I think people misunderstand what I find to be the true nature of trust. People foolishly misplace their trust in their partners when they "trust" their partner to act in accordance with their spouse's nature. That's a great way to mismanage one's expectations. One of my earliest philosophies has served me well throughout my life. I simply trust people to be who they are. If someone's flaky, i trust them to be flaky. If someone is impulsive, i trust them to act impulsively. My only expectation of anyone is to act in accordance with their nature. If i don't know their nature then i don't need to place any trust in them, and if my trust is actually betrayed by anyone, I can only blame myself.
