As a Hamilton fan (oof) when coming out as nb and picking my name I've been considering Theo because one of my fave Hamilton songs is 'dear, Theodosia'
I didn't ask my parents what name they wanted for me when they knew I was trans, I had asked them 6 years previous to me coming out (I came out aged 12) and the name they wanted was Diezel and I loved it so I remembered it for years and shorten it at school to Daz. My parents aren't accepting but as my schools first out trans student they are taking it very well. Diezel is a Scottish name and I'm half Irish and half ??? and Irish and Scottish are quite similar in terms of names, language and origin so it seems right for me and I've been going by Daz for about 3 years now.
I chose Virgil after watching Thomas Sanders and fell in love with the name. The meaning is vigilant/protective, and I chose the last name Ames because it means friend. Basically, Protective Friend.
@AN-ou6qu you dont have to. some people have shitty parents they'd rather not associate with anymore so to finally feel completely free they change their last name.
I chose James because this I named a comfort character James a bunch of years ago and basically wrote him as an idealized version of myself, so I decided to pursue being the happier me by naming myself James.
i got my first name from idris elba (it just stood out to me, and it means "strong warrior leader man" and that's cool as fuck). my middle name's nathan, tbh it just sounds cool and fits w my first name. and completely unintentionally my initials are ink, and visual art is a huge part of my life so it all works out :)
I have never told anyone in real life the name I have chosen for myself (Eli), but I still have a story of how I came to pick that name. Initially I wanted a name that started with the same letter as my birth name (which you can see as my account name, I'm too terrified to change it), and I too wanted a space/astronomy themed name. After a while I decided on Castor, which is one of the brightest stars in the night sky and just seemed like a really cool masc leaning gender neustral name. However after a bit I felt that it was a bit too strange, and I wasn't too sure the best way to pronounce it in an Australian accent. Then I moved on to finding a name that was similar to my birth middle name (Ellen), and while perusing baby name websites, came across Eli. It wasn't a space themed name, but I really connected with it. I'm not sure whether I ever want other people calling me that name, or just use it for myself. I probably have to come out first ahaha Awesome vid Ashton. Also, do people ever shorten your name to Ash? Or do you prefer people to say Ashton?
@@rat592 It is now 4 years old so i'm telling my story simple as it is Now the person i have to thank is a green owl........ it's duolingo i was studying and "Emiko" came up i liked it. ..i'm not Japanese and i get that but i'm gonna be living in Japan so i don't mind it but i can understand why people find it troublesome! I got myself a family name too since my real one doesn't work in japanese it doesn't even work in english so my name is Tachibana Emiko
This is amazing. I wish I would've seen a video like this one when I was changing my name. This is probably gonna be a really helpful video for other people. Thank you for making this video ❤️
I'm a trans male and I have been going by Zephyr for about half a year now and nobody seems to get used to it thus far, but the name actually means a good amount to me, so yeah, moral of the story, naming yourself something weird is perfectly fine, even though I get critisized by classmates occasionally for it
On the last day of Elem. School a while back, I was with my friends at a Sweet Frog (frozen yogurt place, you may have heard of it). One of my friends came with his family, and I saw his mom, baby sister, and his brother, who looked about 13. I asked, "Is that your brother?" He said, "yeah he's trans," and then quickly said, "gotta go," and he seemed very embarrassed. I haven't seen him since, but some of my other friends text him, yet I haven't told them what he said. I wish I could tell him that he shouldn't feel embarrassed and that I appreciate the LGBTQ community. I want everyone to know that people out there care for them even if it doesn't seem like it.
@@shreddedburger oh, I get that. I picked out a weird name for myself and haven't really told anyone I know about it yet. It's a lot easier to tell strangers when they didn't know you before. I spose you gotta remember that even though you don't want to burden them, they shouldn't be prioritizing their own comfort over your identity and your needs. Hope you'll be able to find a name that'll suit you!
