Shame the Radio only tunes into 6 channels though, I would have thought Porsche could fit a better one given the amount of money they're charging for the car! And what is Channel R anyway? They really haven't sorted that part of the car properly.
@@MGA19a It looks so easy because it is... for him. He's spent untold thousands of miles looking out the side window polishing off someone else's tires in the pursuit of "sliding perfection!!" Their styles are dramatically different but Chris and Harry Catchpole, in my opinion, are about the best reviewers I've seen on videos recently. They're both very informative and have easy going personalities that are really pleasant to watch. Harry just seems to look out the front windscreen a little more often. ;^)
You can keep the GTR and Z06, the flappy paddle gear boxes, all the 0-60, horsepower and laptime pissing contests. I'll be happy with the mid-engine, naturally aspirated Cayman GT4.
+Ghos7N54 I know, right? It's amazing how so many noobs, after gaining real world experience, never really became enlightened. They're still noobs. This car is just about perfect.
Tomskii5 They aren't different at all. Both are track focused but the GT4 is more so focused on the driver than the Z06 is. Don't think the Z06 has adjustable aero both front and rear along with different suspension settings.
dave dunn go to his vid on the merc gt and click the link in his comment to donate a few bucks per month. That's how we are gunna keep this kind of quality video going! Also turn your adblock off for his videos if you have it.
Stop being little imbeciles with your little ad block you people have the attention span of a goat, the reason they have ads is so that channels don't have to do what /drive did and go to a paid subscription because they just weren't making enough money off of the ads so man up and watch the Damn ads 90% of them have a skip anyways
***** Yes I see your side of the argument and I agree I would love an ad free internet, but if you try to incorporate the ads into the show you end up with shows like hot rod garage where every minute they take a break for a company to say how wonderful their product is and then you get people who don't like the show anymore cause every minute there is a new ad then people go to the comments section and rant about how many ads there are and why they will never watch it again
So glad that you were the first to experience this little monster. What an exciting Porsche product and what I am guaranteeing will be the most pure car released for quite some time. Thanks for sharing Chris
Aye such a nice car, plus the looks and base chassis is spectacular, even the earlier models. Having a Cayman, then getting one of these would be awesome then doing light mods from there (small turbo). So much potential.
I'm 37 years old and have been driving a manual since the age of 14 and I still can heel and toe but I can rev match, so I've got some practicing to do, left foot braking is difficult as well.
It took me a long time to get the hang of it - track days helped, and when I got a new car that had a much more sensitive throttle and less sensitive brake pedal that made it so much easier to do smoothly as well
I get to drive an E92 M3 I don't own from time to time. It's a manual and I really wish I could heel-toe properly, because its nigh on impossible to grab 2nd into a hairpin smoothly otherwise. It's hard, especially trying to practice on public roads!
I realise the 991 is a touch lighter than the 997, but its still a bit bulky. Perhaps my choice of words wasn't really appropriate. It isn't the weight really, just the overall increase in size. The 911 now looks enormous.
Agreed, I saw a 991 parked next to a 964 the other day and the new car looked positively obese and completely lacking in character, while the older car looked like a tight, light and sweet. 911s have generally always looked good, but don't park new ones next to old ones, the old ones just outshine anything that isn't from the same era. Even though I'm not really a Porsche fan, I like all nice cars and this Cayman GT4 looks like a really nice car!
Just sad they won't put a GT3 engine or anything really powerful into it otherwise they could create something close to their heritage instead of SUVs and shit. In that case I wouldn't care if they name it GTover9000, in this case I am a bit disappointed really. Maybe the V8 from the Panamera/Cayenne would do the trick if put into a 911 or a new chasis not bigger than it.
I'm pretty now that I am now 100% convinced that this is the most desirable car in Porsche's entire lineup. Seriously you can forget the Turbo or GT3 even or the 918, I love the aggressive and race car look, the perfect 6 SPEED MANUAL, and honestly my mind can only imagine how much more fun this car must actually be. I will dream on for sure but seriously there is so much want I can't put it into words.
