Go without eating (fast) for days and quiet your mind of all distraction and cry out to the Lord. To "pray" is to communicate with the Lord. I will do so for you, but it is not my communication that will be of importance. It is your communication with the Lord that will draw you near to Him. Tell Him you accept Him and His truth and you long to submit to His will. Blessings be upon you. When you receive His will it is an unburdening of all your life all at once, a true new birth. Oh how I pray this for you!

Also with prayer and fasting I read scripture...... That is years ago before I'd heard of orthodoxy. Last March I got a prayer book and I found this dicipline really good.... I did morning and evening prayer and canon to our Lady... While studying as catecumen. . Last 2 years were awful tough!! I got baptised last Sept. God help you and all of us!!

Two years ago, this Pascha I was baptized, chrismated, and participated in the Eucharist. I will never forget it. It’s a mind warp for me, in the material world we live in, where “If I can’t touch it, feel it, or see it, it doesn’t exist” was upside down. Suddenly a new reality takes place: I felt new. I felt illuminated. If I live to be a 100 I’ll never forget that day. I am eternally grateful that I was lead to the Orthodox Church. What did I ever do to deserve such riches? How was I so lucky?

Father if you could answer; if someone was received by Chrismation and then given a proper Orthodox Baptism afterwards, do you think that person should be re-Chrismated?
@johnparker4484
@johnparker4484 2 месяца назад
This is magical, thinking. Do whatever your priest and Bishop have decided is proper for you to be received into the church. If your litmus test for being “properly” received into the Church is your own criteria or your own understanding of how it works, then, you are thinking, like a magician, not being obedient to the tradition.

@@nickkerinklio8239 Yeah, other dude has it right. Your view treats the sacraments like a magic spell that only works if the parts are done in the right order (which is literally what you’re asking). The guy questioning you is pointing out the sacraments do not work this way, and - I’ll add - no jurisdiction on the planet holds to a 100% rule of baptism for all new converts. Even ROCOR will chrismate people to this very day coming from Protestantism… because they know it’s not a magic spell. Don’t get me wrong. I’m all for baptism as the norm, I just reject the version of the sacraments that ignores what both Fr. Seraphim Rose and the New Martyr Daniel Sysoev have described as being within the bishops’ “ability to bind and loose” (even when it wasn’t the most prudent act, it doesn’t change that it’s still done).

I’ve heard and seen Catholics only getting chrismated in the Greek Orthodox Church. They are told because they are baptized the Greek Orthodox Church just chrismates. Is the right? Or are they not fully orthodox?
@triscat

If the bishop of your church says you are Orthodox, then you are Orthodox even with just chrismation. This other corrective baptism idea reeks of zealotry. Look up what Fr. Seraphim Rose said on the issue.

@@Gigi-ho2qk Are you going to tell the thousands and more of Orthodox who’ve come into the church by chrismation that they are not really Orthodox? If my bishop says this is what we are going to do, then fine. But…this issue has been an ugly can of worms for a while now. It needs to be settled.

The belief that the rite is completely literal is an unbiblical one because chrismation is never mentioned within the Bible. In John 14, Jesus promised the Holy Spirit would come to all who believe in Him: "And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him.

Pretty sure laying on of hands and anointing to be sealed with the Holy Spirit is in the Bible. That's Chrismation which is Greek for "to anoint" or "anointing". You must take Holy Scripture as a whole, not pieces, to understand.
@johnnyd2383
@johnnyd2383 2 месяца назад
In the sacrament of Chrismation we receive “the seal of the gift of the Holy Spirit” (Rom 8; 1 Cor 6; 2 Cor 1,21-22). If baptism is our personal participation in Easter - the death and resurrection of Christ, then chrismation is our personal participation in Pentecost - the coming of the Holy Spirit upon us.
@johnsambo9379
@johnsambo9379 2 месяца назад
Chrismation is not mentioned in Scripture, and the meaning of chrismation is contrary to Scripture. Grace, God’s blessing on the undeserving, cannot be earned and still be called grace (Romans 11:6). The Holy Spirit comes upon all who believe, regardless of whether or not a specific rite is performed. Likewise, the performance of a rite will not convey the gift of the Holy Spirit in the absence of personal faith. Ephesians 1:13-14 clearly states, “Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession-to the praise of his glory.”

You are reading the text of the Bible without context. Annointing with oil is definitely Biblical. When it says "sealed" that is exactly what is said in the Chrismation portion of the service. Just like the word "Liturgia" is in the Bible, but it's translated "ministering unto the Lord." It's right there, but unless you understand the Greek and what the early Church practiced then it seems to be a mystery. Paul also says to follow what he taught them in person as well as by letter. 2 Tim. Keep the traditions you have been taught. Christianity was passed down from the Apostles to the first generation, and from that generation to the next. There were no bound, printed Bibles, just scrolls, the Didache. The Epistle of St. Ignatius of Antioch, etc. The end of John 6 is what convinced me that "in memory" is being misinterpreted. Leaving off the Eucharist and not believing it is His precious body and blood is the most terrible betrayal of Christ. It is definitely Satan's trick to undermine our relationship with the Lord.

NOT SURE IF YOU LIKE TO LIE OR JUST HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE OF SCRIPTURE? The primary purpose of anointing with the holy anointing oil was to sanctify, to set the anointed person or object apart as qodesh, or "holy" (Exodus 30:29). Originally, the oil was used exclusively for the priests and the Tabernacle articles, but its use was later extended to include kings (1 Samuel 10:1).
