This is my very favourite execution of this piece, played by one of my very favourite musicians.

He has the left hand so subdued yet it sings under the breath with it's own unworldly melody while the right hand melody gently glistens brightly with magical enchantment. :)

After him It is difficult to listen to others playing Nocturnes. He is so in tune with true melancholy of Shopin, so subtle.

So uncomplicated and calm. The moments of passion are not rushed, which often happens in many performances.

I thought Valentina Lisitsa's interpretation was perfect but Barenboim is so classy and full of character.

I'm not a big fan of Chopin, but Barenboim (whom I'm crazy about!) has convinced me, for the reasons that many of you have commented on below!

That piano is probably the best that money can buy. The man plays it brilliantly - but it sounds too bright, too shiny for the music. That music deserves a sort of sortness, mellowness. Didn't the compser write a 'nocturne'. Of the night.