Hopefully this can help 1. Take your time. Play around with different names or variations of a name or go back to previous ones until you find one that suits you. You'll need to be patient since not all the time you can find a perfect name quickly. Don't beat yourself up about it take your time because this is your naming journey so really you're just researching and playing with names until you find something that fits. You're never ever a burden. This is about a name that is to help you feel comfortable not a name to make other people comfortable about you. You really are allowed to March to the beat of your own drum since this is about you,
I spent like, a year on baby naming websites, adding to a list of potential ones and narrowing it down. I ended up choosing Kestrel because it isn’t really gendered one way or another, the first site I saw it on said masculine then another said feminine. It’s a type of bird, a small bird of prey, and I really like the way it sounds, my friends call me Kes, my little siblings call me Kessy or they try to say Kestrel, but their four and five so pronunciation is not their strong suit. There were names on the list, even in the top five that were there because they had the same first initial or the name my parents were going to give me, but none of those really fit and they were only really there because I thought other people would find it easier to come to terms with if they were similar, which isn’t necessarily the best way to choose a name.
My biggest thing about changing my name is that I really like my name and it means a lot to me because of the journey I took with it, but it isn't neutral enough for me :( I'm tempted to ask my parents if they could come up with a new name but I feel like it might be too much for my mom specifically (she struggles more with my identity)
My birth name is Lauren, and I’ve been thinking about the name Ashton (it’s been a few months) because I’m a non-binary person and my parents were gonna call me Finn. Any suggestions, idk I think that maybe if I change it by a lot then (Lauren to Ashton) people wouldn’t use it
If you like the name Finn, I think it could totally be gender neutral! And don’t worry too much about your name being super different from your birth name. My birth name is nothing at all like Ashton but I don’t think it impacted people switching over.
Ashton or Fin seem fine. Don't worry if it's to different from your birth name. At the end of the day it's your name and whatever name you feel suits you best will work.
Here are some gender neutral names ❤️ Kai Avery Alex Quinn Cory Ollie Taylor Kelly Kennedy Dakota Finn Rain Forest Gray Harper Piper Indigo Jaylyn Jordan Bently Oakley Maple Peyton Zen I really hoped some of you trans people,non-binary people. Etc. ❤️❤️❤️
OMG- i asked my parents what they'd name me if i were born male awhile back and they said "Hamish" i- NO JUST NO not my cup of tea, no offense to any Hamish out there not for me i shall be looking elsewhere
Fun Fact: My old name, Ella, means "light" and "popularity" and "fairy princess." Actually, like, really. It also means she in a bunch of languages but in German it means all and other. So I chose an"other" name. Here we are now, nonbinary demiboy. Also my new name is Lance (first name that I chose), Calvin (Middle name that I chose), Bobby (middle name parents chose.)
My new name that's I've chosen for myself is Xander. My friends agree I look like a Xander and I wanted to be unique. Haven't told my mum or my bro but ya know.
Fun fact: While compiling my names list, Ashton made it to the "top five" before I settled on the name I chose. I used the name Ashton for a character, and I loved him. I know this video is old af, but sue me for making a fun fact, I think fun facts are awesome. And, I could have been Ashton 2.0, but that title is too good for me, thank you very much.
Chasie Dady-why don't we, Logan fandoms it’s quite a gender neutral name. How I chose mine was how i felt when I used it and how I felt so maybe try that?
@@gachaheatpolice1107 hi. If you want to come out (whether that is to family, friends, teachers, anyone) and you feel that you would be accepted, go for it! I personally think it's good to come out when you are younger as it gives you time to settle into your newfound identity as you grow, plus taking things like puberty blockers (if they are available to you, and safe to use) might stop any stronger dysphoria from any very typically female/male (I don't know which applies to you) characteristics. As this is a few months on, I don't know how you're doing, but do what you want and try to stay happy!
