what i respect the most is he's doing this show for fun, probably has enough money to last him until the end of the world. The whole AC/DC crew are such humble and genuinely nice people. My favorite Angus quote: "If you play one of our songs and think it's too difficult, you're probably playing it wrong." My favorite Brian quote: "It doesn't bother me at all if you want to call our music 'soft rock', you can call it whatever you like, we will keep doing what we like best"
This man is a powerhouse. Was at donnington 1991.He redeemed AC/DC after Simon Wright.Seeing his smile just from playing 16th’s on the hi -hat for Thunderstruck to over60’000 people and they all jump in unison is one of my all time greatest life moments 💪🤘🥁 Not disrespecting Simon at all, just a time frame reference! Love Fly on the Wall and his snare sound is Brutal That's the way I Wanna Rock 'n' Roll😎
Simon Wright was not the problem, it was a mistake by Angus and Malcolm for becoming producers without previous experience, Simon came just at a bad time that the band simply stopped, it is very unfair to speak as if the fault was his, to me It seems there is not a song that has played badly, Rudd and Slade maybe are better but Simon is not a bad drummer either, not at all.
Jose Guillermo Quiroz hate all the flack Simon Wright gets, he was a damn good drummer, far better than Slade. He just came at a bad time when the young brothers took over everything, even the drum scores!
@@natashagething1054 Simon was a little bit too fast Drummer for AC/DC. But I think, Simon himself thought he was not the right Drummer for the Band and left the Band for drumming with Dio.
Watch Chris Slade play "let there be rock" live at Donington 91´. He plays 8´th notes in 15 minutes, at a tempo out of this world. Then you´ll all shut up in here. Music/drumming isn´t all about technic, but timing certainly is! - especially the drums.
Well he had a very solid tempo on the razor's edge tour, albeit a bit rushed and with no pocket or swung groove, the rock or bust tour the tempos were off and not steady and he played flourishes and shit that doesn't work with acdc the band swings and sounds locked and tight with phil
Well said. Drummers sure are cunts aren't we. Don't know why so many drummers go around calling other drummers shit all the damn time. Everyone's got an opinion, but everyone can shove it just the same. Drums are beautiful. Let them be played. Don't be jealous.
People criticising smh. Say what you like but he was AC/DC's drummer and you were not. Enjoy playing like Vinnie Colaiuta in front of 6 drunks in your local bar.
That he was the drummer of AC / DC doesn't make him a better drummer either and his Solo is just bad. Look at Eric Moor. Then you know what a good Drummer and a good drumm Solo is!!!
That's not a good analogy. I doubt Vinnie Colaiuta is playing in front of 6 drunks at your local bar. There are many reasons why a certain guy gets a gig. I will say regardless of how bad this is, (and it is), I have to respect anyone that can get up there and do their thing and he seems like a nice enough fellow.
Chris slade is terrible, always thought his cymbals at donnington 91 sounded like saucepan lids. And why was he so fast? And by the way, last time I played was in front of 7 drunks and a smackhead, so there!
I grinned the whole time watching this.. he may not be Larnell Lewis but he embodied the joy of playing that got me into the drums in the first place back in the early 70's. The dude is rock solid! ..and THAT is EXACLTY what AC/DC needed from a drummer to be one of the TOP stadium rock bands of all time !
Chris is my favorite person who played in AC/DC. Stand up guy for sure and amazing drummer. I have to give the nod to Rudd but just barely. Slade rocks every time he picks up the sticks.
To those not impressed or to those mindlessly defending him like he was on the top of his game: AGE NATURALLY DESTROYS SKILLS. It's just a sad fact of life. When people get older, they lose much of what made them great when they were younger. Unless you tirelessly keep at it like Vinnie Colaiuta every day (which most professionals simply don't do when they get older), your technique will suffer. The musicality will still be there, but actually doing what you want to do becomes much, much harder. There will come a time when Colaiuta won't sound very good either. He'll know what he wants to play, but won't be able to do it properly. These legends may not have the skills to compete with young musicians today, but they sure had those skills back in their day.
You are 100% right with your oservation if your talking about players who are using the same principals, drum set ups and regular drum sticks. But there is always something more - more places you can look at to keep fresh and efficient in drumming. Chris Slade is a very influential drummer in my book, but not as much as Steve Gadd or Stewart Copleand. First time I heard Chris Slade is on Manfred Mann's "Nightingales and Bombers" - about 40 years ago. I was very impressedwith his clean drum sound and playing on that album. His ACDC years where quite good too! Check out my RU-vid channel - I am constantly working on my set ups and techniques - depending on task and mood of the music. Thank you for your wonderful comment and hope to see you around again!
