Choosing and oil painting thinner can be confusing. With so many options how is a beginner artist to know which materials to thin oil paint with? In today's free video I'll review four different thinner solvents you can use to thin out your oil paints and clean your oil painting brushes.
I'll be revealing my favorite way to thin your oil paints and bringing up the topic of safety. A little bit of knowledge will save you money and keep your painting studio safe.

Don't forget to place a proper lid on that steel can. Cut the oxygen out and cut the fire out before it starts!

How about lacquer thinner for oil based paint

I wouldn't lacquer thinner. It's odor is horrendous. Long term exposure is probably not good. All the varieties given here are readily available and very affordable.

You should use like for like. Oil based paints generally have mineral spirits as their solvent base. Therefore, you should thin the paint or clean the brushes you use with the same solvent.

I use a little bit of turpertine to clean my spray gun and it left a smell in my car. I rarther just use it to clean my gun not put in the paint. Lacquer thinner also smell, I use odorless mineral spirits and it work fine. I personally use the oil thinner in AutoZone it's call Paint Thinner(automotive) but is not the Home Depot thinner.
