Farah has tried time and time again to make a car channel that makes it big, they do interesting cars, its all there, but HE is impossible to like, no manners, crude, arrogant, fat, all things people don't want to watch, quite the opposite of Chris, the standard well mannered and humble Englishman (if its all an act, well, he does a good job acting then)
We believe you Chris. The onboard footage shows you continually adding more steering lock to the left and the car still going right. Tuff luck, but you handled it like a man.
Yes, he's turning left, but the car wants right. There didn't seem to be any huge thing to cause it, though. No huge jarring pothole or anything that I noticed.
You can clearly see the steering wheel shudder as the wheel loses its control arm. It seems, therefore, like a stress failure rather than some discrete impact
Basil Kehoe-Parsons you can’t it will happen eventually no matter how good you are. Just gotta look on Te bright side that you da you didn’t roll or just go 60-0 in something solid is a good day
It’s rally, you will break stuff sooner or later, no matter if you drive a Ford Fiesta in stock class or a built M3 in Group N. Only difference is price of parts. At least there wasn’t any trees next to the road like in other rallies.
I don't think I'd ever want to get into rallying because of how expensive it is when things go wrong like in this video, but I can still appreciate how much skill and effort it takes for people like Chris that go after it!
You were going fast man!! Thanks again for sharing the free videos, i think i speak for most car enthusiasts when i say you are THE BEST car journalist there has ever been. Cheers from Peru!
It is sad to see something like this happen. For both the car and the drivers sake. Keep up the great work and keep that passion for everything you do. I know this was on drive plus a while ago and at the end you said you would let us know more in the next episode. Any update?
Don't know what it is but there's a real magic to 80s rally cars and the spirit too! Chris walking away from the wreck while making quips after 'throwing his willy around' LOL More of these rally vids if your wallet can stomach the pain! Still amazed the top mount was only tweeked after getting a wheel ripped off!
After reading the titel of the video and seeing the suspension at 1:56 my guess was that there might be an issue with that control arm. Some tube suspension designs are available on the market for the e30M3 some better some very bad but overall I would say more suited for on track racing.
Fantastic move painting the car alpine white, that's the color of my E30 M3, and I wouldn't have it any other way!!! Sad to see the car sitting in a field, but that's the nature of rallying
Yes, on reviewing the onboard footage, you can see a definite jerk when the link lets go, before the skewed wheel takes the car off the road. Could have been a lot worse. Nicely handled Chris!
Rainism true. well, clarkson is not a really good driver tho. Chris Harris and Tiff Needell ar in my opinion the best car journalists and both are awesome drivers.
Sorry about that chris pretty sure it will be running properly in no time. I love bmw and i work at bmw but if you want to rally for cheap then a gc8 is your best bet lol. Looking forward to see more of it!
I like the choice of gearbox for M3. Samsonas is very good gearbox maker but not many knows about it because it is from small country colled Lithuania. I also tried rallying in e30 as a co-driver. Go Chirs! Everything gonna be alright. Tell us more about your rallying career.
Sorry, Chris. It's tough to see someone spend months and thousands of dollars getting a car prepped, only to be taken down by a parts breakage. I hope to see more from this build in the future. Cheers from "the colonies."
iliovecaRS If you think about it, Honda produce a 2.0L, 240BHP engine for their road cars, this has a fairly decent service interval. Proper highly strung rally engines will need a rebuild or at least a refresh every two or three rallies. If you want mind bending statistics...Think about how in the same era... BMW were getting almost 1600 BHP out of a 1.5 engine in F1.
Before I looked at the comments I could see it was a car failure 🙃 unlucky mate. Next time!!!! Great car lucky she didnt go on her roof. No one hurt. If you have a 4th gear accident and lose a wheel and can still go for a pint, it's been a good day 😀
argh, fuel pump failure before the first stage?! Sounds all too familiar from my own misadventures with e30 and e36 race cars. Occupational hazard by the looks of things, but won't deter me!
The link (or a link, i'm not sure it's the right video) /watch?v=5NyvGMZzoBE I've already seen it btw, cuz it's one of the only way to have this great intake noise from race versions of the E30, with of course the option of the DTM examples.
I know what you mean. I`m also a big E30 M3 fan, but the example that Chris bought wasn`t worth restoring to original spec. It was in pretty bad condition and already had a rool cage welded in. Converting to a rally car was a good option in my opinion. I wish Chris good luck and enjoy his rally adventure with it.
Let's not forget that the 'M' means 'Motorsport' and that rallying is just that. Yes, it takes one of the road cars off the road - well, sort of, rally cars are still street-legal of course - but it means that tired old E30 gets to live a second life as something to be enjoyed by an enthusiast. Besides, BMW rallied M3s back in the day, like he said.
