy moly its A LOT of reading. I've decided were going to use Noeo Science next year. Hoping its a better fit for us!

I just purchased Geology and Reptiles, Amphibians, and Fish from TGAB. My first time purchasing their unit studies. What didn't you like about Geology?
@reneej7584
@reneej7584 Год назад
@@kaylacrittenden7760 I just found it pretty dry. Note that I bought the units Before they updated most of them so ours was the k-8th versions and I just don't feel like the wording throughout the lessons was geared towards younger children. A lot went way over my first graders head. Also, most of the activities were very pointless and unsatisfying. For an example one lesson on minerals said to have ready a sample of salt and a sample of salt mixed with dirt- I was intrigued as to what the activity was going to be! Started doing the lesson and the whole thing was literally showing the kids the two salt samples and asking them what salt they would use on their food. That's it. I remember sitting there stunned over the fact that I just went out digging for dirt and that's all we did with it 😂 Needless to say I read ahead every lesson after that to see if the activity was even worth doing before running around gathering materials. Who knows though...maybe you all will love that unit! It just wasn't it for us.
@kaylacrittenden7760
@kaylacrittenden7760 Год назад
@@reneej7584 ugh, The units arrive today. I ordered Geology, marine biology, reptiles, ambianians, and fish, and the dinosaur unit. Guess I will look at it and see what I think. Definitely will read the lessons and check out the hands-on stuff. My son asks a lot of questions so I'm concerned the material will not cover enough. I ordered BJU science as a back up. I may rotate BJU and TGAB: do a unit study of TGAB then do a chapter in BJU. Or if we like BJU I will just do that. Guess I will just have to see what works for us. Thank you! What science did you end up picking?
@reneej7584
@reneej7584 Год назад
@@kaylacrittenden7760 We're still using TGATB for the remainder of this year. We've gone through A LOT of trial and error this year and I've had to replace tons of curriculum that wasn't working for my daughter. When it came to science I just couldn't afford to replace that curriculum as well. I thought it over for days but ultimately decided to give the Reptiles, Amphibian and Fish unit a try before spending more money. We are actually quite enjoying this one. Keep in mind that I always add tons of extra things to the lessons they provide (if I didn't do that with Geology it would have been even worse 🥴) So their one lesson on snakes I made it last two or three lessons just by adding in more books, free TPT worksheets, arts and crafts, etc. We just completed their frog lessons and I stretched it with all of what I mentioned plus found a fairly inexpensive synthetic frog dissection kit at Walmart! I've decided to go with Noeo Science for this upcoming year. Fingers crossed its more enjoyable for us! 🤞

We are trying out Berean Builders science this coming year. It’s kind of a spin-off of Apologia. You’ll have to look into the drama behind that 😅🫣 If BB doesn’t work, I’m planning to shell out the big bucks for Sonlight or BJU. We’ve had a hard time finding the right fit for science too.

Ooooo I’ll have to get into that drama 👀 I was really look and BJU but you are right lots of $$$ might save that for the high school years
