Great comparison! I just ordered the Momentum 4, but was considering the PX7 S2 for a long time. The AirPods Max were out immediately because I use macOS, but also Android, and because of the hefty price, lousy battery life and the "bag". I enjoyed both the Momentum 4 and the PX7 S2 sound for different reasons. I think they are on par, with different strengths and weaknesses. In my opinion, the M4 has cleaner and deeper bass, the PX7 S2 has a more tidy and neutral midrange. Treble, detail and soundstage seemed on par. I really like the design and comfort of the PX7 S2, but the M4 also fit nicely on my head and I can live with the plain design. I couldn't really compare their ANC, but then there are the call features and quality that I know from my current PXC 550 and don't want to miss. Ultimately, it came down to price when the M4 went on sale below 300€ in Germany while the PX7 S2 was still almost 400€.
many people say the momentum 4 are better then px7 s2. Is that true in your opinion. I wish to get the px7 s2 as they look better but i rather take sound quality over looks all day
@@Anonymous-wt4lx I think in terms of sound they are really on par, just tuned slightly differently. You can't go wrong with either! If you're after sound first and looks second, but can get along with mediocre ANC, battery life and call quality, you should also consider the Momentum 3 which is cheaper than the other two, has amazing build quality and design (if you like it) and sounds equally awesome.
@@Anonymous-wt4lx Overall clarity, detail, soundstage and balance of bass, mids and treble is similar. The differences, to my ear, are: - The M4 has more sub bass, the PX7 S2 features mid bass more - The bass seems to be tighter and faster on the M4, sometimes I could hear some bleeding into the mids on the PX7 S2. This did never happen on the M4 - The M4 have slightly pushed mids which bring vocals, pianos and electric guitars more to the front. But sometimes that could result in a slight resonance, not really a peak, but still a bit colored in direct comparison to the PX7 S2 (mids are similar to the Momentum 3 and the PXC 550, if you ever tried those) - The PX7 S2 are pretty neutral and flat in the mids. Maybe even a little recessed, but not as much as e. g. the AirPods Max. I couldn't hear any peaks or dips, everything sounded very natural and pleasant - The treble is very similar to my ear, I didn't hear a noticeable difference there. Some people seem to hear a bit more detail on the PX7 S2, but I'm not sure if this is really the case

Great review. However, I would disagree that the air pods max has better mic than momentum 4’s they actually sounded quite close and I bet quality will decrease when air pod max battery goes down. Furthermore, the voice was distorted on the air pods max and the voice quality on the momentum 4’s were closest compared to in studio mic.
I own the sennheisers, and at first I had intended on getting the Sony xm4s until they caught my eye. I recognized the sennheiser name and did a bit of research and seen quite a few ppl complimenting the sound, and I agree the sound is great. I have $2000 worth of stereo equipment in my car, but I still think these headphones sound just as good if not better! They're very impressive especially if you love bass. The bass is phenomenal in these and some of the cleanest I've ever heard. I highly recommend them.
Airpod Max: Great Noise Cancellation, Music is not very loud, Bass is not very deep, I had issues with popping and crackling randomly, ended up returning them. Momentum 4: Right out the box I was shocked at how underwhelming these sound. The bass was not strong, Noise cancellation was okay, The volume doesn't go really loud, ended up returning those as well. The PX7: Immediately impressed. Crisp clear highs, deep bass, and loud. The design was beautiful, the fit is comfortable. They feel Premium! Once I upped the treble and bass just a tad bit in the equalizer, these headphones blew me away. Like Wow!! Noise cancellation is okay, not great but I'll settle for that cause the sound is amazing. The PX7 was the clear winner for me.
Like every single detailed review shows the Momentum 4's having the best in class bass response and clarity, especially in the sub-bass range... Pretty confident that you enjoy the overboosted bass profiles common in cheaper headphone that muffles the mids and highs.
