Loved your video!! Thank you for sharing. Some of the ways we handle grumbling and complaining about chores is by discussing why it's important ("we are a team! teamwork makes the dream work!" etc) and the consequence for fussing/whining about a chore is that they have to do one of my chores. I'm also honest with them about not loving chores myself but that it has to be done to help our home run smoothly and I choose a good attitude because it honors God! I think you're doing a great job! And congrats on your new little one!!

Love your honesty, so refreshing to hear a Mum who sounds like me. End of the day chores are hardest for me to stick to too, so Dad has a routine he does. I have realised we ALL work better if morning clean up has happend, so we usually start tradition subject learning at 10am. I consider the chores part of the lesson plan, subject heading ' Being a human' 😆. I can concentrate better and not feel distracted by the other "things" to do, if it is sorted. Thanks for the post.

My kids get the morning chores done pretty well. Just need to do a better job in doing our five minute Round Up before we go to bed. I will set a five minute timer and each child picks up in either the family room, living room or shoes. It makes me feel good in the morning when the house is tidy.

I love the idea of setting a timer!

I have found that my children throw fits about chores when we haven't been consistently doing them *almost* every day. If my children are expecting free time to play after breakfast (like I had let them do the previous day) and I announce they need to clean the living room, it totally sends a dagger through them and they feel so offended. I have tried warning them the night before and that helps a little, but the best thing is to just keep expecting it and don't get lax.

YES!!! Consistency! Good reminder!

These videos are so great! Get the little one working with the rest of them too! They love it at a young age, and it helps to make it a habit when they are enjoying it. We really appreciate your philosophy on chores! That's so important to remember!

This was so incredibly helpful. I’m so thankful I listen to this I’m actually going to listen again. I have an only child but I’m a messy person by nature and I just related so much to so many things that you shared that you just give me so much hope I’m almost in tears. I always had the messy room growing up and I feel like from watching your videos I feel like you run a pretty tight ship and it gives me hope that that’s possible for me too. And I never grew up with like routines either and that’s why I struggle. I’m addition to ADD been pretty challenging for my whole life. I love the quote you shared from Mother Teresa that speaks volumes and makes so much sense and I know it will touch my daughters heart because she’s such a sweetie and loves to do things for people that she loves. I’m totally going to look up this homemaker course by Misty Winkler that you mentioned I’m very excited about that. My home office is a lovely room that I am blessed to have because many people don’t have one and it was so messy that I was literally using our dining room table for a desk and I hated it because it seemed messy in our main living space all the time and then I would have to move everything for family meals and then things would get shoved in a basket to try to make it look tidy to eat and I would like misplace something or not get something taken care of. And yesterday I left my sister a message and I said please say a little prayer I’m tackling the office today. I told her I have garden things that need to be tended to and peaches to deal with and beans to picking corn to cut off the cob and freeze in the lawn needs to be mowed and the list was really long but I told her I felt like cleaning my office was the number one most important impactful thing I could do for my family so that we can have that peaceful feeling and I could relate so much to what you said about not having to move mountains to have people over. We wanted to have our good friends out to play in our amazing outdoor mud kitchen and just be at our farm and experience all the things that little city kids don’t get to do and I felt like all summer my house is too messy and disorganized to even have them over and they love us and wouldn’t judge but it’s hard on my heart. Anyways my sister left me a message back and she said that God is a God of order and it’s biblical for us to do work so that we can enjoy leisure and that things need to be orderly for our minds and I know that like the clutter and mess around my house contribute to my attention issues. And when it is clean and I walk in it has this instant bit of calm feeling to me so I know that it’s really important and it’s just killing me as a mother that my daughter is growing up with messages because I feel like that’s wiring her that it’s OK and it’s not. And I have these dreams of having fellowship and sharing my love of the Lord with others and inviting people for tea and just havIng the extended family for game nights. Yet it doesn’t happen because I never feel like things are tidy enough. Trust me I’m not going for magazine perfect I’m going for tidy and lived in where we can just share fellowship or have somebody knock at the door and invite them in and put on a pot of coffee instead of rushing outside to visit so they don’t come in. Anyway thank you. This was so helpful and hope filled foe me

I play Disney music during our chores. Best change I ever made: So for my kids, once they are done with their chores they are allowed to watch a show while I make dinner. But if they call me to check their chores and I find they have not completed them to the standard I know they are capable of, they lose their TV privilege. Amazingly they all do their chores correctly the first time now instead of me checking over and over again and each time pointing out something else. Saves me so much time!

We love listening to mary Poppins original soundtrack. The sound of music with Julia Andrew's. Also just some fun cleaning songs like from snow white and the Disney movie enchanted also has a tidy up song. Makes it SO much more enjoyable! Thanks for the video. Chores are a struggle in our homeschool too! But like you said little by little!

Such great tips! I have two kids and trying to not let them ever keep a messy room like I was allowed to. Do you have any folk song recommendations? We don’t play or know of any but I really want to start that in our homeschool!

I always put on bing crosby playlist on Alexa when I’m baking and cooking in the kitchen. So when we clean, we actually put on classic rock haha. I love all types so I like to change it up based off what we are doing and Charlotte Mason says to do a playlist for the kids so they can recognize when cleaning time is almost done and time is ending. I haven’t tried that yet but I do know music helps. It also can hype the kids up too much so there’s a time and place for sure. Thanks for sharing!!
