Choosing the Evergoods CPL24 as a camera bag over the Wandrd PRVKE in 2023

This is way out of my wheelhouse, but I wanted to share my thinking behind choosing the Evergoods Civic Panel Loader 24L as a camera bag, instead of the WANDRD PRVKE 11L or 31L. I spent a ton of time scouring RU-vid and Reddit trying to figure out what bag I wanted, and this was the best way I thought to pay it forward for the next person trying to figure it out.
What bag do you all use?
I should also call out that I received nothing for free, nor was I asked to review anything. I payed for all of these items myself, because I wanted to. I've added both affiliate links on amazon and the direct links to the product websites. If you click the affiliate link and end up making a purchase, I get a little commission which is neat, but obviously feel free to use the direct links to the manufacturers.

Thanks for the review!! I think backpack reviews sometimes fail to display how you actually pack it in a real scenario, and although I don’t have to carry a camera it was very nice seeing how you fixed all your carry in place, very interesting options the attachable water bottle holder and the clothes sleeve!

Great video! I’m a huge Evergoods fan, own 5 evergoods bags and several accessory pouches. The CPL24 has been my main pack for about two years now and i absolutely love that bag. I just picked up the CTB26 and now I’m in love all over again. It has all the same features as the CPL24 plus an extra pocket in the front and water bottle pockets on both sides. The main pocket is bigger than the CPL24 and will easily carry the load out you show in this video. I use it to carry drone and camera gear among other things. Might want to check it out as well if you haven’t already.

Great video, would you be able to do an update / write one, of how this worked out for you and any changes you may have made?

Just got my on-sale CPL24 in orange today. I can confirm the orange photographs much brighter than it is. All the pics I could find and other videos make it seem really blaze orangey, but it’s a bit darker in person. Your video really shows the most accurate color. Thanks!

Interesting video and you've clearly researched the subject a lot. Wish more backpack-videos where made like this. IMO you do it right by explaining your use cases and priorities and then select based on those. It's clearly impossible to make this completely objective as individual needs are so important. I have similar use cases and have struggled to find the perfect pack for years - without quite getting there. Personally I require at least one outside bottle/tripod pocket so your choice isn't mine, but I still found your video useful. Good work!

I'd love to see an update now you're a few months in. I've had the cpl24 since December and I've been loving it. My use case is a little different. More outdoor sports and onebag travel than cameras but it's always great to see others' tips and tricks.

Was thinking about going the same route but trying the Moment Everything Camera Insert 4L on one side and another organizational cube of sorts on the other.

I’ve finally found my packing twin. Lol, I’m been eyeing the CPL24 for weekend camera onepack travel. I was stunned when I saw your tenba 9L because I use the same thing. Then I yelled hell no when you picked up your blackember water bottle because you know what, I have the exact same thing. thank you for your review.

I was thinking of the same three bags, with the same use cases (almost), and you described most of my thought processes back to me better than they were in my head. Thank you!

I’m glad it helped! Which bag do you think you’ll go with?
@cassist
@cassist 6 месяцев назад
@@shahrose For now I'm going to try to make do with what I have until something really clicks, but the top choice at the moment is the CPL24. Some gripes I have with it are that trying to get to 2 cameras might be difficult, I wish some of the volume of the laptop compartment went to the main instead, and the import costs to Canada adds a significant markup over the competition who have local distributors. As a side note, I wish there were more/better implementations of the 4-way zipper found on the wandrd duo...
@shahrose
@shahrose 6 месяцев назад
I agree that two mirrorless or dslr camera bodies would be tough in the cpl24, and very much agree about the wandrd zipper system! Not sure if it’s any better with import costs, but the Shimoda bags looked really cool too, with more camera cube space. The price was just a bit outside what I wanted to pay
@cassist
@cassist 6 месяцев назад
@@shahrose Shimoda bags look great for people who want a dedicated camera bag! I'm just a weirdo who likes cameras enough to want to specifically grab either my wide angle camera or mirrorless camera while I'm travelling, but doesn't want camera gear taking up too my of my pack. Maybe the AON Whitley would be a CPL24 competitor with more emphasis on the main compartment.... but shares a lot of the same downsides too

Thanks for a great video! I'm in a bit of a similar boat - got Wandrd Duo this spring for my pretty compact Fuji setup, but now want to try a non-camera backpack with clamshell opening, looking into CPL 24 and CTB 26. Tell me, how do you feel about side access to your camera on the CPL 24? The opening is pretty narrow, the camera cube has no side access, and the camera is pretty big
@shahrose
@shahrose 6 месяцев назад
Glad you enjoyed it! The side access is good enough IMO. It’s for sure not as silky smooth as pulling it out of a camera access, but still doable while on the go. It helps that the tenba 9 slim’s opening is at the top of the cube, so its zipper sits close to the zipper of the cpl when accessing it from the side. The other big factor for me was that I actually keep the camera out of the bag for quite a while, and use the pd capture clip while I’m shooting. I’m putting it in and taking it out infrequently, so the slightly less convenient side access wasn’t a problem.

looks great! you may try the chicken tramper ultralight gear water bottle pouch (wide). it has bigger diameter

This is awesome, and it looks like it will fit my bigger water bottle! I’m gonna give this a shot, thanks for the recommendation!
