I'm a Seattle guy and I love GP. My Dad used to have floor seats and there were always two shows. The actual game and GP talking trash. He's a smart guy because his trash talk was super witty. He'd murder people in Seattle by getting in their heads. There were only 2 guys that I saw shut him out. MJ wasn't bothered by him one bit and actually got in his head. Stockton was always stone-faced and completely ignored GP. GP has said Stockton was his toughest opponent partially because he was totally silent. (and dirty! I don't agree but that's ok) Long love GP!!! PS. Commissioner, please bring the NBA back to Seattle and let us keep our name. Give us back 41 years of Sonics' basketball. Seattle can support an NBA team. Our loss of the Sonics was an awful fluke. Thanks Howard Shultz and Clay Bennett. But for one business trip to Europe, which caused a delay, Steve Ballmer would have owned the team with his pocket money. Shultz need to fire sell the team!)
Sad but I guess that's true. Payton and Kemp have both discussed how bad it sucks to have been legends for a team that no longer exists. All thanks to Howard S. and Clay B. Fuckers!
@TheEntertainmentonly do you even think kukoc and pippen would be performing well if jordan wasn't on their team? like i've said before a "finals low" doesn't mean anything except good defense by the sonics on that series alone.
The Glove is the man, but Kenny Smith is beefing on GP cuz Gary capped his ass on the air, bringing up what a half-talent Smith was and how awesome GP was. The only thing Kenny could come up with is rings, but the Glove got his in Miami, so even that was squashed. It was delicious to watch... but then GP got thrown off TNT, and now he's on FOX :( sad day for us
tipdub If you don't know that Kenny Smith is a knobhead and has gotten guys blacklisted on TNT then you don't know what you are talking about. And if you haven't seen the clip of GP completely clowning Smith then that's a shame. AND if you think as a player Smith is fit to hold Payton's jock then you never saw them play
Relbl Yes, I've seen that clip, and I grew up watching them both play in the 90s. I think that Kenny's chemistry and ego on Inside the NBA help make that show. He is proud of who he was as a player, but he also takes his lumps all the time. Also, trying to suppress other people's opinions and making absolutist statements doesn't lend you any support.
tipdub I would say his ego helps him stand up to Chuck and now Shaq, but when he can be an ass to someone he usually is - that's the big reason Chuck is so hard on him IMO. Not sure what's absolutist about saying that GP was a far better player than the Jet...
Relbl I'm not saying that Kenny was a better player than Gary was. You came up with all that by yourself while trying to silence every opinion in the land. I just disagree with your characterization of Kenny on TNT. On his pettiness--I just don't see it. He's a proud former athlete who also knows who he was as a supporting role player. Ernie, Charles, and Kenny have been working together for *15+* years. They've been such a long-running success because they created an environment where everyone is able to genuinely give and take their lumps without getting too upset. If you want to talk about beefs and egos, I don't know how you can do so without talking about Shaq's past work on the show.
@Zimbo4life1 I have no idea how either of them got that job. E.Snow is always mumbling and Brent Barry straight up sighs sometimes like he just doesnt want to be there.
Pre-Injury C-Webb. I have to give the nod to Karl Malone myself despite the fact I was never too fond of him being a Pistons fan. I give him the nod because of his defense. C-Webb was solid defensively, but over the course of their careers, I have to go with Malone. I'd probably have to give Duncan and KG the nod for the same reasons. On the other hand, Duncan had Robinson at the beginning. He never had to turn around franchises like the Kings and Wizards like C-Webb was expected to do.
@TheLebronbron THANK YOU, I TOTALLY AGREE. I couldn't believe they got rid of GP- i know he went off topic a lot, but all they needed was an ernie-equivalent to reign them in. for shaq to bump webber off was absolutely insulting. shaq may be the more famous player, but he is the shittier commentator, and he HAS NO EXPERIENCE commentating. webber had to do his time on NBATV before going to an emmy-winning show. wtf has shaq had to do??