Ray Spijk First off I'm talking about car guys who actually buy cars for reasons other than it being and looking expensive. Second sales numbers have nothing to do with desirability. You see more practical sedans and SUV's compared to two seater sports car? No you don't say?! Of course you see more Panameras and Cayennes vs. Caymans most families can't afford to have a Cayman because of size, price, or practicality, that doesn't people don't want to have one, they desire it but just can't get it.
What a fantastic video Chris and Neil - absolutely superb as they always have been. I, along with many others I'm sure, really appreciate the technical information in these videos that we just never get from anyone else. Not only that, but the writing is spot on and the camera work is just epic. Thank you for sharing your passion with us, and I hope you can keep bringing us these wonderful pieces of automotive pornography for many years to come.
Great video ! Love the fact that you can find some nice driving and some technical stuff as well. I could listen to Andreas Preuninger for hours ! This man is a legend ! Keep up the good work
Yet another absolutely fantastic review. You are by far my favorite automotive reviewer on RU-vid or TV. Thank you for the free channel. As a RU-vidr with my own math channel I understand the importance of supporting the ads on your favorite channels...and I do:)
This video just popped up in my feed so I watched it again with the perspective of the time that has passed. I have to say, I miss these videos. While I love what Chris has been doing since, these have a quality and enthusiasm that I'd like to see again.
I love this car. I think it looks amazingly good and the sound is exceptional. To me, the Z06 doesn't look quite as good. People might say this car isn't as powerful as the Z06 but who cares. It's all abou the experience. Modern sports cars and entry level supercar are getting so fast it's not even usable on a more scenic road. 385 bhp is well enough to go at a quite decent pace and still have fun, not being scared shitless because of the speed you're actually going.
Was good chatting with you in Geneva on Porsche's booth during the press day, Chris :-). Great review as always! Can't wait for your track test of the new GT3 RS, please bring it soon!
Excellent presentation, Chris! That track was gorgeous, and getting to see the mechanical bits under the car with the German engineer behind them was the extra mile. Cheers, bud! Keep up the good work.
German dude speaking a 2nd language (English) talks about cars better than some of the recent women hired by car manufacturers for promotions and taught car-speak.
I watched this and bought it last December. My Trackdays now are full of joy and confidence. I love the car and the review! Thank you Chris Harris and Porsche!
What a car! What a review! Thank you for your professional videos. I love your in depth look at things we don't normally see in a review anywhere else. You're the absolute best at what you do.
Arrrghhh. This car is awesome. Right now, the perfect Porsche for the price bracket. When will Porsche just admit times have changed, and make the Cayman their flag-ship model? I mean come on, imagine a Cayman with that almost mythical 4.0 L motor from the 911 GT3 RS 4.0 (awesome and rare car in itself)? Handling-wise, everyone knows this, the Cayman has the engine in the right place vs. the 911 when it comes to having the engine behind the driver. Porsche please, just say you're ushering in a new era. The 911 dominated the 20th Century GT classes. But for the 21st Century, the 911 is taking that flag and handing it over to the Cayman. The new flag-ship, with the best motors, best transmissions, best suspension, etc. Basically all the attention paid to making a better 911 now paid to making the Cayman better as the years go by.Yes, there's tradition. But there's also a time to let go. Innovate. The Cayman is a no-brainer.
Chris would be the only one good enough to fill Jeremy's shoes. Sorta, Jezza can never be replaced but I think he has the charisma to keep the show rolling.
Marketing of the GT4 is quite ingenious on Porsche's part. Many accused Porsche engineers of intentionally holding back on the Cayman's performance for fear of getting to close to the 911. Porsche solved this conundrum with the GT4 for the following reasons: 1) GT4 costs the same as a base 911. 2) GT4 is manual-only. Thus, 911 owners should no longer feel threatened by a cheaper Cayman outdoing the pricier 911 because the most hardcore version of the Cayman is now super expensive and comes only with a manual, which removes the Cayman from the radar of most new 911 owners (because many of them can't drive stick). Both parties of hardcore enthusiasts and 911 loyalists are ultimately left satisfied with the introduction of the GT4, and Porsche is saved from whining owners. Win-Win-Win.
