This is terrific. I became friends with Chris in Chicago. He was doing a lot of one man shows of Wilde, O’Connor and others. He was terrific. We would enjoy an occasional beer and he stayed at my couch & apartment a few times when I lived over on Melrose. A good man and extraordinary talent. Thank you for this tribute to Chris. I miss him.
I miss him terribly. 23 years gone. Can't believe it. The picture of him and Brian Dennehy shown in the ending montage is particularly touching, giving Mr. Dennehy's passing the other day. The one man shows he did in Chicago were often 2 or 3 handers in NYC, with either Susan McKeown or I or both accompanying Chris on his journey through Irish poets, playwrights, comedians, and songwriters. It was a privilege and an honor to work with Chris, as well as a wild ride. I will never forget him. I'll leave this with one of my favorite pieces that we did together in our show "All the Best!" The Song of Wandering Aengus I went out to the hazel wood, Because a fire was in my head, And cut and peeled a hazel wand, And hooked a berry to a thread; And when white moths were on the wing, And moth-like stars were flickering out, I dropped the berry in a stream And caught a little silver trout. When I had laid it on the floor I went to blow the fire aflame, But something rustled on the floor, And some one called me by my name: It had become a glimmering girl With apple blossom in her hair Who called me by my name and ran And faded through the brightening air. Though I am old with wandering Through hollow lands and hilly lands, I will find out where she has gone, And kiss her lips and take her hands; And walk among long dappled grass, And pluck till time and times are done The silver apples of the moon, The golden apples of the sun. - William Butler Yeats Beannaigh an Tiarna é agus coinnigh é; déanann an Tiarna a aghaidh a sholas air agus a bheith gránna dó; cas an Tiarna a aghaidh air agus tabhair síocháin dó.
