met a guy once who was part of catalytic converter theft ring, and the group was responsible for hundreds of thefts. Made pretty big bucks off the trade.
For reference, the toecap originally comes from the German army trainer, a shoe that was distributed to soldiers during the cold war. Originally, it looked something more like that on the Margiela Replica.
Looking forward to getting the all black colorway. VM1 is an amazing shoe, one of my new favorites. I hope VM4 gets that coffee brown color that they have been doing in drop 8 and 9
I think this brand does a good job of balancing between good looking classic silhouettes with more of a premium feel to them if you want to look cute on a Saturday night
More room at the toe for a wider foot is what I look for. When I got my first pair from fallen, I never got another shoe. If those last resort is a bit wide at the toe, I'd give them a shot.
Vm003 has been my favourite so far. They’re all so good but that retro look is just so rad- and I absolutely love the new two tone colour they released. The vm002 skates good I love the flick with that textured sole but I agree they do look like a penis- especially once they get really worked in.
I can say this as an owner of over 300 sneakers currently. I need a pair of last resort sneakers. They look quite good. I still haven't gotten around to scooping any pairs. These are cold. I'd rock em. I don't skate anymore.
I bought my usual size 12 from a place that i didn't find out until later doesn't do free returns and it ended up being too big. I want to try 11.5 but the 12s were just wide enough and I worry the smaller size will be too narrow.
They look good. Super glad I saw this before buying a pair. Will get my normal 12 instead of the 11.5 I usually get in LR’s. The cup sole shoe looks like a low top airwalk enigma and I mean that in a good way as an “old head” lol. Hope Pontus does some color ways inspired by the classic airwalk shoe
I want those crackle black white duo ones. But they are canvas. Is it like, true canvas that rips in 1 day. Or is it labelled as canvas but is a little more resilient as a weird mesh crackle duo fabric. Does that make sense
I've not skated them, but I have skated the canvas ones from the last 3 drops and they are all just regular canvas with a thin rubber underlay at the high-wear areas. If you put a thin layer of shoe-goo on the ollie area BEFORE you skate them then I find they last as long as the suede ones, like the upper lasts longer than the sole. Plus you get the benefits of them being lighter, more brathable, keeping their shape etc. I way prefer the canvas models but you need to be willing to do a tiny bit of DIY on them.
this isn't an opinion, I'm just curious. I wonder if Last Resort will go the way of many other small brands where they start out with a very specific idea that makes them unique, but in order to support the brand the distance between their design and the designs of the most popular brands becomes smaller and smaller to the point where they are indistinguishable from the brands they were trying to be different from. Obviously one of the big things for Last Resort is the absence of a giant logo (which is why I buy them) and I really don't see that changing but I do wonder if in a few drops they will release something that is functionally very similar to something like a Vans shoe
i read all of that and gotta say one thing, never forget that the reason why KFC Taco Bell, Pizza Huts exist in the first place is because Pepsi couldn’t compete with Coca Cola in the fast food marketplace. See, for the longest time, Pepsi’s unofficial slogan was “is Pepsi ok?”, because everyone was riding Coke. So every restaurant was turning Pepsi down. Pepsi took a look at all the numbers and realized it was cheaper to buy 3 fast food chains than to actually compete with Coca Cola. So that’s what they did, they bought KFC, Taco Bell, and Pizza Hut. So once they got those together, they started running those as a division of Pepsi. After a while they spun off as its own company called Yum! Brands, but if you go to any of these locations they still only carry Pepsi. Yum! Brands turned around and looked at the fact that they 3 restaurants that all served Pepsi and realized it would be cheaper to go ahead and combine a couple of these restaurants so they don’t have to have as many physical locations to be able to still encapsulate a market. They thought that idea was so genius and how much money they would save from not having locations that they then took those savings and use them to lobby both the federal government in Washington and all of your fun state governments to make sure the minimum wage was kept low. To make sure that they could keep paying people DIRT wages so that way they could keep saving money, and giving that money back to their shareholders. Which is the reason why today, when I wanted fucking Taco Bell, the goddamn lobby was closed, because NOBODY WANTS TO WORK AT TACO BELL FOR FUCKING MINIMUM WAGE. BECAUSE IT’S $7.25 IN FUCKING PENNSYLVANIA. THE MINIMUM WAGE IN PENNSYLVANIA IS $7.25 AN HOUR. AND I JUST WANTED A FUCKING MEXICAN PIZZA, BUT NOBODY WAS THERE TO WORK TO KEEP THE FUCKING LOBBY OPEN. AND I DON’T WANT TO EAT A MEXICAN PIZZA IN MY CAR, IT SMELLS LIKE SHIT. BUT IT TASTES DELICIOUS. I JUST WANT TO EAT A FUCKING MEXICAN PIZZA AND THEY DON’T HAVE ENOUGH STAFF TO HAVE A FUCKING OPEN LOBBY. ALSO I WANT ACCESS TO THE BATHROOMS. BUT NO, PEPSI COULDN’T FUCKING COMPETE WITH COCA COLA BACK IN 1973, SO I HAD TO EAT A FUCKING MEXICAN PIZZA IN MY CAR, AND NOW MY NISSAN ROGUE SMELLS LIKE SHIT.
I gotta say, i do like the way the VM004 looks. But it's definitely not really my style (with the current colorways). But i do like the oldschool sneaker/bowling shoe look of it. & the fact that it's a chris milic/frog shoe it makes sense to me. It just fits him perfectly. But, I heavily prefer the VM001 honestly, at least in aesthetic. I think it was on your video where you made a reply to Dan talking shit about LR AB and gloryfing cariuma that i made a long winded comment about why i like them, so i won't bore you with the details here. Howevever, one conundrum i can see Last Resort facing is from this point onward; if they are planning to make Pro models or any newer versions or make variants the hardest thing they'll have to deal with in the design process is finding a healthy balance between that minimalist classical look that they have become known for & adding just enough elements to have the shoes stand apart and retain their functionality... but it would be funny to see a company like LRAB do their version of a D3 or some similar 2K era Es or Etnies shoe. Who knows, maybe the cupsole experiment will be a success & this will lift the company from lowkey minimalist core brand to hardcore maximalist Tech/competition Skater monolith & we'll get someone from the primitive team riding for a pontus brand. or they'll go the route of vans and just make the most dumbest collabs imaginable (LRAB x VeeFriends? food for thought.) But this is just me having a little laugh, i think they have a good head on their shoulders, and with the VM004 & the fact they have a new insole it seems they are really fintetuning what their brand is about & listening to customer feedback is a rare commodity for companies to actually do. i'll probably stick to VM001's for the time being, and the 2 pairs of them I have are still in action so I'm not complaining but i'm definitely interested in seeing where Pontus & the team takes it from this point forward.
@@kevincollins8620they're ok at best. The suede slip ons are actually pretty good, but I'd rather skate another pair of Last Resorts than buy Strayes again (I've skated both)
