Everyone’s all “non-binary people name themselves after rocks.” And I was like “haha but my name (Micah) isn’t a rock” until I found out that it was actually a type of rock.
I would fully watch a TV show where a panel of Trans Elders names baby trans folks, weekly. And then the baby trans weigh in on whether they want to use the name or not. And we find out what they ended up choosing.
This is a fabulous spin off tv show right here! Jaime can you make it happen? Like a zoom call thing with you Shaaba, Noah, Roly and anyone else who would be awesome. Or like: Trans baby introduces themself/herself/himself and then individually the judges think of some names. Then reveal them. The Trans baby does a vlog trying out each of the 4 names (answering a phone call, getting friend to say their name/ ordering coffee etc) and talks about initial thoughts on name, how it felt to trial it. Then we go back on the 5 way zoom and they reveal their fave name (even if they ate still undecided or actually have a totally different name in mind)
Haha the way I got my name was when my friend and I were looking for names on a baby naming website and I scrolled down a little and was like yes this one and even tho I like a ton of other ones it just seemed to stick with me
I'm a cis straight female but I thought this video was so cute, if more trans people want to be named i think it would be amazing to make this into a series
There was a comment in this feed about making this a tv show. Such a good idea. Jamie and Shaaba are adorable, this concept is adorable as it celebrates and welcomes baby trans into the fold. There is a lot of love on this channel and I LOVE it!
I’m ftm and I’m not out yet but I already have a name! My dead name is Alexandria, which I don’t hate. I didn’t want to completely disregard it, and I didn’t want Alex, because I’ve been called Alex as a “female” and I don’t want to be reminded of it. I decided to end up with Axel, which is fun, and it’s a play off my old name and I LOVE it! Just wanted to share, since I’m not allowed to be out as trans and this video brings me happiness about being ftm. 😅
LaGwenyvere my family and environment right now is HIGHLY against being lgbtqia outwardly. And since I’m not quite an adult, I would not be allowed to transition further than a haircut. I can’t even come out because of the stigma behind it (you don’t know what your talking about, you just want attention, etc.) It’s sad, but I will talk to my therapist about it after I can see her again (covid). 😊
We name ourselves after the nearest object and never look back. My friends saw the drawing of Prince Hamlet on my desk and I've been Jamlet ever since.
I love how everyone in the comments agree that non-binary culture is naming yourself after a noun. article of clothing? that could be a name. food? dessert? perfect name, I'll take it. Pie doesn't have a gender and neither do I.
This is probably one of my favourite comments lol I love this. Kinda wish I could change my name but I like how old people react and are like “you don’t hear Abigail very much anymore” and being able to tell people that idgaf if they call me Abby or Abigail (can even call me Abby Abigail if you want idc😂😂 I’ve legit had a teacher call me that) and the surprised looks on their face. I just usually go by Abby bc I thought that was my actual name until I was like 5😬😂
@@akaissy oh i feel you. i die a little bit inside every time someone tries to say my first name. no one says it quite like my mom does, ive debated asking people to call me by my middle name instead since its not as hard to get right. (I'll confess that i actually do go by Pie and the reactions i get are absolute gold.)
Jamie saying “interesting” to “Neapolitan” is funny to me simply because enbies WOULD. Highkey...? Maybe I’ll consider that, I’m currently questioning if Vlynn is the best name for me.
I really like that it sounds very pretty. (Assuming that's a word your comfortable with) and yeah enbys TOTALLY name themselves Neopolotin😂 after all, I've met on named Bones before lmao
I'm a trans guy going by "Apollo" Because of the Greek God Apollo, God of the Sun, Masculinity, and Fine Arts. I think it fits me very well hehe. My friends have dubbed my nickname "Sunshine" hehe
That's so cool! I have a Greek god name too!! I'm nonbinary and my name is Artemis, I named myself after the Greek goddess of wildlife and hunting :D And I go by Arrow as a nickname because it's a bit more gender neutral, and it has connotations to hunting and such.
