Here's the next episode of Chordplay with The Chords Of Heart. Heart formed in Seattle, Washington in 1967 and was cofounded by guitarist Roger Fisher, and while his name may not ring a bell with most guitarists these days, his riffs, licks, and solos certainly will, as he's the player heard on countless 1970s hits from this iconic classic rock group fronted by the Wilson sisters - Ann and Nancy.
This lesson explores some lesser-known chord-based moments from this legendary group, and while you may not know some of the songs we're hitting in this lesson, the chords, progressions, and interesting ideas on display will surely inspire you to not only snag a number of new chord moves for yourself but to also dive a little deeper into Heart's music and the countless great rock guitar moments found on their albums.
Some of the songs featured in this lesson include sections from 'Bebe Le Strange,' 'Heartless,' 'Sing Child,' 'Little Queen,' 'Soul Of The Sea,' and more! So if you're already a Heart fan - get ready, but if you're new to the group or not familiar with some of their obscure '70s material, then grab your guitar and great ready to rock because this lesson is for you!
Give this episode a view, leave some comments/feedback, and please subscribe to Late Night Lessons - THANK YOU!

Way to knock it out of the park right out of the gate. HEARTLESS!!!! Great song and chord choices throughout, killer video. Fantastic choice at the end of the video as well. Soul of the Sea!

Alex Lifeson is another one who pulls out those dreamy open voicing especially going into or out of a solo. Gives a song more depth... beginning, middle, end, feels like you've gone on a little road trip. @latenightlessons, your next series could be called road trip. Highlight songs that have well established movements that draw the listener in with insight about what's happening with opinion about why we love it so.

Dude .. thanks for giving Roger and Nancy’s string work some love The chemistry between them during those years created so much great guitar work …yet for the most part been overlooked/under appreciated by the rock industry thru the years Nancy’s acoustic work on those albums was very inspirational to me as a guitarist Thanks for all the awesome vids Brewster!! rock on …

The band were massive Led Zep fans and those early albums with the combination of folky acoustic and hard rocking numbers are the best for me.

Hi. Great video and thanks for making it. Love your words about bands in the last few minutes, in particular about Heart. Wild Child or There's The Girl or Kick it Out (quite a few other too) are other examples, not played so much on radio but have some mesmerising guitar parts - and awesome vocals. Regards.

Brewster...back in the day, I got a gig for the summer playing in a cheesy band with a girl singer...I had to learn Til Tuesday, Pat Benatar and tons of Heart songs... I’m sure I played half the stuff wrong, but it was a whole lotta fun...Roger Fisher is a beast...remember “city’s burning”??

Awesome as always! One thing I'd offer is that in the upper part of Love Alive (starting at 15:13), I'm pretty certain it's played using arpeggiated harmonics for the 1st G chord (5th fret harmonics) and the D chord (7th fret harmonics) -- check out the album.

Nancy Wilson is a sadly, underrated guitarist. I think a lot of people overlook her, because Heart had both Roger and Howard and there being some stupid idea about RnR being strictly a male thing.

i believe the drama was Nancy and Roger had a falling out with the relationship and then Nancy started dating the Drummer Mr. Derozier causing a lot of drama and that just basically where it went south and he was fired but man i can see how he must have felt because man Nancy is a goddess right? but yeah very fleetwood Mac-ish scenario. on a side not Roger and Mike are friends now and do appearances sometimes well not too recent but you get it.

Why would anyone cheat on Nancy Wilson? 🤦🏻
@Menieres4Life
@Menieres4Life 3 года назад
Heart was Roger Fisher. Leese was part of Mushroom Studios and him and Roger made a great connection with each other while recording Dreamboat Annie. Yes, Roger cheated on Nancy and then she ran to Micheal. Haven’t been able to find it for a long time but there’s video of a Heart concert when Roger gets so angry with Nancy and Micheal that at the end of the one tune he takes off his guitar and throws it to the ground and walks off stage. It was said that was his last show. As far as whether he was really fired or he quit is really up in the air as I’ve seen and heard different remarks made by the Wilson sisters over the years and seems the older they get the more cynical and bashing they get, they’ve even claimed it was their band back in the 70’s. Even Nancy admitted she was a better player in the 70’s but that’s because she had Roger writing and teaching her everything and that proof is in the material. The first 4 albums were and always will be the best for Heart. Oh, and as for Alias, that was the remaining members of the 70’s Heart.

Roger Fisher leaving Heart is like Lindsey Buckingham leaving’Mac. Took a downturn. A different band not popular. The emotional tensions, love triangles, both good and bad were essential to chemistry that ‘made’ the magic of their times. Nancy was had the wondering eye. Had an affair with the drummer. Just like Stevie. I don’t need to echo though you instruction and insight in rock guitar….awesome. If you were around 49 years ago I probably would have failed out of premed and started the high school band circuit.

@@curragh4635 Lol, seriously? Okay, you asked to look stupid, trying to make someone else look stupid - I know, because... things called "interviews", and "videos where Nancy tells us this right to the camera, that she has no idea what she's playing" - oooooh, yes, it's magic, man. Most especially, she said this, about songs like, Mistral Wind...along with others she mentions by name. OBVIOUSLY, she doesn't mean regular chords we all know the names of - even so though, neither are writing with music theory in mind... any more than the any of the Beatles knew what they were doing, technically. Feel better now, Doofus? Do the world a favor, don't have kids.
