Exactly right. I'm from Boston and Chris was a BIG TIME basketball phenom, and before he got into drugs, he had that clean cut, all-American aura about him. But, as God works in mysterious ways, you're right in that THE greatest achievement that Chris has done is what he's done/doing to help others.
Chris, that was an awesome tribute to your coach and friend and showed a lot about who you have become as well. Coach would have loved it. 19 mos sober here.........let's keep on keeping on
I could watch this everyday for the rest of my life, I know someone that battles addiction everyday, it is no gd joke, the bottom line, if you want help, you will get it, and if you want to quit, it's on you to do that, it takes work, 24 hours a day, for the rest of your life, a lot of help out there for anyone, Chris Herren, you motivate me and I salute you on your continued recovery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Every now and then I come back to this video. Chris Herren lived such a troubled life early on, but one full of redemption later. Hearing the way he talks about Tark, you can see the impact he had on Chris' life. A beautiful tribute

You will have a great memories of coach Jerry tarkanian chris herren your a legend basketball player chris herren !!!
3 years as of 6 days ago. Chris Herron would’ve been one of the greatest players ever but his contributions to this disease far supersedes anything he could’ve done on the hardwood.
Congrats on the great recovery. I just celebrated a year back in august. Chris has been an inspiration to me and countless others. Keep up the good work!
I dont remember his reign in basketball but while getting ready for church I turned on the TV and was glued to the message that MY SWEET JESUS wanted me to have,I cant find the words Chris for the passion and integrity you showed and your story of is of LOVE and to do your best as you are doing, you had the magic touch of GOD on You and it was to show HIS POWER and HIS LOVE and HOW EFFECTIVE YOUR LIFE WOULD BE,cause GOD IS GOING TO GET THE GLORY and HE GOT IT OUT OF CHRIS HERREN,GOD BLESS THE LOVE OF GOD FOR HIS CHILDREN
Herron is a special man, was a great player who we can all ask, how good could he really be…and yet I am sure his daily struggles today is how good of a man can he be, and for that he is a winner, finally
Thank you Chris. I loved the connection that you eloquently share. Like basketball the guards job is to pass the ball. To let the team know we win when we are all connected. It's a great job and I am so glad you have not stopped sharing.
No desire to get flamed here, but how does this sincere, humble statement of gratitude and love get two dislikes? I'm curious if Chris wrote the speech himself, because it is inspired.
Wow. What a fantastic tribute from an outstanding man and former athlete for his former coach. Chris Herren has gone through hell with addiction but has risen through the ashes a victor. He is an amazing public speaker and his respect, admiration and love for Coach Tarkanian was evident in his tribute. Well done Mr Herren. His life's struggles have made him the man he is today.
I lived those dark moments as Chris did. An I can feel his hurt and regret when I hear him. He's a shakespearean character, tragic and heroic. I'm from Worcester MA, not far from his hometown of Fall River MA. So I connect with him in many ways. I'm on the same recovery road. I hope he keeps speaking and inspiring people to make it. God Bless Chris.
Chris...a most wonderful, heartfelt tribute to Coach Tark. He was everything you said and more. I know how much love he held in his heart for you and his players. He is so proud of the man you have become. He will be missed by all...
Tark reminds me of Sonny Vacarro and vic-versa. They looked so much alike. Tark was so much about giving guys a second chance and getting them to the pros.
