Depression is like an ocean. And sadly, for a lot of people, over time drowning becomes easier than trying to fight going under.

One of the only videos that is so emotional and draws you in to the point where you actually forget that one of the top male vocalists on Earth is actually singing his ass off.

I suffer from mental health problems. This song brought to light the perspective of the loved ones on the outside and the things that they go through. Taught me to take care of myself and pay Attention to my environment and how its effecting me. Love those warriors that fight for you and with you.

I’m so grateful that Chris put this song out here to let others know that this disease is real. I’ve seen a lot of people with bipolar/emotional issues and family/friends have stepped away from them. We as a society need to embrace our family/friends with these diseases. It could happen to you!!! No matter how many times I watch this video, I cry! It’s unfortunate that no matter how much you try to help your loved one in this kind of a situation, it rarely turns out like you think it should. A lot of people who stand by their loved one and fight for them, get wore out. They get tired of fighting and never getting to a point that is better. It’s a horrible disease, one which many people suffer from. God Bless!!!

Well this song could've been about myself and my husband. The only thing is I never succeeded. I woke up on respirator too many times. My husband was my rock. I finally got the right combination of meds and counseling. My husband had a heart attack nine years ago. I didn't think I could survive. But here I am.

I'm a bipolar survivor on a day to day basis...40 years. My husband and kids are my life and foundation. But you feel the guilt of what you put them thru. Meds are great until their not. New meds and the next new cocktail to help you is enough to make you stop taking them. Hospitalization is just a bandaid to put you on the pill of the month and send you home. Be thankful if you have a loved one that gets it or tries and is willing to just hold you. And be thankful their is Jesus to lean on.

The Cop and husband in the video is played by Ben Foster, I recommend the movie The Messenger from 2009, he's in it, it's one of the saddest movies I've ever seen.

I have bipolar depression. Over the years I have lost a lot of friends over the years. My brain is broken. Since 2008 I hadn’t had any suicidal thoughts. A week ago I was struggling and it was 2am and I was fighting for 2 days to help myself. It was just getting too hard. I called 2 of my friends that didn’t answer and then I looked and my niece was on and I messaged her and she immediately called me. I said I am not ok you have to help me. So we got on video and we talked about it. She is 22 and she made me promise that I would never do that. We both were crying. She said please call this phone night or day and if I don’t answer keep calling. She got way close at the video and said please promise me and I said I promise I will do my best. My psychiatrist told me not everyone can watch you go from someone they know to someone they don’t recognize. And the sad thing is they leave when you need them the most. And the out look to this video will hopefully make people understand that we don’t choose this life of misery. I hate having this and not to be able to just shut if off. This video is truly amazing when it comes to how it happens. It’s a horrible outcome. Think of it this way, you see a person slowly die inside. My brother has put up with so much and still loves me and helps me. I don’t want to be this way! Thank you for reacting to this song. 💕💕💕

I'm 45, and this Song hits way too close to home for me...😥 As someone who has survived 3 suicide attempts (the 1st time that I survived, I was actually angry at my husband for days), with my husband of 25 years, finding me in comas twice, and was intubated. He's saved my life, many times, and is still trying to help me fight my inner demons..I know it is so hard for him, and our 3 adult children...I've been living with chronic pain for over 20 years, lost my leg; from a Strep A infection in my foot, had 13 abdominal surgeries, among others (25 total & almost died too many times to count), and with all of my pain, diseases, disabilities (I'm unable to wear a prosthetic, so I'll never walk again), having CPTSD, anxiety, and chronic depression, I do get the strong beliefs of worthlessness, being a burden on my family, and feeling that everyone will be better off without my problems...Even though they're always telling me the opposite. It continues to get worse since I lost my leg, I have no freedom anymore since I can't drive myself anywhere, because I can't afford a vehicle for me to get into with my wheelchair by myself, so I must rely on others to even get to a doctor's appointment, or even a store...so I feel more helpless, trapped, and depressed... When I start sinking, my mind goes to a place where I'm unable to remember how they feel, and I only believe in the lies that my mind is telling me...💔😢🙏 I don't want to hurt my husband, or children, they're all very protective of me, are always checking in on me, they take all precautions, and make sure that I'm safe from myself. They will even try to discreetly look for burns/cuts, and if they do, they will never get mad at me, but gently talk with me in private, to try to find out what is wrong at that time, and my Boy's always remind to call them at anytime (day/night/@ work), to try to help me (Great Mama's Boy's)...and my Hubby does even more, and tries to lock up anything that I can seriously hurt myself on, takes time off work, and will stay up all night, talking, or watching me sleep. I'm very blessed to have such wonderful men in my life💙 (I'm truly blessed with my daughter, but she has mental disabilities, and will always have the mind of a child👼), I love my family, more than anything❣ 🥰💖 My husband is my biggest rock, I know I would have missed out on very special occasions with my kids, he's so gentle, and loving to me, takes it when I lose myself, and holds me tight when I cry, even with him not fully understanding what's going on inside of me, and he's the only person I can trust, when I'm feeling suicidal...I want to grow old with him, I just scare myself when I get so bad, and it doesn't matter if I'm going through therapy (I've tried it even under care). My husband is my biggest lifeline, second are my 2 son's. (Sorry for being so long) For anyone going through anything like this, please let others know, and help you...The pain we will leave in our wake, will be Horrific, and not something that you would want to go through yourselves...Confide In Someone, And Remember There's Always Help Somewhere❣✝️🤲🙏💪💝✌ THANK YOU, CHRIS STAPLETON, This Message Is So Important, Mental Health Is A Very Hard Disease To Fight...🙏❤✌

