It’s pretty cool to see how far Chris’ comedy is reaching. As an Australian so many of the characters are truly Aussie cliches that we have grown up with and are still in our towns today. He is a straight up legend!!
I’ve lived in Australia since 2004 and I’ve always wondered why no one has touched upon this side of comedy on Australian tv until Chris came along and made it globally known, i mean when you get into the gritty true characters that you find in the middle and poor class areas that’s where comedy is at its best, eg everyone knows a Jonah from Tonga growing up in school, or any other of his characters we have come across in our everyday life here in Australia but somehow the comedy we get on television is the bloody footy show 🤦♂️
Re-watching summer heights with my fiancé and she loves it too. Chris is sincerely a borderline genius, if not full-blown. Mr G is an icon. Great to see Theo hooking up with him. Good stuff guys.
CHRIS LILLEY!!!! No way, i love that guy. His show Angry Boys and his new show on Netflix are top notch. Ive never seen him really do many interviews so the fact he is on with Theo is amazing. Anyone who has not heard of him or haven't seen any of his shows, you need to get on it ASAP!!! I highly recommend
The part in the very beginning when Theo talked about laughter in social situations being the only time he could relax and be confident is my life x10.
Um...why we hating on someone who has fucking taste? The only dropkicks are the responding dickheads who probably idolise NRL players. Tell me I’m wrong......
Whenever people say or ask who Australia's best comedian is you get the usual Carl Barron, Peter Heliar, Footy show hosts etc. Chris is by the far the most intelligent comedian, actor, writer, director this country has ever produced period
I watched summer high heights and found it to be ridiculously funny. Then Jonah from Tonga came out and it was also hilarious. This dude is so underrated.
@@lukemcternan1264but I think it actually happened dude... I definitely watched the whole thing.... I didn't hear anything but I was listening. I understand but I can't explain it. Xo
Theo always seems gracious for every guest he has on here, but I've never heard him this excited and energized about someone before, and it's easy to see why. Chris really struck a positive chord in Theo. Hats off to both of these guys👏🏼
Chris Lilly was uncannily exactly as I expected him to be, in every way. Now I’m thinking perhaps I’ve actually seen interviews with him in the past, or maybe I’m just super intuitive.
One of my favourite memories was meeting Chris, I was just a kid and he was really respectful and worried about me and my brother watching his show hahaha, the media is fucking disgusting and same with all these people trying to call himna racist
No way!! You're talking Chris Lilley, that's crazy. I've been a fan of his since 'Summer heights high'was first released. Awesome guest and interview.🤗
I thought this man was a hidden treasure that no one knew about besides me and maybe others from his country. But I’m glad he’s become a national treasure
Holy shit Theo he's so difficult to get an interview from! Did he mention Angry Boys at all? Its the follow on to Summer Heights High. Its even better!
OMG, kudos Theo! I just discovered Lunatics last week. I've been on a Chris Lilley kick ever since. And to see a podcast with my 2 loves, Theo & Chris, so happy! Thank you brothers!
God I love Theo and Chris Lilley and was so excited, however this was so awkward. I think that the cultural differences are apparent in this interview - Australian performer v American comedian = this was really interesting in an incredibly awkward way. If Theo was Australian this would have been a match made in heaven but as an Australian and a Theo Von listener I could see where Theo was unable to tap more out of this interview with Chris Lilley e.g. Chris not wanting to speak about himself in a serious way, if presented differently he would have been comfortable to say more but Australians don't speak about themselves in positive terms as easily as Americans - it needs to be done in a way that is self-deprecating. Chris was happy to speak of the creative process but not his individual experience of celebrity :) hahaha because if he did he would be a wanka :) and would internally cringe - similar to the idea of loss of face - it feels disgusting!!! Thanks Theo - welcome to Australia.
I noticed too but then realised that the deep southern accent has a slight Aussie sound to it and when you put them together they seem like they are morphing . Louissianna and other deep south have that. Maybe both have longer vowels maybe , something similar
Us Aussies have our own mental stock pile of chris character quotes we've been whipping out for years. I'm glad it's finally reaching across the pond!!
Say the line "Thank God your here" to a certain age bracket of Aussies and the majority will respond "Grandmas been raped" Thats the genius of Lilley 🤣
Heard you reference this interview in your Celeste barber podcast - I cannot believe you got Chris on the show. My two absolute favs together having a chat. Love this so much! Was wild seeing you cooking with the boys too "one of them has downsyndrome I think" took me out 😂 keep up the great work man. Love from South Australia ❤
