His rhythm chops and phrasing on Fair Warning are epic in my opinion. I know everyone ranks VHI as his pinnacle, I think because of Eruption more than anything. But I think he absolutely hit his creative peak with Fair Warning.
I took about two weeks and listened to their entire collection on Spotify… they’re great all the way through. There were a lot of songs I’d never heard! And I especially enjoyed the darker side of Eddie…. Gives you chills.
My experience at a Van Halen show back in 1982 was incredible. Every mouth in the house was hanging open. He played and showed us the most serious rock star $hit I have ever seen. EVH is some kind of super-hero of guitar and music.
Great stuff! Eddie raised the bar for lead and rhythm guitar. Some surpassed his technical skills, but nobody ever came close to writing so much Great music that was both inspiring and innovative with raw emotion you can just feel. He's the reason I picked up the guitar as well.
Thank you! Awesome video again! I am a huge VH fan as well, so I might be biased, but yours is the best channel on RU-vid. What's great is that you don't just take the quick and easy tab approach but always mention the chords and the tuning you are playing in. It is a splendid way to train one's ear and appreciate harmony. Thanks!
It's no secret that Balance is definitely the hidden gem of the Hagar era it's often overlooked but my favorite will always be Fair Warning its just Ed at his best we can keep his spirit alive by playing his music R.I.P king you are sorely missed 👍👏🤘
Thanks Dave...I always centered on Eddie's rhythm playing.Continuously interesting and use of triads in his chords combined with a sinister Marshall tone was the greatest.
Awesome clean playing by Brewster here doing The King justice. all VH albums are just one big album to me. Even the bootlegs lol!!! 🎸Late Night Lessons RulZ!!!🎸
I know a lot of people will disagree, especially prog music hard core fans, but to me Van Halen is progressive. Maybe not the band in and of itself, but Eddie sure is. He was so ahead of its time.
After all these years, i'm still in Love with your Tone. You have the Magic Touch! This was another Fun & Essential lesson. More content on Riffin & Rhythm is highly appreciated.
You are enthusiastic but calm and well spoken when teaching anything, but the moment you start playing especially Van Halen … it’s beast mode!!! 🤘🏻 Rock the F on Dave. We love you.
I’ll never forget me and 3 buddies drove down to an outdoor venue in Virginia to see VH on the Balance tour…the band was on top of their game…the sun was shining, the band was rocking and the beer was flowing….great memories 😎
Thanks for this lesson its great. Hard to pick but my favourite album is OU812. I just love Black and Blue on that album for the great rhythm part, what a great song
Fair Warning is probably my favorite. 5150 will always hold a place at the top since i was at one of the shows when they were filming Live Without a Net in New Halen, CT.
You really gave Eddie his props in this video. Long live the king of rock...EDDIE VAN HALEN !!! I personally don't think anyone has come even close to his innovative writing and playing. There are some great ones out there. NO ONE HAS REACHED THE PLATO OF MR. EDWARD VAN HALEN.
Just discovered your channel today.. First video was Akira Takasaki, my no2 player ever, second vid was John Sykes..My No1 player, barring possibly Petrucci...Rush album on the wall, starwars posters? And great Playing...Subbed. Best get looking through these vids. Kudos dude.
Wonderful lesson Dave , love Aftershock . I think you could pretty much dedicate several lessons to Eddies work on Fair Warning alone So much phenominal rythm work on that one album alone. Thank you.
"Big Trouble" was the 1st VH demo I was to find online in the early '90's using Netscape. The quality was lousy but couldn't believe what I was hearing...the vocal harmonies were unmatched in any of their other songs. 28:20 PLEASE do the ending part of the Big Trouble solo as that lick is the COOLEST PART. It sounds like a typical Ed symmetrical stretch pattern but I'm not able to capture it.
I loved Eddies playing even before I played. He was probably the main reason why I picked up a guitar. When I did start playing he was probably the most influential for me. Randy was probably second. Van Halen II is my fave.
I asked Greg Renoff a couple of years ago, after some really pristine versions of the "Zero" bootlegs were leaked, if Van Halen could have conceivably released a "VH III" in late 1979 early 80 between "VH II" and "Women & Children First". He said, they absolutely could have and it would have been just as good as the first 2 VH albums.
Every guitar player usually says Fair Warning. I think that the original songs on Diver Down are the turning point of Eddie's composition chops. I would say that the original compositions on Diver Down, like the Full Bug and Secrets are the ending of old VH and the starting point of new VH. I won't pick a favorite because I listen to the whole catalog when I drive back to Lexington, KY from Atlanta and vice versa. 😂
Van Halen Specialized in Sus2 and Sus4 SWEEPING ARPEGGIOS which you can hear a swept Sus4 arpeggio in the guitar solo of JUMP and Implying broken triadic phrasing which including Sus2 and Sus4. The Van Halen late 89-94 albums used very dark chord inversions and just unusual chords which you should make a video lesson on.
I'll just give you a 👍 for even pronouncing "balicotherium". I use that full E5 all the time, using my middle and ring ,( dubbing the G with the ring finger). It's so bad ass and full sounding. Thanks B🐓! I miss Eddie 😞
Eddie's rhythm is my favorite part of his playing. The leads are great of course, but IMO the verse rhythm and solo rhythm playing is the part I love the most about him.
Love your stuff! What guitar is that you have? American Strat? Tell us more about that guitar sometime! Never been a genuine Fender Strat guy, but this one is really growing on me...THANKS!
please Mr Dave ..one mic on your guitar amp mixed with the voice will sounds so much better for your awesome playing!! Mr Ed Van Halen lives into all of us🎸🎸🎸from Spain🇪🇸🇪🇸
Oh, man. Can't pick just one album. Van Halen ll always satisfies. Heck, they all do. Check out "Talking Guitar: Jas Obrecht's Music Magazine" channel. Fascinating interviews with Eddie talking guitar.
as much as a fan of EVH that I am how have I never heard Big Trouble... if you had played it without telling it was Eddie, I would've bet it was a John Sykes song...
@@BeantownToBigD He didn’t complain when Gene paid for the Demos and Paid for the band a trip to New York City and gave the Band Money.. I don’t care about your opinion’s
@@samright4661 I replied to you with a smile and you to me? Well, no comment. The facts are in Van Halen Rising and Eruption Conversations with EVH. Simmons forced EVH to overdub. Eddie hated overdubbing. He didn't need to overdub because he was a guitar god who played hybrid rhythm/lead. Jimi Hendrix was the same. VH's first album was produced by Ted Templeman and unlike Simmons' demos, Ted let EVH record with no overdubs as if they were playing live in concert. Usually done in one take too. And of course, nobody complained about Simmons paying all expenses but money has nothing to do with your first comment. Have a nice day. Namaste.
Music is the language in Heaven. Jesus piped and sang passover song Apostles played along to this call and answer masterpiece. In The Hidden Keys of knowledge which appeared to us. The remote generation.
Aftershock guitar was great....lyrics were not good....didn't go with the music...they were not cohesive here...guitar was dark and awesome...felt not happy