I’m named after CS Lewis and you won’t even believe the mistakes that are made 😂 Using Starbucks for a new name is a good strategy for when you can’t think of a name. I’m taking notes
@@Noahyw-. I went to order, and gave them my birth name when they asked for a name. Because my voice is really light, the barrista misheard me and wrote a similar but different name. I have a picture saved to snapchat of the cup with me asking if I could use the name on the cup instead 😅 😂
So I'm the guy from 8.10 in the Video. I'm so shocked and exited to be in the video, I wouldn't have thought of Kieran myself but I do like the name. I've been used to Stephen so I think I'll stick to that lol. But thank you so much for naming me Jammie and Shaaba!!! Much love.
I should've done this- I went and named myself Arson edit: nvm my name is mars now edit 2: oops anyway i use 12 names now but the main ones are levi and spencer edit 3: Hi, I'm Elijah. My nickname is Leo.
A linguist would say that Jamie’s accent is non-rhotic, i.e. skips some or all R sounds. This feature is common in many parts of the world. Rhotic vs. non-rhotic is one of the most noticeable features of an unknown accent.
Me, being British, took so long to find out what you mean. I read 'ah' as 'a' but I realise now that when I say R is sounds like are. Did I make sense of it orr-
My bf and I are planning on naming our first daughter Athena (if we ever have one, we are just prepared bc we’ve had a lot of pregnancy scares lol) bc her cousin is Apollo🥰 (my bf also names him with his sister and her ex fiancé)
Correct me if I’m wrong but there is like countless nonbinary Kais and Alexs this coming from a nonbinary hooman considering Alex but concerned it’s to cliché
Today I hired a lawyer to help change my own actually baby trans person's name (she's 6 and socially transitioned over a year ago) so she can start the school year with her real name instead of her birth name on her school computer accounts. Hiring a lawyer feels disturbingly adult despite being nearly 40 already.
Update: her legal name change went through in only a couple of weeks and Charlie Robin [last name] started school a few weeks ago with absolutely no risk of getting birth-named :)
I am absolutely thrilled that you chose my own name for one of the babies. I am the proud Mama of a stunning trans woman, and I remember the stages she went through when choosing her name - she actually used Robin as her new middle name. The beauty of the name Robin is that it is perfect for both men and women - one of my online names is Chickadee Rob, and no one knows if I'm male or female. lol. The person you chose Robin for is beautifully androgynous, and I think the name suits very well. To Baby Robin - whether or not you choose the name, know that Mama Robin is out here feeling very proud of you.
I love hearing people's stories about how they picked their name because sometimes it's meaningful and sometimes it's silly and they're all so valid and interesting. I picked my name because I was listening to a Japanese song and they said 'Everett' and it stood out to me because it was an English name and I was like 'huh cool' and then proceeded to think about the name for six months until I finally admitted I loved it and wanted it to be mine.
so im ftm but i picked luna as my name even tho its more feminine becuse Luna means moon in German and ive always been connected to the moon and was born on a super moon. luna came to me before i even knew i was trans but i started going by that online during a huge change in my life so its kinda stuck with me since.
I cycled through names that never worlds and then finally picked my name by asking my mom what she would’ve named me if I were born male and she said Sean spelled that way and everything. So yeah... my mom named me... how exciting and interesting 😆
I'm sure you're just as pretty, it's just harder to see the beauty in ourselves sometimes. Just know people will think that same way when they look at you! 💕
My parents were very clear with me that I had a choice between the three names they chose before I was born if I ever came out as trans. Not many parents would have had that conversation with their presumably cis daughter but at least they let me know I'd be accepted no matter what in their own low key way. I've actually considered changing my name to the gender neutral variant of one of those names in the past but I'm opposed to the level of effort that would take. It's a shame not every parent is happy to have such conversations with their kids... Would probably greatly reduce coming out stress for baby trans.
