I grew up on a 40 cow 200 acre dairy farm in SO Wisconsin. I remember how much time my mom had Invested in the operation.

We chop corn and alfalfa and we store it in our 120 foot silos so we dont have to pack it or use plastic to cover it. We thousands by not hafting to pack it and cover it with plastic.

We don't do much with rye here in Georgia. Mainly as grazing and a cover crop for the winter months. The grain brings a premium price cause there is normally a shortage cause nobody plants it for grain.

Received my AofC hat, love it. One observation, my head is x large and one size hats work for most people, but this hat is tight. It is adjusted out as far as it can and still stay attached in back. I will make due, but check where you get hats and see if they have a solution. Love your vids, I'm a MI boy born and breed. Love the Dairy Ranch cones in summer, miss that place in Dorr now that I'm living out of state right now. God bless, He is Coming!

Our rye is already pollinating. Have you thought about mixing rye with triticale? Eryk from the 10th generation praises triticale as fodder for cows. You also have plastic for covering so expensive this year.
