I read through Carrie in hours, very fast. It was an easy read but a horrific one. I did see the movie before. One of the most terrifying scene... covered in pigs blood .. and her staring. Sissy was the PERFECT 👌 casted actress.
Such a fast read, but a really effective horror story in spite of its shortness. And none of the remakes have ever been able to touch the power commanded by Sissy onscreen. Brilliance
This story has haunted me since i read it. Sometimes I think, "what if the afterlife is like the jaunt? The reason sentient life cannot know what lies beyond life is because if it knew the horror that awaited it, the mind would snap" That's cosmic horror :)
When Jerry Garcia died and went to heaven and he walked into a room where there was Elvis and Buddy Holly and a bunch of other famous musicians getting ready to sing. Upon seeing them he exclaimed " Allright there is a rock and roll heaven". And Elvis replied " You call this heaven ?'. And suddenly Karen Carpenter storms in and says " OK you guys. we're gonna do Close to You fifty more times untile we get it right ! "
Not trying to shame anyone here for using water, just spreading awareness that not everyone is as fortunate depending on where they live. Sure, 2/3rds of the planet is covered in H20, but only 0.5% of that water is actually accessible, usable fresh water. And when it's being polluted, hoarded, and used irresponsibly, it puts many populations at risk. Just something to consider...
Thanks! Once we started down the rabbit hole of movies with fire, the song basically wrote itself. We probably could've done three more verses but that felt a little too self indulgent lol
Secrets of Sulphur Springs is a fun time travel / paranormal series that she stars in -- highly recommend. She also does a great job in Fall of the House of Usher if you haven't checked that one out yet. Hoping she just keeps sailing onward and upward!
Just finished Gunslinger (because it was on the library shelf and I didn't know about the Sisters of Eluria) and felt a little meh about it. I definitely feel vindicated after hearing your and Bev's comments on it!
I feel like Bev calling it a "stumbling block" for people is an understatement, it's a full on roadblock. But it's worth pushing through to get to the good stuff
He's such an interesting and super knowledgeable guy, and he's been a major help in doing research on the series. I'm with you there -- can't wait to get my hands on whatever book he's working on next...
It's really amazing how many literary legends he's gotten to work with through this venture -- such a cool enterprise, especially for those of us who dig this kind of pulp fiction.
While I hope it never happens to you .... if you ever get to 'enjoy' sleep paralysis, you'll understand the terror of the jaunt time the story describes firsthand. Longer than you think, indeed 8-O
I remember that happening in realtime and I truly thought Twitter was going to have an aneurism. Stephen has his own brand of sass, but god help anyone who crosses Tabitha. That woman can wield the English language like Excalibur
I found King when I was 11 and had to stay at my mom's office a couple days being sick from school. They gave me an empty office across the hall from her and I curled up under the desk with a misspelled book on cats I found on the bookshelf. I finished Pet Sematary in the next two days and began sneaking his books into my backpack to hide behind textbooks during class. I got caught multiple times. Know why? I kept laughing out loud. The beginning of Cujo had me crying and peeing myself all the way to the principal's office. I don't think I have to explain why I went to the guidance counselor next. F 'em. I learned more from his books than I did in class. This was really cool. I agree with all your points on his work and widespread appeal. Thank you sai King for the thousands of ways you saved me from true life horror and made me smile then and now.
I can't think of better life lessons for the horrors of this world than losing yourself in the pages of King's novels. Whoever left that copy of Pet Sematary behind for you to stumble upon is a true saint. Long live the King!
Rape revenge movies have long been a favourite of mine. From Ms 45 to Big Driver and The Seasoning House, its a fun and very cathartic genre, for survivors and non survivors alike.
I am glad that I checked this out. I have a horror scene in the novel that I am working on and I needed to hear you read that scene. Stephen King is definitely on of the best writers and that section was near-perfect, but I still have no interest in reading any more Stephen King that what I already have.
Thanks Melanie! I try to walk that line between having an irreverently good time while also not being afraid to break it down and get real. And I feel like King's writing really paves the way to be able to do that. Glad you're enjoying the series!
The mallet honestly makes it more extreme in my opinion. Maybe its because dismemberment is so overplayed in modern horror and thrillers but the way the ankles snap is so much more visceral.
