I would suggest you put a mesh screen in those scoops it would make them look so much better. I like them though but at the same time you want to keep the vintage look right, so maybe not. Looks good man. We all make mistakes its all part of developing our skills. Masking tape is the only way to go to prevent less sanding and prep work! That's what they do in many trades especially body work! as I said, looks good.
I'll probably screen where it enters the deck to keep stuff out, but not at the opening of the vents. I will be polishing them and painting the inside to match the boot stripe.
@@glassgoat9601 Probably.. as you move across the surface of the boat, the air bouncing back up probably plays havoc with it.. especially when you are so close to the surface.
Yeah, when you see the later Sea Skiffs with the aluminum windshields they just don't have the same look. It is also the reason that I am not making the windshield hinge upward like the Lyman does for ventilation, it would ruin the look. I am still planning on adding the side vents though.
Scott amazing how the boat is starting to take shape and you can see how beautiful it will be when completed. The stain and varnish really make it pop! Great job!
Wait. So, 50% Epifanes for first penetration coat and then Total Boat Lust for build coats or ALL Epifanes? No sanding with Lust if you lay coats quickly, yes?
I’m using epifanes until the last coat or two when I switch to a satin or matte finish. I didn’t have any gloss total boat varnish and gloss is necessary for initial and build up coats. You are right about the Lust on the sanding I think. If I was doing a boat that had more areas finished bright, like my Lyman, the need for sanding would be more of an issue.
@@glassgoat9601 I am in the midst of sanding and revarnishing the toe rails, rub rails and various woody bits aboard my 50’ sailboat. So, not having to sand between coats is a BIG deal. I have always done the Epifanes method and hope that the TB Lust will come close. I really enjoy your videos. The editing pace (music etc.) is really first class. Thanks!
