Same. I was 13 in 03 when the sing the sorrow album came out then I really felt like I could relate more at 16 in 06. I also listened to the art of drowning MANY times on the good ole ipod nano during study hall and after school. I would research the lyrics to see what they actually were and found this wealth of articulation and prose. A lot of p write them off as emo but they are romantically poetic in gothic style (and I mean in a literary theme sense) with a modern relatable voice (to the audience). That's not even scratching the surface of the emotive yet other worldly musicality + entrancing lyrics. This band is criminally underrated. Their newer music is also pretty good. Not totally sold on the newest releases but I appreciated several tracks on the proceeding albums but they don't hold a candle to the cohesive masterpieces that sts and du were imo but maybe I didn't personally connect with the newer stuff as much and that's fine too, I'm sure others are moved by it. I guess I didn't realize narcissistic abuse and emotional turmoil in the home will create a dysfunctional person early on and found dark escapism in AFI for sure. But yeah, was obsessed with this and thirteenth still by apc. Those were my most listened to whole albums of emotional significance.