Just dropping a little comment for the baby trans people out there, naming yourself after a celebrity is probably not a good idea. I named myself after mixing together Zayn Malik's first name and Shane Dawson's first name (I was 13, leave me alone 😂). After all the terrible stuff surrounding Shane Dawson came out, I really regret naming myself after him. I've been going by that name exclusively for about 2-3 years now, so I've developed a connection to it, but knowing the background and reasoning for it happening in the first place just makes me go "bleh" at my name now.
Thank you for saying that, it's the first time I've heard about it. I love your name- it's unique and sounds quite beautiful. Your name represents you and becomes a part of who you are, regardless of who you're named after. If, however, you stop identifying with it, you can always try out a different name to see if it works better. :D I'm named after Tamar from the bible and I've never felt a connection with her. I started connecting with my name when I decided that it could be gender-neutral. I may change my name in the future though. :) Someone commented on this video with the name Milo and I'm a bit obsessed ':D
This is why I named myself Aiden (pronounced Eye-den) after a video game character who is literally a spirit xD But that's a good message to put out, it's an easy thing to do when you get to choose your own name and have a lot of celebs you look up to. Think of naming yourself as getting a tattoo, you can get it covered over but if there's any chance of regretting it, it's probably best you don't get it at all. :)
Welp, it's too late for me! I took on the name Ethan as one of my names (CrankGameplays). I was thinking about Mark too, but I found that to be a bit weird and it's a name that can be used to make many jokes with and I don't like that.
Sweetie Actually wheezing, you have been let off this time. You do not need to eat your binder. Plus, those things are pricey xD A heckin good game tho right haha
Transfem here, still deciding on a name, but one of my friends suggested Lilith as a name. As a Satanist I love the history of it, and I love that Lily is a very normal-sounding name to introduce myself by, but it has a *secret goth side.*
"Is "Neb" a name?" Yes Shaaba, it is, at least it's mine lol I go by Nebula/Nebby/Neb/Nebbs online and have done so for years. I don't go by it IRL, but it's still my online preferred/chosen name. Thought that was interesting you mentioned that for them/him since I also have a shaved head, wonder if it's just the vibe lol
@@sixela6 If you're trying to change it so it doesn't show your dead name I think you have to change your username :) (Also Lexi is a great name, my sister wants to change her name to that!)
Before reading the full comment, I saw your user and I though it name was axolotl. Ngl tho that would be a pretty cute name ♥️😂 (Wow, my name's Talyn/Tae now and I'm nonbinary... A lot has changed since I've commented these things.. 😂)
i know this comment is late, but the concept of this video reminds of me making my parents guess my new name when i came out to them and my dad getting it right first try without any hesitation. it was really magical✨
Hey, my friend actually did this for me! They named me Mika, since it’s androgynous enough to not expose my closeted self, but it’s also more masculine than my (preferably dead) name.
You two are probably, no *definitely* , are my FAVOURITE couple (Edit) so I see that ppl are saying that they are bi and pan. I get that but I just said heterosexual cause man and woman but I get where yall are coming from still they're my favorite 💗💗💗
RainbowPanic I’m not transphobic, I just misunderstood what you were saying. I thought you meant hetro as in that they are both straight, not as in that they are an opesite sex couple
Non-binary people almost always just say "screw it" when choosing there names and end up with really cool names because they can name themselves after almost anything. And I know like 3 people who have just given themselves 1 letter name's (well, not ACTUALLY 1 letter but pronounced that way) like I know 2 people called B and I know an L. I think it's so cool how you people get to have whatever you want as your name. Not saying I don't like my name I just mean you people just go all out and always end up with something cool. I also don't mean to say if you're non-binary you can't have a traditional gender neutral name. You go with whatever suits you.
@@koro-is-caffeinated They named themself after the Styx!? What is their name and how are they so cool? *Edit: big mythology fan, in case that's not obvious
@@transmaddie Well, their name is Styx to put it simply lol. They had an androgynous name before but they're also very into mythology and when they brought it up we all found it fitting and cool!
