YYEESSSSSSS!!! FINALLY a video on the advantages of a cylinder vs. flatbed!! Thank you times infinity for taking the time and the effort to produce this video.

This helped a lot. I am a beginner at leather crafting, and want to make bags, I initially thought that a flat bed was a good starting point until I saw this video. I could have shot myself in the foot. Good thing I started here, with this video, and now I am more/better informed. Thanks for the great informative vid!!!

Hey! Glad I could help in some way. Yea a flat bed is somewhat limiting. The cylinder arm machine with a flatbed attachment is so much more versatile.

Wow, I was considering purchasing one of these machines for canvas truck canopies new and repairs but with all the negative comments was reluctant and skeptical. But after watching your video I now understand what to expect. With a little fettling, that I can handle and a sturdier base, I was thinking of mounting it on a piece of pipe with a truck rim for a base so it can be moved around the shop floor. I think this will be a simple easy machine to maintain and repair when needed. Thanks, I am so glad you took the time to share this with us. Play Safe From Elliot Lake Ontario Canada.

Thank you man. I’ve been looking for a machine like this for seven years. I made hundreds of scabbards and holsters with my Tippmann Boss which I recently sold, going back to hand stitching, and hated the damn thing every time. I can hardly wait to get it in my greedy little paws.

Most excellent. I arrived at the same conclusion with the cylinder bed/arm machines. Picked one up used on CL Last week and it has changed my work already. Cool to see someone explain the situation so well because it all rings true to me. This is the info I wish I had. Thanks for sharing to others, Ryan. Your brand is impressive.

Luke Dorny do you mind if I ask how much it was. Also which model did you get and what kind of stuff do you make
@lukedorny
@lukedorny 4 года назад
It’s an older Necchi 840-100 and comes with a rotating bindery attachment for binding seams on bags. Picked it up for less than $1000. I put a speed reducer and servo motor instead of the massive clutch motor it had and I’m very happy with it. I make pillows, bags, backpacks, desk pads, and other items. Get a used machine to explore to keep the entry cost low. Learn it. Then decide what sort of machine fits your needs. Most machines are very good at specific tasks. Most are not good at a wide range of tasks. It’s not like the home sewing machine, you now? We wish it was more versatile, but they’re not. However there are machines that sit in a sweet spot for doing a few different tasks. For me the Cobra 2600 or the techsew 2750 would be my next one. I want larger thickness, thread, and stitch capabilities. Best of luck!

Just watched this video, very nice. Just wanted to ask you a few questions. How much does this machine cost? What does the machine come with?(accessories) How many layers of leather can it sew thru without getting bogged up? What is the maintenance on the machine when using it? Does it have a warranty and for how long? What is the thickest needle you can put on the machine with the appropriate thread? Does the machine only have 1 stitch pattern? Thanks for your help.

Thanks you much for sharing this. Invaluable. Discovered you after your session with Peter. Any chance you could do a video or series of videos (even better) on the financial side of leather crafting? Would be great to know how you actually make money doing this along with things you need to take into consideration. I just took a look at the Techsew and it's 3500 bucks! That's a lot of bags being sold at a decent margin to pay for the sewing machine. Would love to see how you approach this. There are a lot of videos out there on how to make stuff. Very few on how to run the business side of things. Love your work!

Nice walking-foot machine! Really like the attachments as well. I have a Consew 206RB that I use for heavy nylon and canvas. I want to dabble in leather, but unsure about all the different leather needles and which is best for what application. Maybe do a video on leather needles & sizes, types of stitch they create, and different threads to use on leather. Nice video!

Great video Ryan. Perfectly explained and a great display of how this machine works. I have the Techsew 2700 with the flat top attachment. So far I have enjoyed my machine. The fold down guide arm is great, it definitely helps with keeping layers lined up. As for the laser, I've not had much us for it. However that could just do with the items I'm making. It is another good item to have on your machine. Only hang up I do have is not actually with the machine, more with support. Supporting a mechanical item with out seeing the machine can be a lesson in developing patience. My machine is presently having an issue with "back stitching" and hitting the same holes that were made during the forward sewing action. This issue happened after installing the speed reducer. I've engaged their support and they have been responsive and answered all the questions I have as well as giving as much instruction as they can with the info I've been able to provide them. I'm confident this will get resolved, it will just take time with the way their support model is setup, which is phone and email. If anyone has questions I'm happy to assist.

This info. is EXTREMELY helpful. I really like your machine. I want to look it up to see what kind of feed it is and bobbin capacity. I have a extensive handbag collection with mostly vachetta leather. I like to modify them to the way I want to use them and especially the straps. I have done some modifications by hand and also have used a local shoe repair, but would like to do them myself by machine. I could see myself sewing canvas for outdoor awnings, umbrellas and upholstery if I had the right machine and I would have to get rid of something to make space for it. I own 4 different machines for various purposes to domestic sewing and quilting. When I get to the end process of my quilting, my domestic machine can't really handle some of the thick multi-layer seams I do. I also sew a lot of denim that my domestic machines can do, but I think an industrial machine could handle it with ease. Thanks for sharing!!!!

