Do you remember me,Traum? I asked you to play ballade no.4 in last year... You accepted my requirements, and you said that it would be played after a month... Unfortunately, after a month passed, nothing happened. So I thought you might forget it. However, I'm not actually frustrated about it, because I thought that you are busy for playing other songs which can make you forget about it! ( I also forget lots of things...hhh ) But today, you played the Chopin Ballade no.4! Whether you forget me or not, it's not that crucial point. Only the fact that you played this song is 'Meaningful'. I played this song for few years, because I play the piano without any standard educations and I didnt see any scores, just only seeing Synthesis(?) in youtube. So I asked you to play this song... hhh I live in south korea, so i'm not actually good at English. This comment is not translated... Thank you for reading my poor English. That moment is breathtaking 9:12 Chopin mixed elements from Ballade No. 2 there But I just realized that in this Ballade, Chopin also added parts from Ocean Etude, melodies similar to Fantaisie impromptu. I also recognize the left hand pattern from Nocturne No. 2 Near the ending of the piece, there is also a reference from "Double Thirds Etude" There probably are more things I'm unaware about

there are thirds, there are arpeggios, there are chromatic scales, etc. Chopin didn't actively copy any of his other compositions for this, or at least not the ones you said so. Chopin his compositions are just very recognizable (with recognizable I mean the fact that you can always tell when something is written by Chopin), that's why we think he used his own compositions as an inspiration (depending on what piece it is).

As a wise man once said: _woah_ You've played all the Ballades (except the 3rd) at this point! Someone argues that the 1st is the best, someone else says that the 4th is better but, personally, I love all the Ballades and I just can't pick one favorite: even the less popular has astonishing moments (think of the 2nd's Coda) By the way, here's a little anecdote: I remember when I had just started exploring Chopin's music; I randomly stepped on this Ballade (at the time I knew only the 1st) and my first thought was _woah this is actually pretty easy, I could play it!_ *Lmao*

And this melody just reminds me of the time I got hired and how this melody means hope. It gives me a reminder to never give up and keep doing what I love, which is to teach music.

Talking about the coda specifcally - i've listened to a lot of takes and i gotta say, i like yours by far the best. Im aware that your talking a more free, maybe not 100% text bound attempt (im not exactly familiär with the text, but from comparison with most others), maybe exaggarting the pedal bit but thats just what it takes sometime. And im not even gonna štart about voicing, dynaics etc, its unique yet extremely attracting. Thats why i like your coda here (and btw, prbly even B1 too) better even than Zimermans, im serious about that. Youve just somehow mastered this aggressive style thats necessary for these codas, in my eyes. Bravo

I 've played and known this piece all my life and this rendition is right up there imo. Real timing, poise, allowing the music to partake of it's mazurka folk breath, the passion when it arrives is a cascade of electrifying playing. the holding back on the rhythms to hold us in Chopin's emotional 'grip' is scintillating, all driven by a faultless technical ability. Really young man, an achievement you have to be immensely proud of. Well done!

I am noooo where near your level, so I have no right to say this. But watching your hand, you look not tensed at all, that's really really good, I have been trying to get that relaxed of an hand, but when things get difficult I always tence up and some of my finger which arent playing any notes go up. I would really appreciate some advice to tacle this problem!!

I can say it was definitely worth the wait to hear you play the 4th ballade. I can tell your interpretation was a long time in the making, and you invested much time into what came out to be a very heartfelt performance. I've spent quite a few months with the ballade as of now and I'm still figuring out my interpretation.

I couldn't believe the fingering for the beginning measures in my edition was correct until I watched you play. After I watched you play the beginning measures it became easier. I guess I stopped resisting. That really says something about the brain and learning a new piece. Thank you so much for this.
