As you know I run my 54" zero turn and a 30" push mower. For next year I definitely need to add a 61" or 72". My 54" just gets abused on my large properties, especially the 23 acre. It does very well on my subdivision properties. Have a great night!
Great video, great topic for sure Shane ! I like your thinking, I use 52, 42 , and 20 inch Hondas! Just to be versatile! You do nice work, as always, be safe and have a great week Doc , take care ! I love the 52 the best myself 😊
Thanks brother! I am with you on the 52", that will be my next one for certain. I really appreciate the kind words about my work. Hope you have a productive week brother! God bless
Very informative shane I have seen my set up but I personally will say I love my 36” 44” and 52” mowers I think I have one yard I have to push mow back but anything else I wouldn’t use personally
I have a 30, 44, 52 and a 60 inch mower. In my area I have many clients who have 4 foot gates so the 44 inch is great to get in the back gates and get things done quick. The 52 inch stand on Scag is great for almost all of my properties. It’s nimble and light but can cover a lot of ground. The 60 inch is my backup to the 52 inch and is the mower I use for big properties (1-3 acres). The 30 inch push mower is for 3 foot gates and people who want their yard push mowed. I think it’s best to have many mowers to choose from so you can take in any client and have back ups in case things go wrong.
Jaden, man you made some great points on why having multiple mowers is important. Sounds like you are ready for battle. Thanks for the input and sure this will help others! Appreciate it bro
@@DOCREAL1118 thank you! Are you planning on keeping the 48 when you buy a 52? You might want to consider keeping the 48 and buying a 61. That would be a great combo for your yards and you could run both mowers on a trailer.
@@DOCREAL1118 that’s good to here. If your trailer is 12 foot you should be able to fit the 48 and 61. That would be a perfect set up for you. The 52 is nice but if you already have a 48 then the 61 would be much more valuable for your bigger properties. If you could run both mowers at the same time you could use the 48 for small properties and 61 for big properties. Your efficiency would go way up.
For me 60 and a 48. Most of my properties are big. Only a few smaller than a half a acre. The 48 is mainly a back up I have one gated yard. But the 48 has had to cut 2 to 3 acres properties and come in clutch when it does.
@@DOCREAL1118 the 60 is an absolute must have for me. It absolutely crushes on small yards as long as no gates. Big time saver over the mainly because you have less trimming but they both serve a purpose.
That yard came up great Doc. Horses for courses with deck size hey. Just have to match with the properties you mow. My Bobcat 42 inch covers all bases for me - small resi to larger properties. Small deck can do larger properties, but the larger deck can't do the smaller ones. Cheers Mate. 💯👊💪😎
I tell my wife if I can get at least $500 a week this year I am upgrading my 36” Lesco Belt Drive walk behind to probably a bad boy 48” hydro walk behind. I want a walk behind cause I need the exercise.
I do a lot of inner city lots that don’t all for bigger mowers so I go with a 21 inch mower nothing wrong with that. When I started out I went with what’s the cheapest it got me through but I buy the better push mowers with more horse power no commercial ones but I went with higher end residential. Some I could use a 30 inch maybe a 36 but iam not buying another mower for 2 yards and I would have to have a means to haul it which I don’t.
Hope your buddy Ron shoulder gets better God bless hope you get better I've been there. We love Crystal River that's where my J D dealer is 😊 and the Freezer Seafood restaurant the best seafood place 😊
One other thing to consider if you’re just starting out is that usually with the less expensive models of mowers you’re not getting the same horsepower options as the top-of-the-line stuff. What I mean is you might get better results with a 48 inch deck mower that has a 22 hp engine than say a 60 inch with that same motor. Especially with the thicker stuff as seen in this video. The sizes I mentioned are kind of irrelevant. It’s just the point that I’m trying to make but what do I know lol.
That is a great point. The top of the line mowers do have top of the line engines. The torque is exactly what you want. If you are taking on many properties like this one you must have the best equipment you can buy. Thanks again man
Hey Doc, I stop sneaking up there and putting down triple 19 fertilizer down ! Hahahaha, great video brother, HI MRS SARAHHHHHHHHHH. Ron, you the man brother
@@DOCREAL1118 yeah my magnum been holding up pretty good. But think I'm sizing up after this season to the zt elite or magnum HD bought time to retire the deere we had it since 96
Hey, Doc! Size matters?! Darn right it does! Especially when you have to reach something on top of the cabinets!🤣 @ Ron Drake Ron's Lawns Crystal River. Ron, PLEASE, DO NOT mess around with your shoulders! Go get them checked out and follow the doctor's instructions to the letter! Doc, thanks for ANOTHER great video! Good content, good advice, good points and always GREAT work. Keep it REAL! TRUTH! Hi, Sarah!
I always say there's 4 things that should dictate your decision: Practicality (efficiency), simplicity, comfort and speed. As Massad Ayoob would say "Taylor the tool to the task."
Mr. Ayoob is one of the most knowledgable men in the country when it comes to firearms and related topics, you will not be disappointed in any of his productions. He certainly has a wealth of knowledge and experience, second to none!
April 3rd I broke my femur walking out of my doctor office I’m going to try to mow the yard tomorrow It’s been tough for me. I’m doing my best. Keep me in prayer and wish me well
I have a bunch of residential’s 1/4 acre . I have often thought of trading my 60 vertex in for a 52 Scag V-ride II. It has power and speed. Great content today and yesterday.
@@DOCREAL1118 Thanks Doc, looking at Bad Boy, Scag or Ferris here, all standers. Ferris feels flattest when on platform, Scag feels like I'm leaning far forward and platform feels like my toes are pointed down. Trying to locate a Bad Boy here in S.E. Michigan. Your video review last year of the Bad Boy has really peaked my curiosity........and the price is much much better than the others!
@@johnd.613 The Bad Boy is so nice and tracks well. I think the Scag has a bit of a lean but I am short so it doesn't feel bad to me. I tried the Ferris and it feels too flat.
Just gotta say man that’s satisfying to see. When the grass goes into seed it obviously isn’t pretty. But seeing the transformation back into looking presentable scratches an itch. Be proud of a hard days work. I think you hit the nail on the head with deck size. There really isn’t a one size fits all type of thing. It really depends on what kind of area you will be primarily focused on.
Glad you enjoyed that one man! Tried to put in a little of everything. Today was a tough one but it's over and on to the next task! Agreed. I had to pick one and will pick one that does what I think will be best on most of my yards. Have a great night brother!
i think starting out... if someone would get a scag or toro 36inch walk behind with a velke would be perfect, very versatile and a toro 22 inch recycler, start small and decide from there for yourselves
I started out with a 100 dollar weed eater push mower at Walmart used the hell at of it until the deck started to crack then upgraded it to 22 inch toro
Anytime grass goes to see it seems to be hard on belts more than blades. I also have to grease everything a bit more. It certainly does dull the blades daily. Just all around a tougher 2 weeks