I'm praying for you and your family Brenda . Jesus Christ is the only real answer. He is the light of the world. I came to know this back in 2006 in a New York State prison. On my last leg, deeply depressed -- and God answered a pray I said to him a year and a half before asking him to show me the truth of who he is . I was fully healthy and in a good space mentally when I said that prayer. Then shortly after, all crumbled. Fast forward a year and a half of torture mentally and physically nonstop, and a man from Trinidad came to me and led me to the truth of what God's word says, and I received Jesus Christ as my Saviour that night. I finally was aware that eternal life is a FREE GIFT that we desperately need to be in heaven with God forever. I can say soo much but please go on RU-vid and watch " How to know for certain your going to heaven- Dr Hank Lindstrom" and settle your eternal destination right this moment. Don't wait. Tomorrow is not promised. The video is only 7 minutes long but it gives you very clearly the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Please watch and get saved from hell NOW. I say this because I really care. This is for everyone reading this as well. Jesus Christ is real and we need to go through him to get to the Father in heaven. Don't reject him. He loves us and died for us the pay the penalty for our sins in our place. Receive him today. Now! 🙏

Unfortunately, for so many the mania can be as devastating and deadly as the depression. Good mental health is really, really hard work and is a daily battle. We have to take proactive and consistent measures and not just put our lives on our loved ones’ lap. It is essential to be there for a mentally ill family member/friend, but you can’t save someone who won’t help themselves. Those of us with these issues can’t take the passenger train in life; we have to put in the effort - WHATEVER IT TAKES.

Depression is real. My daughter has Bi-Polar and on medication. I as her mother has depression and anxiety which I’m on meds also. My daughter has been thru a lot when she was younger and never took us. She has PSDT, hypothyroid and ADD. She’s on meds. She’s struggling with all this and had to stop taking her meds cuz she was pregnant but after having her baby she also has Postpartum depression. It’s hard for someone that doesn’t have it really can’t understand what ppl with it go thru. So get help for anyone that has it!! God bless!💖🙏

The video is so good and sucks you in from the start that people dont necessarily take in the words that start it all off...Honey, load up your questions and pick up your sticks and your stones, and pretend I'm a shelter for heartaches that don't have a home. Choose the words that cut like a razor and all that I'll say...Is fire away, take your best shot etc explains it all but not everyone gets it till nearer the end because they're too lost in the video.

Gave you a thumbs up but I have to be a little bit of a Debbie Downer. I know this was a live stream reaction, but you shouldn't be reading comments during the video. You end up pausing it at the wrong time and you miss the flow of what is happening, like not realizing that him drinking in the bar was the present and that he was remembering what had happened in the past. This is the only music video Chris has done. There are plenty of him during live performances but no produced videos. His record label kept pushing him to do one. He agreed but had some non-negotiable conditions. One, that he pick and write the song, two, that he pick the subject matter, and three, that he have say in the selection of the actors, the production, and the direction of the video, and four, that he not appear in the video singing or playing the guitar. He receives no money from the video, all of it goes to changedirection to help people with mental problems. Bi-polar or manic/depression isn't just a chemical imbalance in the brain. It can't be fixed just by taking medication. I have suffered from depression for years and have tried to commit suicide. My doctors and I have found medication, after many trials and error, that keep me on a more or less even keel, but it doesn't go away.
