@guitarran: You would be right if the exercise was in the key of G minor. The exercise, however, is in the key of D minor. It just starts on G minor (4th scale degree). He does however, change the key to G minor at the very end by turning the D minor into D7 (V of IV (not V of V)) and ending it on G minor. At least, I'm pretty certain that's how he's approaching this.
@guitarran I was wrong, I was thinking it was g minor although it is indeed in d minor. So the neapolitan chord for d minor is certainly Eb maj -- opps.
@blogtvpunk Yeah it would prevent him from doing pinch harmonics. I have a thumb pick similar to his but the attaching part is not completely around my thumb so I can rearrange the thumb pick to the way I hold a regular pick.
@AnnaAnnaYes he is very good with wood in his hands haha but its actually pretty easy. the fretboard comes off if you soften the glue, then you use the old one as a template, mark the frets, route, glue it on and set in the frets. the only problem you can have is that rosewood crack fairly easily but if your slow and gentle, youll do fine
@AnnaAnnaYes they only do customs for endorsees. they dont have a public customs shop. however, an rg550 is pretty much the exact same guitar but with no grip and no lions claw. and most rg550's have maple fretboards :/ they have the rg550r which is rosewood but theyre not as common
@IamCucumbers You are confusing figured bass notation with popular music notation; the neapolitan chord is often in first inversion (but not necessarily) and the notation "Db 6" is the figured bass notation for a first inversion chord. The neapolitan in the the key of C would be a Db major chord with an F in the bass and a Db and Ab above (in whatever order and with doubling permitted, though Bach often avoided doubling the third in first inversion triads).

Thanks to all for comments. The 7 just looks so cool with the upside down headstock. And the white color is perfect. Plus, no big dumb hole in the body like a Jem. Ibanez really needs to release a Jem with no grip. Just give the player the choice whether to have one or not. It really says a lot that CB only takes this guitar and a S backup on tour. Only two guitars for major shows, how hardcore is that? That speaks volumes about the stability of that guitar. And the player! Best to all.
Yeah, I can't finger tap worth a damn, but I developed the technique of muting the strings I don't want with my left hand while I play, since I don't have a noise gate. It gives a nice percussive texture too. If something like that would interest you, I recommend checking out John Frusciante's pieces on here.
@sk8orDie2431 it's Chris' own invention he calls a pick slip. basically just a ring that you can slip any regular guitar pick into. he made it so he could do his crazy 4 finger tapping sections without having to dispose of his pick. I want one fo sho.
wow, that bridge is weird. i mean the bridge itself isnt but on most of the rg's and variations of the rg's have edge trems (edge III, edge pro, edge zero, original edge, lo-pro edge) but that one has the ZR trem. those are only on the S series guitars. thats cool as hell
@IamCucumbers Most people consider a Db major 6 chord to have a Bb in it (i.e. an added 6th), while a Db neapolitan chord definitely does not contain a Bb. You also said it is in first inversion, which it can be, but isn't required to be. Maybe because we can't use superscript on youtube it's difficult to distinguish chords written in figured bass notation, but you certainly aren't helping by calling it "major 6". Is it paraphrasing to clarify those two points?
@AnnaAnnaYes no.theres much more to do (theres a jem monkey grip, hes putting more rosewood on it, maybe making a rosewood or leather pickguard, things like that) and no only is he far from done but i havnt had contact with him in about 2 weeks (i dont live with him :/) so i cant post any haha
@XSDarkMoonZX @guitarran In Chaos Theory #3 Broderick says he is in G minor, and says D7 is the V chord, so I wonder if he himself is a little turned around; the Ebmaj7 sounds diatonic to me and I hear that D7 as a half cadence and not V7/iv. Also a little strange that he says "sequence of fourths" rather than a four note sequence.

@swill9000 probably since he has a lot of fans, I think the condition to get a sig Ibanez is to sell certain quantity of CD's , but yeah, You could by an RGA prestige 7 for now :D I don't think a Chris Broderick Sig will be much cheaper
@deathcore1239 Hey death! You are correct sir! I truly feel the JEM is in the top 5 guitars in the world. That's why I wish I could get one without the hole. Maybe Steve will make one like his 7 string (that he never plays anymore) with a swirl and no grip. Now that would be sweet. I played the Bad Horsie too and that is awesome. The mirror seems to give it a unique tone. I saw one guy who filled the whole with wood putty and repainted it. It looked perfect. Best to all.
@Chrisguitarplayer666 he has a little pick-clip on his thumb so that it doesn't fall off. think he's trying to work out something so that it gets out on the buyers market soon :P
@XSDarkMoonZX Honestly I really wasn't paying that close attention. My bad, I normally don't comment so reactively. I did remember him saying something about starting on or with a g minor arp in the 3rd video installment so thats probably why I was thinking g minor. @pijpok Which is the difference between Eddie and Chris.. EVH doesn't have all this planned out stuff.. it came straight from the heart.. which is the what makes someone unique because your not playing a set pattern that anyone else with a music theory background can play.
@jerm26554 Well Chris is a different kind of player, so...you can't really compare him to Vai or Satriani. Have you heard his classical pieces though? I'm sure that's pleasant listening, for me that never gets old. Oh and please tell me that you don't honestly believe that Chris doesn't play 'outside the box'? He's going all over the place man. To each his own I guess.

@0ZAZU i'll give you that there was often more anticipation and overall excitment for the spots where mustaine would do a solo, but sitll... better? how do you define better? at this point i know it's merely opinion, but i'm sitll curious. for me, Marty's solos were always more tasteful, cleaner, and had much better phrasing. again, it's fine if you prefer dave's solos, but I feel like saying he couldn't upstage dave is unjustly misrepresenting marty's guitar work in megadeth.