Sennheisers sounded noticeably better than the Air Pod Maxs to me…but I ended up returning for the build quality difference and the connection issues I had with the momentum 4s. I went with the Air Pods
@@danf6958 yes, but I do still miss the clearer and more detailed sound I heard on the Sennheisers. i still think about the sennheisers when I hear certain songs on the air pods and remember it sounding better on the other headphones lol. I love the build quality and connection ease of the air pod pros. I also much more prefer the button usage on the air pod pros versus the touch sensitive controls on the sennheisers. The noise canceling is fine.

@@danf6958 dang that’s a bummer! They did not break but they are light and shallow feeling. This is great because it makes them light, but they feel a bit flimsy. Compared to the air pods they feel noticeably more fragile
Mic check on M4s was the best btw. I've owned many headpnones including XM5's, and I assure you dont make the mistake of buying others, the M4s are brilliant when it comes to sound quality. Regardless of what any reviewers say the M4s price to sound ratio is the best you'll ever get.
Sonji u can disable touch controls on M4 via the Sennheiser application so no issues on this German designed headphone that is so much better than Apple twice as expensive and as 2x weight of M4 😊

Thanks for the support mate. For listening to dance music or just Bass heavy songs in general I would recommend the Momentum 4. They are surprisingly very bass heavy. Not as tight as they used to be on the M3 but still fantastic. The PX7 S2 are more analytical. So they might not come as very vibrant as the intention here was to keep the sound as neutral as possible. If you are into music production, then I would recommend the PX7 S2.
I think I’m gonna buy either then momentum 4’s or the bowers and Wilkins before I buy the AirPods Max as a guy who owns an iPhone 14 pro, Apple Watch series 8, AirPods Pro 2nd gen, iPad Pro and other smaller apple devices and cables you buy separately, if only the sound quality was better richer and louder on the AirPods Max I would buy them, sucks tho.
I don’t know if it was anc or something different but AirPods Max were very fatiguing after half hour of listening for me so sold them. I didn’t want to wait anymore for px8 so it was between px7 s2 and m4. After extensive listening I chose m4.
How much does the bass improve/increase on the px7 s2 when you increase the bass slider In the eq? Any chance it can get close to the momentum 3s default bass quality and quantity. I listened to the momentum 4 and for EDM the momentum 3 sound much better in that the bass is tighter and punchier. The 4 seems to have more emphasis in the low sub 60hz bass and its sloppy and boomy in comparison. I don't know if it's just my imagination but not many people are mentioning this difference.
the PX7 S2 is not a bass forward headphone and thus even if you increase the bass slider to the max you will not get close to the default bass of the Momentum 4. And between the Momentum 3 and 4 I actually liked the sound of the 4 more. I agree that its more boomy but did not necessarily feel that it was sloppy. But this could depend on streaming quality, codecs etc. I can recommend the PX7 S2 if you are looking for tighter and Accuracy in bass range, however you might not enjoy them too much for EDMs though
Ok… I just ordered a new B&W Px7 S2 for $229 from Costco (same price as new Sony XM4). They will arrive early in Jan. ‘24. SH M4 would cost an additional $50). For me… I do travel on a long 8 hr. international flight every 18 months on average… so noise cancellation is a factor - but not major. For me… sound is the primary criteria. So… as the Apple AirPod Max is completely out of budget… so… … which of the following offers the best VALUE for the money? Sony XM4 ($229 New) B&W Px7 S2 ($229 New) Sennheiser M4 ($279 New)
The amount of problems im reading about the momentum 4 is terrifying, every where in reddit you find threads of problems with connection, sound problems and app problems... Of course all reviews say its really good and not a single mention of these problems... They are all paid promotions, returned mine without even opening the box
I wish my video was a paid promotion. 😂 But in all seriousness, I have not run into any such problems to report. Plus I also have Sennheiser's warranty. So I am hoping to be covered by them for the next 2 years atleast
H95s are too pricey for what they are. I think the Momentum 4 is a better all rounder headphone. It works well with genres of music, has better ANC than the rest and industry leading battery life
If you haven't bought anything yet, and you're ok spending as much money as the H95 costs, then you should amend your list a bit. Both the Bowers & Wilkins PX8 and the Focal Bathys are superior to the Momentum 4 and the PX7 S2, and better and more worthy of their high prices than the H95. I ended up going with the PX8 007 Edition and am completely satisfied. If you enjoy high fidelity sound and ultra premium materials, they are worth every penny.
