Just to add a little comments, which you may already have thought about. Adding good window tint, like 3M, will not only cut out most of the UV, heat but it also add strength to the glass from being shattered from impact, accidental or intentional. Also, since it is your touring home/studio, it best to keep the windows close/shut most of the time, to keep out the rain, dust, insects etc., because it is a big space with lots of equipment inside. Lastly, beware of rats, they love to chew on cables..in my line of IT work, I have seen some network cables being chewed to pieces, include one time, when I stopped to help a lady whose car had stalled, a big rat jumped out when we opened the bonnet/hood of her car...What a shock but both of us ended up laughing. (Like the car engine had stopped working because her rodent engineer just jumped ship!!) Hahaha. Jayoe. Cheers.
The window can be a source of frustration. Those long van walls vibrate on dirt roads. The vibration can break down inflexible sealant or caulking. With silicone the window can add rigidity. Iliked the comment about window film..3m sells 4 mil security film that literally makes the glass shatter proof. It can be tricky to install. Good luck.
We bought a side door window. When the guys installed it they didn’t realize that the visual part of the window was past the slide part of the window. So, how hard is it to take the window off and cut the rest of the panel and reinstall window?
Hmmm. Not sure what you mean. That being said, I had my windows vandalized a few times and had to remove them. Get a long wire cutter. You need to get a small hole thru the seal and and pass an abrasive wire thru the hole then slowly work together and work your way around the window taking care not to scratch the van body. It’s not super easy or clean(if the sealant is still soft)… but it’s doable. Very helpful video. So you bought a Ford Transit cargo van and had the aftermarket windows installed. This is of interest to me because I'm interested in a Transit cargo van to use part-time as a camper van. I don't want to pay the high prices for a stock camper van with beds/fridge/stove etc. because the costs are so high, in some cases pushing $200k. Did you also install those amenities after having the windows installed? One of my concerns is that most cargo vans only come with two seats. I would need at least one or two additional seats and wonder if installing them would be a big job.
i think installing extra seats is not such a hard job... just have to bolt them to the floor properly. Yea... installing the windows myself gave me freedom to choose what windows i wanted.. and where.... i am glad i did it that way. And fi you want a cheap(er) DIY solution i would recommend a Adventure Wagon kit for your interior.. and a coupld bunk windows..
What is the issue with leaving CR Laurence windows open when driving? I just installed a 10 x 33 inch bunk window by CRL, it didn't occur to me that I shouldn't leave it open on the highway, can you explain the problem please? Thank you for anything further you care to share.
