this is probably the best rendition I've heard of this song in many, many years. The combination of Veronica Swift and Christ Botti is sheer brilliance. This young vocalist is well worth watching as her star rises.
This is more than a nice song. This is one of the great moments in recent jazz history, featuring a vocal superstar and a superb trumpet player and his ensemble. Chris Botti's concerts are always incredible.
Every year that passes on she gets better and better. Saw her first in 2018 at the Blue Note in NYC and her artistry has matured so much. God bless you, Veronica.
Extra ! Magnifique !
Were you paid to write that? Otherwise hard to really comprehend. Are you a musicologist that we are unaware of? Besides being a truly “ unique “ opinion- it might be a mild disservice to all the? Hundreds of truly brilliant singers who she seems to have assiduously and honorably studied and borrowed from. Nice rendition. Band supported her carefully with intention.
Just left Chris’s concert with Veronica and other guests OMG!!! Words do not describe how FANTASTIC this concert was!! Before going I thought it would be too much trumpet for me but no , the show was multi dimensional . Just FANTASTIC!
You must have been at show in Galveston like me ! She really blew me away! Yes the whole show was very diversified! Not all Botti who was so generous to his guest artists !!
Chris Botti est régulièrement accompagné de très belles femmes avec soit une belle voix soit un violon exceptionnel. Le duo est généralement magnifique.
As much as I adore Anita O'Day's swinging & witty interpretations of standards and am consistently blown away by the subtle soul of Lady Day, Veronica Swift is really something else! I actually feel Chris Botti did her a disservice by comparing her to them. Veronica's ear & command of her vocal gifts to deliver breathtaking unique performances of timeless lyrics & melodies is a marvel. Hope everyone here buys her latest album as of 2021, This Bitter Earth. I betcha you won't regret the purchase!
Actually we shouldn't be comparing. Unfair. All in their own particular class. This girl is good. But performance not short of shortcomings. Not much clarity on those higher notes. What do we do next? Compare her to Ella? Please no!
Some people like Billie and Anita are song stylists , their voices have limitations but they find a way to create beauty . Ella and Dinah had chops. They could do everything!! Why are we comparing such great vocalists ?? Just listen to who you like to listen to. They are all great and we should be very grateful that we have a Veronica Swift and a Samara Joy to listen to in this day and age.
She's the best in town right now. I missed her when she sang in Marciac festival in South of France, tickets sold before I had a chance. The godd fairies Ella, Billie and Sarah watched over this beautiful soul
What about my absolute favourite.... Anita Oday... to me, she's the quintessential jazz vocalist. That special voice with her unique interpretation of every song, that if I'd listened to her, with eyes closed, I would've thought, that a new instrument, had been invented, because of that voice, that fitted in so well, with the musicians. But.... that was THEN.... that era. This lovely young singer, is the new now.
Veronica Swift is a national treasure, she is the perfect singer and she is the highest echelon of jazz vocalists. I just wish Jack Sheldon or Chet Baker was in Botti’s spot. I don’t dig Botti’s over engineered sound. And I am not a fan of his choice of notes. It is very acceptable but Jack and Chet pulled notes down from the heavens!! Very hard to compete with that. Both of them are missed. What a breath of fresh air Veronica is.
Really, "National Treasure". ... Never heard of her until this "presented" on my RU-vid algorithm. Still, the performance is ok... but not "National Treasure" caliber... sorry, it's just average.... Of course, Chris Botti "carries the day" ... as always... as always..
OHH VERONICA ! About 20 times i watched her performances ,and she perfected the voice to become another rainbow of tunes , mamma mia , ragazza , beautiful girl she puts the seal of what jazz is all about ! It is about time to bring Veronica on a complete concert surrounded by all the greatest that had invited her to their shows ! 100 times thank you Veronica , you are wonderful professional !
Damn!! She's Great in more than 1 way😊!! I'm a retired fish pathologist, and very active as a freelance, science & outdoor writer. And presently a fishing guide (in the supernaturally-beautiful Pacific Northwest)!! My clients and I target 4 species of pacific salmon + Steelhead ( a large Sea-going rainbow trout), Resident rainbow trout, Brown trout and Char species (Dolly Varden/Bull trout, Brook trout), in the supernaturally-beautiful Pacific Northwest!! And I'd guide for free anyday😉.
Chris, Thank you for the great concert today in San Diego/Escondido! We really enjoyed every member of the orchestra, wonderful singers and amazing you! 😍
Fantastic everybody!... But can I point something out? Taylor Eigsti on Piano & Joey De Francesco (RIP) on Organ... Two incredible monsters of their instrument in perfect sync.
Japanese enka singer Aya Shimazu, who sings aretha franklin's "think," was also very impressed when she attended her concert at the Cotton Club Tokyo the other day. I would have liked to have been there myself, but due to work commitments, I was unable to make it.