Nice video have you ever tried Yamaha e700a or L700a. I have e700a I think they sound better then AirPod max and bower and Wilkins px carbon edition and Sony xmw4 you should check them out
Does the Momentum 4 headphones have a lot of bass or are they more balanced like the SONY and BOSE headphones at it’s price range? I heard people say that the Momentum headphones are bass heavy.
I wouldn't call the Sony's balanced, if anything they're even more bass heavy than the Momentum's. As a general rule the Momentum line-up tend to be a bit 'warmer' or livelier sounding with the PXC line-up from Sennheiser being more neutral/balanced sounding. I have access to or own PXC550/Momentum 2/3 and Sony XM3/XM4. Hope this helps :)
@@wildchilde69 thanks for the information. And yes, I have noticed that SONY headphones tend to be more bass heavy than a lot of the headphones in it’s price range, and it can sound muddy. I honestly think BOSE headphones sound more balanced than the SONY headphones at the same price range.
Sound quality in general is a lot better on the Momentum compared to Sony and Bose in my opinion. A lot more detail and soundstage! I think the WH-1000XM5 sound "nice" for most music, but always too warm for my taste. The bass bleeds into the lower mids and can't really be cleaned up. You can tilt the sound so it's not as warm, but you won't get to a really clear sound. Bose is more balanced between bass, mids and treble, but can sound harsh and can't provide a big amount of bass. The Momentum 4 go deep into the sub bass, but the upper bass never bleeds into the lower mids. The default amount of bass punch might be between the Sony and Bose, but hard to compare because it's tuned differently (Sony pushes upper bass more, the M4 have pushed sub bass). The mids are slightly forward, but clean and never harsh. Treble and detail is on a whole other level on the M4! I currently have the PXC 550 and compared them to the M4 (which I just ordered, will have a more critical comparison once they arrive). And the M4 sound very similar to the PXC 550 with their sound setting in Director mode: Boost set to Rhumble, Spacial off, Reverb off, and DLC on. Just cleaner, more refined, and they can go louder.

In my opinion the M3 has much better bass quality compared to the M4. The m3 is tight, punchy, clean and articulate. The m4 is boomy and emphasises the really low sub bass. Lacks the same upper bass punch.
Yeah i do agree on the bass comment there. The M4s are more boomy and louder which takes way the accuracy a little bit. However if you want accuracy then the PX7 S2 will be better than the M3 or M4s
When your turn on spatial audio with airpods max, do you lost bass in the sound? Spatial audio is with apple music app, but do you have spatial audio with all songs or just certain type of songs? Thanks everyone for the answer
It does not degrade audio performance but you might feel a little different than usual. When one of the ear is facing away from the streaming device it recieves less audio than the ear that is facing the streaming device. This is only because apple is trying to give you the feeling of listening music from a floor speaker. This will work with all apps from your iOS device. hope tis helps
I've always loved Sennheiser headphones and I've heard both the Airpod Max and B&W S2 - both are _great_ sounding! The Airpod Max' fit on the ear (flatter and less bulky looking than both of the other headphones) makes the main difference for me. The lack of a power off button is stupid. FYI, if you aren't exclusive to the Apple ecosystem, they'll be limits, such as no play/pause sensor and lots of methods used to prevent you from using third party electronic hardware to connect to the Airpods Max - despite not including a cable or plug. This is very greedy on Apple's part. 👨🍼
I would still say that the Meze’s are more audio focused, and would somewhat be affected by the DAC your using. If you want more hifi headphones, meze all the way
😅I could never. I have sony xb900, and it sounds a little bit like a xm4, and everyone said the xm4 sounds almost same as xm5, so that means that the xm5 is an xb900 with an improved price to make sony's boss richer🤑. Good luck with your xm5 😂
