buckinbillyray.com/ This tree I am chopping down with an axe , is damaging our house now, it’s so hot there is a ban on Chainsaws . So I pull out the axes
Glad to see you use the axe head I sent you I just turned “83” years old and use a super sharp cruiser axe for my chopping these days enjoyed the video made my day 🤗
Once convinced a semi intoxicated buddy that he wasn’t swinging the ax hard enough into a pine and thats why he couldn’t get a good bite of wood. It was an 8lb maul. Good times.
Once had an intoxicated buddy chopping a tree down with a machete, I took his machete and handed him another beer and said fuck the tree you’re gonna cut your leg off
The thing about a lighter axe is that kinetic energy is Half the Mass times V-squared. V squared, the velocity is far more important than the mass. If you can swing a pound axe twice as fast as a 6 pound axe, you're putting more energy into the tree and not wearing yourself out to boot. You're a smart man, my friend, keep up the good work!
@@yoman2854 haha it deleted the number 3 before I posted. I meant to say 3 pound axe twice as fast as a 6 pound axe, but sheer kinetic energy isn't the entire battle, there's also blade shape, sharpness, wood type etc. A lot going on really.
Same here. When I’m back home during the work week, I miss the farm and I miss the cabin. I miss the wood stove the most. I spend every free min I got at that place, winter especially cuz I work all summer cutting my wood, and my grandfathers wood, and then in the winter I go down there and just enjoy running the wood stove and scouting the property and keeping track of the deer. Idk what it is but the wood stove is relaxing. I love it, and the work that goes along w it. So yeah, during the week when I’m away from that place, Spending time with Billy fills in the space when I’m away from the farm. The dude just has life figured out in a way that is pretty remarkable. Really admire this dude and his spirit. Truly a legend
Buckin’ your 100% right about those smaller axes, you can swing those suckers all day. I do prefer a full size axe due to my height cause the longer handle is easier on my back.
That was a great video. Using an axe to drop a tree must be the best feeling. Your using all your own strength, no chainsaw. I'm 56 and iv never dropped a tree with an axe. That's on my bucket list 😉. God bless you Buckin 👊❤
I am 66 and when I was 64 I got addicted to splitting wood with an ax and a maul. Fiskars 8 lb maul is my favorite tool of choice. but if someone had told me that after a heart attack and a stroke I would have literally gotten addicted to physical challenge of splitting wood with them all I would have told him they were totally insane that I never done it before in my life my son's always did all those playing wood and we usually use the hydraulic splitter the challenge of splitting red oak and what not with the mall and an accident just it's hard to explain only where I can say is addictive!!!
U sir have gained a subscriber for the inspirational quotes, the go to attitude, the helpful advice, the awesome axe power, and what I hope me n my lovely wife aspire to be.
Hope the young guys hear your words. I get it, I was a tank when I was younger and did the stuff they say you shouldn’t and of course “ don’t worry about it, nothing will happen” and then you can’t walk. You can feel like a man while doing it smart. Learning to walk again is no joke people. It screws with your head pretty bad as well. My wife of 27 years loves my attitude now because of the more peaceful thing I put out. Anger gets you nowhere really when you think about it. I love my manual labor when I can do it, it’s very calming. Sitting in the woods, forest or even and retention pond with a few trees just helps to bring inner joy. Been looking for a beautiful piece of a tree to make a wood ball about the size of a volleyball. It’s something I will use in my meditation. It may sound off putting to some because it was for many years too me, however I imagine the air going in my lungs and the blood running through my veins. This kinda thing I have found to be beneficial too me. Enjoy what’s in front of you folks and give love and help to those around you whether you know them or not.
You also do your own Laundry too! You are all around complete! You amaze us everyday! Yes lung exercises are good at our age any exercise is good and your cardio is amazing already! Breathe in as much as you can and Breathe out till you have no more air and you can feel it in your stomach repeat lol love the taken down that tree with an axe old school good learning for us all! Thanks Buckin❤️
Wow, B.R. You & That Double Got A Good Work Out ! Landed Right Where She Was Supposed To Land ! Hay New Subs & Hi Blues Every 1 Have A Swell Day ! Hugs & Prayers For Bo Bo & Family ! ATB T God Bless
Billy, you are really one of the coolest people I have ever "met". I wish you were my neighbor. I respect, admire and look up to you brother. God bless you and your family.
I really enjoyed this vid. Educational and informative. Satisfying watching the chips fly. The positivity you have in everything you do and your genuine love of your axes and axe work really shows. You just got a new subscriber. Ps.. Your double bit looks like a pleasure to swing.
I love using a 1.75 pound axe on a 24” handle for limbing and other tasks. Super light, easy to control in tight areas, and doesn’t tire you out at all. Easy to pack if needed for the woods etc.
There should be more men like yourself out there Billy Your attitude is Awesome and shows you truly Love what you do! You will never work a day in your life if you Love What You Do! Congrats!
Buckin I believe as we get older we try to hang on to that young man we once were. It’s tough letting go of that. I have really struggled with it as of late. I believe you have grasped it very well sr. I am working on it. Just hate the thought of getting old because I have seen many of my family go from being very strong hard working men to just not being able to get out and go. Scared to death of that happening to me. Every day I try to go as hard as I used to and it hurts when I fail. Just can’t find find the right path to take. Thanks for the encouragement sr. Love to see the double bit axe at work. I have an old double bit from craftsman. It’s a double ring. Love it.
You shouldn't try too hard to push yourself or you'll get hurt. :) You might consider therapy to help you cope. Aging bodily is natural and unavoidable, so the only way around it is through your mind. Mental health is really important.
