Fascinating take on Carrie the Musical, right now I'm reading The Long Walk by "Richard Bachman" and I'm wondering how Stephen King believed he could fool anyone if he made Ray (the main character) from Maine.

I'll actually be doing a full episode proper devoted to the musical and other various adaptations later this season, but couldn't resist talking to Chris with his new book coming out. Lol I never thought of that but you're absolutely right 😀Although maybe back in the 70s he just figured nobody would notice

@@TheStephenKingdom There's a whole character establishing of Ray as Maine's golden boy on the walk and I was reading it thinking Stephen, you can't help yourself! I'll definitely give Carrie a try after I'm done with The Long Walk, so I can follow along with your show.

I’ve been obsessed with Carrie for YEARS!! I’ve been a fan of Linzi and Betty for just as long! I love this musical! Some of the songs are so dramatic and wonderful but some of the less “popular” songs are great too! For example, Sue’s song It Hurts To Be Strong and the company’s song, Don’t Waste the Moon. I feel the major downfall was the sets and costumes, I mean most of the time Chris was dressed like a slutty Solid Gold Dancer and the whole Out For Blood number with the shirtless guys in leather pants… 😱 I will always prefer the original score and show compared to the new rewrite. And quite honestly… no one will ever be able to hold a candle to Betty and Linzi’s performances. It’s funny what is deemed a success from critics and what not and what is told to us as being horrible and a failure. I would much rather sit through 100 performances of Carrie than one performance of Hamilton or Rent or The Lion King.

The circumstances that ended up being the downfall of Carrie are truly devastating when you realize how successful and legendary of a musical it _could_ have been at the right place and right time (granted, the publication of the book almost took the same journey). It's a damn shame. But at least there are people like yourself and Chris that keep the spark alive for this cursed masterpiece!