I have no idea how I'm going to pay for it, cuz I live a credit-free lifestyle & I dont do credit, but I will not sleep until I own this machine. It seems to satisfy everything I have been looking for. But the website says from 5-6oz, will it handle 2-3oz or 4-5oz ok too or is there something about it that makes the thinner stuff not work right? My work area is extremely small and I will only EVER have room for 1 machine, so that machine needs to "do it all".

Awsome Video! Just a Note: The needle position is done on the motor, which could be used on any industrial machine. A servo motor with needle position is only about $150 if anyone is thinking about it. Be sure to look up the wattage of the motor. Some are very weak, so very cheap. A 750 watt Consew CSM3000 is a good choice, IMO.

I watched both videos and I'm interested in your opinion of Sailrite sewing machines. I'm about to pull the trigger on their leatherworkers system. I'll be doing some general leatherworking (bags, wallets, guitar and gun straps, and a knife sheath here or there but I'll also be doing some upulstry work to. Yard furniture cushions, etc. Any insight would be great.

How does this compare to the New-Tech GC-8B Cylindrical Bed here: www.goldstartool.com/new-tech-gc-8b-cylindrical-bed-compound-feed-lockstitch-industrial-sewing-machine-with-table-and-servo-motor.htm I can only find this machine for minimum of $3000 which is kind of out of my range.

I am making boxing gloves and heavy bags using 4-5 oz leather or ripstop vinyl. I am looking at the techsew 2600 pro. does that sound right? I mean the the leather I am working is 1.5 mm thick but I will have about .5 in of EVA foam. I appreciate any feed back

I would go to the hardware store for some wingnuts to fasten the table down.

Will your machine work well for automotive upholstery leather, vinyls and cloth?
@Galwayblazer
@Galwayblazer 4 года назад
Yes it would, the machine has a walking foot which can be adjusted depending on thickness of leather or fabric .

This machine uses a compound, or triple feed system, which is an excellent feed system for motor or marine trimming. But not in this layout. A flat bed machine would be more suitable with an “M” class rotary hook, or top loading system. This machine with its large oscillating hook is designed for extra heavy duty applications, which motor trimming is not.

I was sewing Javelin jump rigs on sewing machines that were already 100 yrs old. I won't bother buying a new POS. My Singer is 80 yrs old. They don't make anything that lasts anymore.

I have the 2750 and it's been nothing but problems and tech support is clueless. If it wasn't for my husband being a cnc repair tech I would have hung myself.

That's unfortunate! What's the main problem?

replaced the needle bar, the rotary hook, bobbin holder and now the spring for the reverse lever broke. I have a consew 206rb over 5 years never had a problem. next cylinder bed will be a juki hopefully with a vertical bobbin. If they make one. your vids are pretty good, definitely prefer the tandy white glue over the barge.

Actually it is not a bad machine , It is a good machine , I just need patience. I would recommend that you go without the bobbin case and make sure you check your bobbins for rough spots. I should have went with the model you bought. Live and learn.

They are closed. It's the Queens Birthday! Huzza ! and out of stock on springs, but my husband was able to make a new hook for the spring and stretch the existing one that broke. Maybe I need to do a vid on how to keep machines going as a women with an industrial machine. Marry a genius !!

Contact Ron at Techsew and he can give you the best answers ... but, that 5100 is a Beast! It could very easily sew through what you are looking to do. Best to choose your machine based upon what you will be making. Industrial Machines are not like home sewing machines. Industrial Machines are designed to do one thing very well. For your Webbing ... if you are going to want Zig-Zag, the 5100 will not do that as it is a straight stitch only machine. Again ... Ron will be able to guide you to your best choices. Have a look through their selection online, through their website ... many machines for many uses. High quality for a fair price.

Great video Ryan. This helps a lot. I've always wondered if there was one machine that does the job. Questions: 1. How many Oz of thickness can this machine go through ? 2. How many Oz of thickness can the medium version (2700 I believe) can go through ? 3. Also, any plans of selling your Juki ? I primarily make wallets, journal covers, etc (small goods) and wanting to make bags in the future. Although I'm still a beginner and do hand-stitched, I'm wanting to enter the machine game soon.

Hey hey! The 5100 can sew through about an inch thick of material which is crazy! The 2700 or even the 2750 can do about 1/4 of that I believe. Techsew has some great machines at very reasonable prices.

It's a feature that techsew has added to their machine. It comes standard when you order a special edition machine from them.