Talk to BBC Chris, I hear Clarkson's job at Top Gear may be available. You are probably the only credible and well liked motoring journalist who could fill his shoes. Id watch it more if you were at the helm.
Say what you want, but I think that's what i'd go for if I were looking for a porsche. The newer 911's are getting big and bloated. This is more to the roots of the older cars, smaller and more agile. Less power, sure, but you don't need a million HP to have fun. Edit: I like how Porsche is giving the cayman more of a presence in the lineup instead of purposely gimping it so it doesn't cannibalize 911 sales. Granted there is a bit of a gulf between prices on the two but still, i'll take a sharp handling, nimble and light car over a big bruiser of a car with eleventy horsepowers any day.
Thanx God the still producing manual.. I think this is the best "volkporsche" on a line at the moment. Era of true motorsport is coming to end.. Thank you Chris, again and again. My favorite englishman)
Quite small probably. As Chris said in the video, it wouldn't make much sense for Porsche bringing the Cayman even closer to the GT3. Tuners might do it though, as it wouldn't be too expensive to make the GT4 do similar laptimes to the GT3
tubesforme99 it looks amazing, like truly stunning. It comes with a 6 speed manual, as opposed to the 7 speed manual in the 991.1 911 (dunno about the 991.2, but they haven't released new 718 gt4 yet), it's more than quick enough, and cheaper than a base 911
you can change the final drive gear that will shorten all the gears, losing overall top speed but increasing acceleration and placing those longer gears in a more common range.
mcomet the front and rear differentials have a final drive gear called the "ring and pinion" that can be swapped for taller gears (higher ratio) that will ultimately change the overall gearing for all gears.
Great review Chris, as always ! Can't wait to see your review on the GT3 RS ! You are by far the best car journalist and also my favorite with the best car reviews on RU-vid ! Cheers !
Why You always drive Sideways?? Is this a Driftchallenge?? Is this the STyle to Drive in the new Century?? I don't understand this "Style" of Driving on a Racetrack. Drive fast Rounds! You ONLY Ruin the Tires, Greats from Stuttgard Hometown of PORSCHE

Hey Chris and Neil, Great video as always. Love the driving and presenting, camera work and editing. If Top Gear is done then this will definitely be my number 1 automotive program! Maybe you can get the boys on your youtube show?? ;) Hopefully you can come to Australia to do a longer test of the HSVs and FPVs! Great work, keep it up
I can safely say that this is my dream car now. I really hope I get to try one of these in the following years. And as always from you guys, fantastic video.
THANK YOU Chris! These reviews are just pleasure to watch. Everytime! Was Neil behind the camera this time? And does he also the editing? Big shout out to him too! Looks flawless.
As I am working in the automotive supplier industry partly for Porsche AG and being in contact with a lot of people in RD-Departments I got to say, Andreas Preuninger is one of the most sympathic and enthusiastic Engineers I have seen so far. And trust me there is a lot of counter-examples in this industry... I never met Mr. Preuninger personally, but I've seen a lot of interviews showing him as a person who is able to be relaxed, contagiously enthusiastic and at the same time very precise and focused. Porsche should be very glad to have him especially being in charge of their GT-Division. Thumbs up for that guy! :)
Chris .... There is a reason people say your the best in the business. I love your reviews Both the good and the bad ! Thanks and great job ... I haven't been this excited about a car in 26+ yrs, I feel like a kid again :-)....now I just have to hope I am going to get one ... I sure have tried hard enough .... but we will see Best regards
Great stuff. I want one. I guess like many of us I admire your work and no bs style of presenting. I often wonder if you could also add a separate video with just an on board sound ( no commentary ) for a few laps.