I chose a nickname from my childhood actually. My elementary school teacher and my grandma called me Ami (German pronunciation) and I LOVED that nickname so much, it’s androgynous and cute! I feel so much more comfortable with being called Ami. 🌈
I am a trans non bianairy right now I asked my friends out of a few names and they liked Ashton/Ash and I liked it to so I have that name for my masculine name too
Guys I'm struggling so bad thinking of a name. I like sam but I'm in the spn fandom and I love sammy do I cant do that to him. Could you give me some names? Unisex plz
If you haven't decided, I say go for whatever makes you comfortable. If you don't feel comfortable with it; then change it. She will be in your heart forever and she knows you love her.
I've been going by Wilbur because its the name of someone I'd like to be. But also I really like Bentley and Legend so who knows, I might switch to one of those
suggest for some nonbinary folks consider my birthname or a varitian of it but the same saying :D my birthname is shea (sh-A)(short a it just the letter) shea the name is unisex but shea is more feminie used and shay is more masuline used :3
As a joke my best friend named himself after an ex-friend who turned out to transphobic and the name just stuck. I'm glad it did because it happens to be the same name I use which is actually what led to me talking to them.
It's really hard because my friends constantly judge me because I can't stay put on a single name. All of them (who are trans,) got to try out names online during COVID. I only came out at the end of COVID, thus IRL I've gone through names IRL. Genuinely hurts that people know past me, and I'm so gutted about how honestly difficult and annoying it must be on their end but I go through every day being called my birth name at home and then 2 names I said I don't mind at school. Still don't know what name is my name, boutta start my third year as a dude. It hurts, man.
Don't worry too much it's okay to take time to chose a name, I've first questioned my gender over 3 years ago and only choose my name like two months ago
My friend gave me the names Rowan and Axel, and I really liked both of them but I chose Rowan! I really do love the name, and it gives me weird happy feelings when people call me Row/Ro/Rowwy and I'm the happier than ever before. Although my mom said that I would've been named Koda if I was boy, which I also really like, and I'm kinda going through a "I MUST FIND THE **PERFECT** NAME" phase and trying a bunch of stuff, but I still really do love Rowan.
My name is Grey but I really like the name Yuri aswell and I already changed my name due to me being a trans demiboy so I’m struggling a lot with my identity and I already told everyone my name is Grey but I don’t wanna say I changed my name again :(
It’s so weird I just looked up the meanings of my birth name and my chosen name and they weirdly have a similar vibe of like sea warrior and I like that
I've been kinda going through a lot of names, but rn going through Simon (which means silent - and it's fitting as I keep silent about myself) which I got from Simon Henriksson from Cry of Fear; and Rodion, which I took from "Crime and Punishment" as I've really liked the protagonist & it fits my culture - haven't been exactly feeling it's my name tho
I wish I didnt rush into changing my name to Leo (More masucline than my deadname and I rushed because I was so excited to finally understand being trans and that i could pick a name) as I dont really like my name I have. I really *really* want to change my name Mitchell because I love it so much and it was inspired by someone I look up to but I feel like an ass for not waiting a while longer as my family and school just got used to calling me Leo.

Did you end up changing your name? I'm in the same situation right now
i've been going back through your vids since i found your channel but i do wanna share my story! I just kind of had an epiphany while on a discord call of "wow i love Robin so much, (dc comics/batman) the character means so much to me and i kin them a lot!!" and then it just hit me that I didn't want to be called by my birthname anymore and just said "i think i wanna go by Robin from now on"
I chose my name Lye by watching a lot of videos and going on many websites to see what names are similar to lily (my dead name) but could work for both genders I also wanted an uncommon name as lily is such a common name it literally disgusted me. When picking your name think if you want it to be unique or lean a certain way. remember guys there’s no right or wrong way to pick your name inspired or not as long as it’s comfortable
Love your hair. Love you. You look so so soooo fucking great and perfect. And how you move your arms and everything omg. Thanx a lot. I'm like considering all that tips already, and I'm going crazy. Too many cultures to take names from, too many websites, puffff🤔🤔😅🙃😥😥🙁... Really really like you💛💛💛💛.