"Neo, I'm not sure if Neo's meant to be a name" "Better than Politan" my brain: "Better than Sock obv" (also no offense to all the Sock enby's out there, you are valid and i love you)
bunny eared namjoon whenever I think of the name Sock, it just gives me vibes from that “but the yoyo man didn’t answer” vine. Which isn’t necessarily bad! But it’s just... well.. it’s the vibes...
my name story's kind of interesting actually. back when i used deviantart before i realized i was anything other than cishet, i made a comment on some art of one of my favorite artists at the time, and she called me bee bc of my username, and i thought it was really cute so it just kinda stuck and i've been using it online ever since. im not sure if i want to use that name in real life just yet since i havent had a serious discussion about changing my name yet with my family (though i am out as nonbinary), but i think bee is a really cute name even if i end up deciding not to use it for myself ^^
I have a cat named Bee, I got him as a kitten and I chose the name while thinking he was female (breeder couldn't tell at first) but the gender change made no difference to me. I love it as a name for him because he's pitch black and it just fits - and when I'd already decided on the name I had a cute experience with a friendly bumblebee! Also I'm from near Manchester and it's the symbol of the city :) Bees are fascinating too, we studied them in linguistics because they can communicate huge amounts just with their "dance"! Lots of great associations!! 🖤
Thought I'd share my experience of picking a name and I remember when I was young I asked my mum if I were born a make what would she have named me. She gave me two names Christopher-Jon and John-Dimitri few years later I was trying to think of a name and tried out using the name Phoenix but I knew deep down in my heart that I loved Christopher-Jon and so it stuck. I've been legally known as Christopher-Jon for almost 2 years now and it feels amazing. Wishing everyone on this video and in the comments the best of luck with your journey❤
honestly, it's so difficult to come across genuinely nice comment sections these days. It's sad that this niceness is refreshing, but hey, I'm very glad I decided to scroll today :)
When you emphasized the word 'we' I got really confused, then my mind flashed to the title with the word 'baby' in it, and for a second there, I thought you were hinting at Shaaba being pregnant. Then I realized
My thoughts: 1st: Philip or Pierce 2nd: Micah or Tyler 3rd: Auris or Robyn 4th: Theox (read: "Theo") or Ignis? 5th: Reese or Declan (aka Deeks) or Kiegan or Nate? 6th: Sol or Kyle or Mitch 7th: Rachel or Ruby or Rhea or Renée 8th: Jordan or Tatum or Chase or Eli 9th: Francine or Fern or Cloe
My birthname was originally Skylar, but I changed it to Tylar with an a only to make it easier for everyone around me to switch to my new name. Im not out to my parents yet so it also makes it much more simpler to cover up if someone says my new name. (he/him btw)
So I think I missed this at some point, but when Jamie says his channel name isn’t the biscuit, what is it named after? This has kept me up last night haha
Hey I recently watched you and Shaba’s video about future kids! Another option that is generally unheard of is Embryo Adoption! It’s basically when a couple who went through IVF has “leftover” frozen embryos that they choose to donate❤️ Another good option to be aware of!
