It doesn't matter how brilliant our actor's and actresses are it's near impossible to compete with all those Hollywood stars...I think Russell Crowe won our last Oscar for gladiator...
He was an unknown Australian actor, acting in a movie that went basically unnoticed at the time outside Australia about a figure that's obscure outside Australia, he didn't actively campaign for it (a key condition)... Not every good, or even great performance will get an Oscar. If you listen to RU-vid, they should give about 20 best actor Oscars a year. Who cares anyway. The movie's here for you to enjoy.
@@azmanabdula yea mate Chopper is a pisser , but what’s usually regarded as Australia’s greatest movie is ‘Breaker Morant’ with Bryan Brown & Jack Thompson , about Oz soldiers fighting for the British in South Africa during the Boer War Spielberg called it a perfect movie
Vince was in court for driving offences and his lawyer said he was broke and couldn’t pay the fines. The news channel played the no cash here scene. Was hilarious.
@@hb213-k4z I was a total kid the in late 90's selling pirated software to asian crime groups, so I never came across people like Chopper. Haha I'm sure he would have liked my business savvyness.
One of the BEST scenes in Aussie Movie history. Eric is awesome, but Vince was incredible....played the "Lebo"..."wog" perfectly - anyone that grew up around this era knows how realistic this was.....
My name is Neville, and if I had a dollar for every time I've been called Neville fuckin Bartos I would be rich,😂😂 it's just a classic line that every Aussie seems to know, I just generally reply with ' no cash here's😂
- " you are a dead man chopper, you got one foot in the fucking grave - " get in ya fuckin jollywog .. HOSPITAL DRIVER.." that part gets me everytime 😂😂🤣.
I don't know why it took me so many years to watch this movie considering I'm an Aussie and already know so much about the infamous Chopper but decided to pick the BluRay on a whim and was blown away with Eric Bana's performance. Really incredibly well done film even if it can get extremely unsettling a few times.
I was called to look at an appliance at a person's house in Newcastle. After telling the guy that he'd be better off getting a new machine, he asked how much he owed me for the service call. At that moment I also happened to be looking just past him and saw a picture of him and chopper on a wall near the door. I said, "Don't worry mate." Just got the fuck outta there.
The line where Chopper says: ‘sorry Nev I’m embarrassed , very f’ing embarrassed’ *do not underestimate this in the real world. I’ve been in a few tight situations & genuinely proclaimed to be embarrassed (like Chopper) & has saved my ass. Picked it up & run with this since 2002
Eric Bana's performance in this movie was his greatest ever in my opinion, and was in one of the lowest budget films he has ever done. Incredible acting, people have been quoting lines from this movie years after it was made. Iconic lines, that once you say them, every one knows exactly which film you are referring to.
I loved this movie. Saw it at the drive-in. I remember the shock when I found out Bana was playing him. How great things turned out. Time to get a beer or 50 and re-watch lol.
"It defeats the purpose of having shot him in the first place." Still makes me laugh my arse off. Though, if I recall correctly, he did take him to the hospital, to avoid a murder charge.
Only watched it a month ago after finish Mr Inbetween and seeing Mr Scott Ryan cite Chopper, or more precisely, Mark Read as a facet of inspiration. Absolutely loved it. No films like that anymore unfortunately.
Honestly one of the best Australian films ever made. Genuinely hilarious, incredibly dark. We really do make fantastic films in this country, even if a lot of them don't get much acclaim elsewhere.
I’ve watched this movie so many times it’s definitely one of my favourites. Looks like I have to watch it again after seeing this clip hahaha! Love it. These are the days when Australia was great!
"And in fkn Melbourne, there's gonna be a hail, right? A hail of fkn bullets on Neville Bartos's house. "Fkn c'mon Nev, let me in mate, fkn let me in, cmon". "Oh, very rude Chopper, look at me, I'm fkn *BANG!"" Chopper does the weather
I haven't been able to find it online, but about maybe 15 possibly more years ago, one of the Australian TROPFEST short film festival films, called from memory "Chopper" was animated (cartoon) and had almost the same words as used in this clip. Not sure if the words were re-voiced by a voice impersonator but it differs slightly and is very very funny. It was only about a 3 minute short film, so if anyone can find it and place a link here, I'd love to see it again. I watched it originally either on VHS tape or the DVDs you could get of the Tropfest finalists.
Damn remember this from my 20's great film, Eric Bana was great in it. 20 years wow where did they go. My Wife has probably not seen this so its on re-watch list
I know exactly what you mean about time flying past the memories from my teens are still fresh and Im pushing 60 it went past like the blink of a bloody eye....Make the most of it my friend.
