I know this isn't a fascinating subject, but this is a massively helpful video. At least right now, most LED GU10 bulbs are special orders around here, and the prices range pretty wildly. It's good to make informed purchases.

Great video. Thorough and direct; it was a great help when shopping for LEDs and very informative of the color output, brightness, and beam angle - things most people won't think of until the lights are installed. Thank you.

Does anyone know of a model of GU10 LED bulb that casts any of its light out to the side/back in addition to spot? I have a few IKEA ceiling fixtures that have the GU10s inside an opaque white cylinder. The IKEA halogen GU10s cast a bit of light back through their glass stems, illuminating the frosted glass cylinders. With all the LED GU10s I've found so far, the spot light from the LEDs are fine, but the glass cylinder basically looks the same way that it appears with a burned out halogen, ie dark. I realize the LEDs generally cast unidirectional light vs. the omnidirectional light from a filament, but I would think you could design the hood in such a way that it reflected a tiny bit of the light back to the sides. But so far, I've only found the standard spot variety.

Excellent video, but i have a question, I am looking to replace my 50w GU10's in 2 fixtures, however how they are designed, I need that bit of light that comes from the sides of a halogen, instead of it all coming from the face. Does anyone make such an LED?

Which one of these bulbs would give out the best pin spot beam - we're looking to illuminate a mirror ball in a small pub/bar and only want to illuminate the ball...not the whole room? The bulb is to fit into a par can 16 - we've checked the par can 36 (which we are told is the correct par can for this job) but this light fitting would be too big for the pub/bar - any advice on this please?

It seems then that LEDs are not very good at space lighting if they put out more of a spot light?

The 60watt replacements are perfectly sized and come with a diffuser or are leds on a stick inside the bulb itself, but halogen bulbs are tiny so they can't incorporate those features