Woo hoo! That’ll get your heart pounding! I always knew he was an awesome drummer, but seeing him do it solo… 🤯 my mind is blown! It’s like he went into a different dimension… lol, and the people in the background were like, yawn, we see him do it all the time.”🥱 That was legendary.
@@echeverria1674 Still, no one knows about you; the guy in the video? Chris Slade, AC/DC's drummer from 1989 to 1994, one studio album, one live album, and Phil Rudd's replacement for the Rock or Bust tour... You get it now?
@@echeverria1674 You are right about that, and I'm sure you can play, but I'm just pointing out that even if he is not being a "great" drummer in this clip, he still made something that anyone would be proud about; he brought life back to AC/DC back in '89 with his drumming and filled in for them again to play their last tour. I mean, just watch his performance in the Live at Donington DVD; it was outstanding. People have a lot of respect for him, and that is what makes him great.
He played straight 8th notes on a hit hat for nearly 20 minutes when playing let there be rock, no, these other people would never be able to do better
@Hemanth RVN Jesus christ are you as drunk as he is???? This is horrible look as his technique!!! And their happy cause they have no idea what drums are lol
No musician is inspired to play their best 24/7. Much harder for a drumner or bass player, than other instruments. With a harmonic instrument, a guitar for instance, you always have a no brainer standard to fall back on.
Have to remember he's in his 70's now. He does have a persona about him when he plays in band. Notice he has double bass pedal. He's not a double bass original. First time I saw chris was pebble mill BBC 1982/ 3 with gary numan. Looked the part there with the new stoccata kit and his hat on. Love you chris
I liked this solo. You don't have to be Joey Jordison to be entertaining when playing a drum solo. You can tell he really enjoys playing. I play drums for fun and can hammer out 4/4 all day and that's cool with me. This guy played for a national act that sells out arenas. He has talent, alot of it otherwise he would not have played for AC/DC.
A "boring" band that has sold out arenas for decades. Let's be honest, that band revolves around Angus Young. Everyone else was just supporting cast. Love them or hate them, you have to respect the talent.
He sounded better when he was touring cause he was playing every night. Hundreds of nights in a row. Everyone gets rusty. Sometimes it only takes a month of not playing
Phil Rudd had a certain perfect chemistry with Malcolm, Angus, and the other guys in AC/DC and as far as I'm concerned they never should have replaced Phil Rudd because - well, Phil Rudd can't be replaced if you expect AC/DC to be, well, AC/DC. I don't know what the other AC/DC guys were thinking when they cut first Phil out in 1983 or whenever it was, but the band's sound was never really the same after.
My only thought is he is hammered? The best part is if a no name drummer went up and tore into that kit the fans will still say this guy is the best because of his name
People be judging his drumming for not being crazy incredible...i say look how old he is. And would like to ask you all how many of you have been asked to play for the biggest band in the world...
Bah oui un grand batteur Avec ce frise tribal qui nous plaît tant dans ACDC et qui a plu tout de suite aux frères Young après avoir auditionné plus de 100 batteurs Donc respect ! Que demander de plus
...just look at 'im... dripping with rock-n-roll... AC/DC & Chris Slade are Lucky to have each other... Thee Rockn'est Band of All Time with Chris Slade, a Drummer to match... let his drumming, his resume, the Rock'n Heavy Duty look on his face, his speed and strength sweating from every pore... and I think maybe most of all that AC/DC chose Chris Slade to be their Drummer, to be a member of their, the AC/DC Family, chose Chris to be a Brother... if the Band digs him (and so too a long list of the who's-who of other bands, artists, & more, etc), I'm certainly not going to critique their choice, except to say I believe Chris Slade was born for this gig with AC/DC, really not much else to say... and of course if I dig him... ...just look at 'im... Look! Listen! He just Rocks the Rockn' Rockn'est for All Eternity... if He, Chris, died on stage you wouldn't know it... even till Death, He'd not part... He'd just keep on Drumming... He'd just keep on Rockn'!!!
I saw this guy in 1975 drummin' with Manfred Mann and opening for Uriah Heep on european tour.they were playin' the Solar Fire LP. he have some hairs at this time!!! keep on rockin' Chris and best wishes from an old french dumbass!!!!
Anyone that says anything about this guy being no being a soloist. Most of us are good with that. There is a lot less trips to the bathroom during the show. I’d rather hear a 4 in the floor for for minutes and have neck pains after than have a headache trying to figure out just how many notes the dude played in 45 seconds!
@@steveross8326 I know, you're right, just seems easier to say how crap someone is by saying "even Ringo....." always think of Ringo as being a calmer Keith moon!?
