Anything from core i5 and above is just fine for your needs also put in mind you gotta buy the newer released generation of the CPUs (Anywhere from 11th gen- above is good).....Hope this helps.@@stryhuns

Long story short, Windows 11 requires Core i5/i7 or Ryzen 5/7 if you want a smooth experience. Core i3 and Ryzen 3 might do the job done too, but due to W11's hardware intensive nature, it might be slow too...

It really depends on the generation, for example a core i3 13100F is faster than an i9 9900K, and it also really depends on the use case, the ryzen 7 7800X3D(Desktop Processor) is faster in Gaming because of the 3D V-Cache (gaming generally uses less cpu cores, but needs more performance from each core ) than an i9 13900K(Desktop), but applications that are using multiple cpu cores (Video Editing, Photoshop etc. ) will run much better on an i9 13900K, because it just has more cores

Ok you completely forgot about the most important part, what comes after the catagory... A Ryzen 3 7300X will do really well on windows 11, but a Ryzen 3 1200 probably won't.

The number doesn’t matter, it’s the generation. Windows 11 requires a CPU later than 2017. I have a Ryzen 5 5600G, a solid gaming processor.

Judging by the comments, people don't actually understand that it's about a lot more than just the first number. The Intel Core i3 13100F will perform A LOT better than an Intel Core i7 4770. That's because there's 9 generations between them, even though the i3 is a "lower performing catagory"...

Very helpful, thanks. I saw a laptop from 2011 with a Core i7 that I wanted to buy. It must be better than a 2022 laptop with a Core i5. I'll save a lot of money AND get a better processor with the 2011 laptop!

3 = cheap, doesn't get as hot, slow as hell, for computers dedicated to single task (e.g. kiosk display) 5 = office work, light 2D games, idle temperature below room temperature 7 = programming work, 3D games, starts to get hot, idle temperature matches room temperature 9 = video editing, virtualisation server (e.g. microsoft hyper-v server 2019), gets really hot, requires 360mm AIO cooler

@@CandyTroll almost, you see Windows XP caught viruses extremely quick, and so you needed back then an antivirus and also praying for not catching a virus on your work pc, while Windows 2000 didn't caught viruses so easily. I think the reason was that Windows XP had the MS-DOS compatibility layer and there might have been to exploits available from the old home marketed operating systems.

How about a light weight official version that is free to use and it consumes under 500mb of ram and proper cleaning after updates, that would be amazing. And this way even the cheaper laptops with 2GB of ram and a dual core celeron would run nicer.... I'm tired of seeing how on a quad core cpu 30% of it processing power goes to running Windows and 4GB of ram as well....

what they should have said: buy 7th or (Maybe) 6th generation processors that have the integrated TPM function or that your motherboard has TPM, older generations are not compatible with the system and may have problems using modern systems, yes Well, there are ways to bypass these installation restrictions, we do not recommend them and we are not responsible for stability problems.

There are no stability issues, if TPM is bypassed. The only real deal is that your CPU shouldn't be way too old, because there's a certain instruction set (which I can remember right now which one it was) that is required, making some Intel CPUs from like over 2 decades ago incompatible.

You can run Windows 11 on CPUs going back at least 15 years. The reason Microsoft doesn't officially support it is because there's extra security features on the newer chips.@@LeonAlkoholik67