My previous name was “Alexis” (I’m strangely comfortable with saying my previous name) but now I go by “Alex” in my family, my friends call me “Ash” and online I go by “Angel” I’m a name-y mess
Hey everyone! i hope you’re having an amazing day. I need some help. I am cis. my sister if mtf. of course i support her fully but she hasn’t been acting herself lately. she doesn’t want to come to family gatherings anymore. i know it’s not because of the pandemic but i was wondering if it’s anything to do with dysphoria? please don’t get me wrong i’m not trying to assume anything about the trans community i’ve been trying to do some research to get learn about it more. i just want her to be happy. if anything about this comment is offensive in anyway then please let me know i really don’t want to hurt anyone i just need some advice. thank you for reading, even if you don’t reply, you’ve done a lot to me just by reading this. thank you so much everyone and have a fantastic day ❤️❤️❤️
I could be because of dysphoria or feeling insecure around family members, but I would try to not assume anything. You seem like a great sibling, so for her to know that you will always support her (also around family) might already help a lot and you can try to talk to her about it if she wants that :)
Yeah, I was glad to read your message! Good for you supporting your sister, and researching on your own! As Charlie said, the reluctance to attend family gathering seems to me that there are some negative feelings coming from other family members toward your sister... Of course this might not be the case! Sending good wishes to you both~
if you are having trouble choosing a name, Sanskrit is a great language to look into since it's got three genders (masculine, feminine, and neither) and if you like a name that's masculine, it can easily be made feminine by changing the end vowel, and vice versa (i.e Krishna when pronounced with a short "a" is masculine but make it Krishnā and it's feminine).hope this helps!
"a lot of people think Charlie is really basic" I mean I wanted to call myself Mercury at one point because cool names are cool, but I just think I'm too... Not artistic to pull of that so. I'm a Charlie. But I like it because it's ambiguous. And my partner suggested it.
I'm a trans guy, still unsure if I will transition or not but whatever I've been going by Joe/Joseph(my chosen name) and Sam/Samuel (variation of my birthname) Either way, this is a really really cute idea and I would absolutely love to see more videos like this one 🌟♥️
Just my thoughts and the names that came to mind :) 2:17 im getting a Tucker/Tyler vibe 3:32 im getting a strong Daniel/David/D name vibe 4:16 im getting very strong Jax/Spade vibes 5:01 i can see them as a Link. Not too sure why but i can just *see* it 6:03 I’m thinking about Dennis/Romano/Romeo or Romero 7:00 im getting BIG Mason/Eli/Peyton/Kaleb energy 7:33 Im getting Delilah/Daisy/Dahlia/Rosemary/Rosie/Rose vibes. (I honestly think Dahlia would be a PERFECT name for her) 8:24 major Grayson/Gray vibes !! Along with Benji/Kai/Ace/Axil 9:04 im getting Annie/Karissa (i know a girl who looks like her who’s named Karissa lmao)/Layla/Penelope/Paige
this vid is adorable! when i started transitioning (nb ftm, he/they) i had a really hard time with deciding if i even wanted to change my names. even though they’re very much considered girls names, i had a strong connection to both of them. but after a while it became clear to me that i was getting increasingly uncomfortable being called those names as my transition progressed. So i opted for the masculine version of my old first name and swapped my old second name out for one of my family members’ /former/ middle name as a tribute to how impactful his presence in my life has been. i also decided to take up my grandmother’s maiden name as a last name, just to be a little bit extra! (where i’m from last names aren’t the norm, we usually go by “name parentsson/daughter”) so now i proudly am: Jóhann Hjörtur Stefánsson Bruhn✨
I went through 7 names before I settled on Ana, it's my mother's name, she's not a part of my life but I wanted to give her credit for giving life to me
When I first came out, it was at the height of my Harry Potter obsession, and every other weekend or so, I would be working on one of the many fanfictions I wrote during those days, soooo initially, I named myself after my favorite HP character -- Ginny, but after about a year and a half, two years or so, decided to go with something a little more common, and chose Morgan, which I am very happy with. On the other hand, I still haven't settled on my middle name; at the moment, I'm leaning towards Catherine (with possible spelling variations) to honor my mom, but I can't decide if I want to do that, or really make my name reflective of me as an individual, since my father and I are not getting along. In any case, I have not yet applied for my legal name change, so there's still time if Papa Jamie or Mama Shaaba (or anyone who reads this lol) want to throw out some suggestions, that would be appreciated and will probably make me laugh, as this video did.
Me when Jamie suggests a name: ooh yeah, that sounds like it fits! Me when Shaaba suggests a different name a second later: ooh yeah, that sounds really good too!