Love Aaron . Burr, Sir. Hamilton? Eheheh, uh, about your name, if you like it, go ahead, be Aaron or whoever, you could always change it anyways. I know someone online who went from Luke to James. And I’m thinking about changing mine.
I'm a trans man. I use 2 names, and they're both related to things I like, but I didn't name myself after them. The name I want to use as a middle name, however, is directly named after someone. That name is Nigel. Named after Nigel Bailey from Relic Hunter. I feel like I can relate to that character in a way,as well.
i THINK I'm non binary, but im not SURE, but i think the name Andie/Andy is cool. It's not even close to my birth name, which I katelyn...😊i just really like it
Hi Ashton, i love your videos, I’m a ftm trans, never stop being yourself! Can you please help me with a boy name braised on my pearsonallity? 🙏 My pearsonallity:twisted, creative, nice, helping, drawer, furry, funny, caring, and loving
I don’t *think* I’m trans, but I do have a name idea for a transmasc version of myself. Jonathan. Don’t really know why, I’m just attached to it. Perhaps I’ll come back to this video in a decade as Jonathan. Perhaps I will never be Jonathan. Maybe I’ll one day have a kid or pet named Jonathan. Who knows
Before I knew I was and before I came out I asked my parents wat my name would be if I was born a boy and they said my name would be Hayden and I never thought about it like "Oh I like that name" but now I kind of like it maybe I'll start saying I'm Hayden but now I've been into the names Laurence and Kaden or Kade whatever I don't know what to do lol...
i’ve already changed my name twice. I’ve gone by Abben for a year now and i kinda am thinking about changing it again,,,,,,, to Allen. it’s only two letters apart.
{Names i didn't choose} ___________ Drew. Robin Rio Rummi Rowen Quinn Phoenix Raven Indigo Sage Journey Remy Jammy Asher Nico Finnley Jaxen Andre Andreas. Jax Jackson Jay Roy Ace Raymond Ray Rico ____________ [The name i chose]. 🎉Ross🎊
I was lucky enough to have a gender neutral middle name at birth. So I put my middle name as my first name and took the name my mom wanted for me as my middle name. Then I had one of my closest friends help me come up with a (more often used) middle name, Tatetym. So in this case my full name is Austin Tatetym Kai Stephan
I went with the masculine version of my birth name to make it easier on everyone else but now I'm not a very big fan of it anymore. I already changed it legally so I don't know if I'll change it again but I kinda want to... I feel like it would be too much to ask of people though
My name is Ash and I chose it by going to a baby name website. I didn't want a name that started with the same letter as my birthname (you can see that in the account name). I picked my favourite few, and I couldn't decide between them, so I sent them to my friends, saying they were suggestions for a gender neutral book character's name (I write short stories). They all agreed that Ash was the best and I thought so too. The next day, at school, I came out to my friends as nonbinary and asked them to call me Ash :). Thanks for the video Ashton, it really helped in the process of picking my name.
My name could be kind of perfect for non binary people ^^ Because I'm called Karola, which is just the female version of Karl which simply means "man" BUT also "the free one". So it's a female name but its meaning is "the male one" or "the free one" - so I can be whatever the heck I want to be :-D
I’m a musician and the name I use online for everything is based on my irl birth name which I’ve always been kind of averse to (it’s pretty aggressively gendered and ostentatious). I still use that name for online things but I’ve loved the name Shea/Shai for about 4 years now (drag race may or may not have had something to do with it lol) and have been wanting to use it for a while but keep my birth name as like a middle name or something bc I’m nonbinary.
so, my parents were going to name me angel but didn't want me to get bullied so now im considering angelo but idk. im very chinese and angelo is like italian so that's kinda weird. it's the only name im really considering though bc I don't think many other names suit me?