Looks good and those are some nice axes. Just don't ever forget to take care of yourself. It sometimes seems to interfere with getting things done but we"re only blessed with a short time on this world so let's make sure we can spend it doing what we love and spending it with those we love
God bless you my friend! The very beginning with you doing the wash was actually moving..... Doing simple things for the good of someone else without question is the heart of love, isn't it? My wife and I call it selfless and uncontrollable giving. We are both blessed to have each other, and I know that you and Wendy are as well! Love you all....❤️❤️❤️ Lieutenant Bradley
Felling trees seems so simple yet it’s so complicated. Like thinking about running a bulldozer vs actually doing it. A lot of skill involved. You billy are an absolute animal.
Just wanted to say Thank you for sharing the little things that make people better like the laundry clip, we’re a young family with small kids and a lot of challenges and it’s easy to forget about each other, thanks for the video, Thanks for taking the time, love watching them, my 5 YO Too! Your a good example Buckin, God bless!
You’re so right !! Do you know what you get for being 18 and Bullet Proof if you live, you get to be 70 and full of bullet holes. I appreciate your channel and wisdom. Good job !!!
Ha ha... Luv it I actually make my own mix of ingredients and take the bulletproof coffee to the next level. It becomes a super coffee with grass fed butter etc etc... And yes I was really stupid when i was 14 and shot bullets from a vice with a hammer and nail. The 22cal were fine but when i shot off a 45cal the shell busted and i got shrapnel in the chest. It came out 5 years later. At 66 now and can't believe i could have done something that stupid. But i was never taught about bullets and guns. Had to learn the hard way.
21 days everyone try it out. I know it has helped me a ton. Thank you Buckin for chopping us through the technique you use for choosing down a tree. Very EDUTANING FOR SURE. Nice shot Buckin. Love ya brother. 🌲❤🌲✊🪓
Billy, we all know that tire swing was what brought her down! No, jokes aside, you're right about the smaller axe and I am glad I heard someone else speak to it. I was not a convert until recently when I had 34 Alders and Spruce to process with an axe and hand saw this last fall and the only axe available to me was a 3lb chopper of sorts with a 28" handle. It might be my favorite axe now to do work with, and has also given me a newfound appreciation for other axes
These videos really calm me down before i go sleep I really appreciate that because i have autism and it's hard for me to go to sleep normally I always need something in the background to listen to, and this has become one of the most common channels for that. Thank you. (:
Awesome job bud. In a couple of shots I could see the growth rings. I can’t believe how big they are!! It’s so awesome how great trees grow in British Columbia. It’s just awesome. And your trees grow so tall and straight!! Just beautiful!!! We got eastern white pines that grow 4-6 foot on the stump but they don’t get no where’s near as tall as your trees. And our trees definitely don’t grow as fast as yours. Some day before I die I wanna go to British Columbia and look at your super tall trees. And maybe even cut one just to experience cutting a 200 footer 😮😮. As always buckin and everybody that reads this WORK SAFE!!!!😎😎🇨🇦🇺🇸
"See im having flashbacks right now friends" Billy loves what he does I can feel it threw the video. I do for a living what I'm good at but I dont really love it like him and I want that! Something has to change in the near future. I want that joy he gets per say
Beastmode. That is a big tree. That double is awesome. I broke the handle on my boys axe and picked up a larger fiberglass handle axe. It’s great and I sharpened it real nice but I really liked having that boys axe. Need another handle. Thanks for another great video my friend
Have a lovely 2024 and greetings from Vienna,Austria ! I enjoy your Videos, they helped me a lot, while I discovered the Joy of restoring old Axes. and I'm getting better and better..So much fun. Maybe I find some strange Tyrolian or Styrian Axeheads for you, if you are interested and maybe you might want to help me to find an American Connecticut or Tasmanian Axehead. I I would love to create a French Style handle for it. Anyway, thanks for your inspiring Tutorials and keep on chopping ! Greets,Chris
I just want to spend a week chopping with you, as many trees as I have fell, I feel like I still learn something when I watch your videos. Oh and by the by, my wife can't believe I found someone that has a bigger axe obsession than I. love your videos brother, thanks for sharing your knowledge man, I think that's a failed detail in life we should change so people can learn from eachother how to do a little of everything. Thanks again.
Breathe from your belly. Being a bigger dude, I learned that when I used to play tuba years back. I get chronic bronchitis and my lungs are pretty crackly, but belly breathing opens you up way more.
14:23 Lots of wives are *beautiful* , but this one is also *wise* . "Oh, here we go, he's got his axes out..." *moves to complete opposite of the drop area* =)
That would be hilarious seeing how much longer it would take me to fall that tree by hand... that is a serious swing you have - even the cabinet-in-the-way half swing!! Thanks for sharing... Buckin’ Eh!
Watching the leaves and needles start to drop as the tree was slowly moving was like the buildup in a horror film. It was subtle but it let you know that something was happening.
My grandfather had that double ax. The one you said is for clean up. They split so freaking good but when he passed someone broke in his place an took it.. wish I had that ax again..
just chop the top off the "ivy" tree . it will stop growing its roots under the house, still be a shade and the nesting place for birds for some time. after some years it will deteriorate but you can take care of it then. keeping it around longer without the downsides.
I had to turn down the volume when you were talking about doing your own laundry so my wife didn’t get any ideas! 😁. I do laundry when needed to help out.
I always thought I’d be more patient with age but ironically that has not happened haha thanks for the breathing tip friend- from a fellow shallow breather
