In the superhero genre, villains aren’t interesting because they’re villains. They’re interesting because they are Active Protagonist in their own story giving it momentum whereas superheroes are often portrayed as being nothing more than Passive Protagonist, waiting for sh!t to happen to react too and that’s what makes them very boring by comparison.
@@jaimebarba619 Firstly, not correct. He had multiple great roles, the Joker was just his *greatest*. Secondly, the Joker was supposed to return in TDKR (3rd batman film). They had to rewrite the script and story. Thirdly, he was at his peak in the Joker role and was only going to get better and better as he was still very young at 28 years old. Imagine how great he would've been as the Joker in the 3rd movie with more time portraying him, more acting experience and more life experience in general. Why he was prescribed 3 different benzos; alprazolam (Xanax), diazepam (Valium) and temazepam (Restoril) AND on top of that 2 different potent opiates; oxycodone (OxyContin/Percocet) and hydrocodone (Vicodin/Norco), I will never understand. he was only going to get better and better
Excellent point considering the fictional dynamic between the joker and the bat, their entire thing has always been about maintaining their stance and not being corrupted by the other and they compliment one another
He gave the best performance of his career and it's very hard to compete with an actor who is just so good at the character but I agree totally it elevated the entire cast too. I found this one of the more emotional movies in the trilogy to watch. Just a solid 10 all around.
Crazy that Heath Ledger was only 27 when he played the Joker and 28 when he died. His acting skills for someone in their 20's was next level. RIP legend.
@@anthonytaylor7928 not recently and not THIS level of good. But I also guess it's just we haven't had this good of a character and a script in an action movie ever since. It was the perfect combination of the right actor, right script, right director and the right photography too. Not many young actors get a chance like this.
@@myBquest damson Idris . Timothy chalamet jarell Jerome and plenty more u need to broaden up it's a lot of good young actors out there Heath ledger was already a big name when he played joker u made a broad statement dude just because someone isn't a big name doesn't mean that they're not out there
Yeah he really does look at his face skin from going down and up in weight so much it takes it’s toll to give yourself to a roll and he’s done it several times
Dick Swinger! way too much credit these fucking douchebags get way too much credit acting isn't that fucking hard you get rid of the stage fright and that's it you fucking douchebags aren't special
I completely agree. Don't get me wrong the other one with Michael Keaton and Jack Nicolson is good but they all fail in comparison to the Dark Night trilogy. I wish so much that Christopher Nolan would continue making them and always use Christian Bale for Batman. Hands down some of my most favorite movies of all time.
I think it’s an extraordinary performance but I think Gary Oldman in Leon: The Professional is still my favorite. His character somehow scares me more than the Joker ever could. Also the scene where Gary Oldman plays Drexl in True Romance. It’s absurd that one actor has that much ability. Oldman was also in this film because of course he was!
@@joshuapatrick682 I really like Gary oldman, But I disagree With putting anything hes ever done above Heath Ledger's joker. We'll have to agree to disagree on it and you are certainly entitled to your opinion it's all subjective anyway
@@joshuapatrick682 you are a Gary Oldman fan we get it. I agree with everyone here, he was nothing compared to Heath in this movie, he carried this movie not Gary.
@@thefourhorsemen3159 Well...we'll agree to disagree then. So I'm a L & uncultured according to you because I don't follow that liberal idiot Hamill's career? That I don't know all the nuances to a comic book hero? LoL Weak. This specwar veteran face/palms at our society...at times like this.
I seriously cried when I heard on the radio that'd they'd found him. I'm only two years younger than him so it hit me hard how young he was. I'd been following his career since his days on Roar.
The scene with Heath leaning out of the cop car window while driving is a scene that I’ll remember the rest of my life, it was what I picture pure insanity is like.
As much as Heath was shining as the Joker, Christian portrayed the silent darkness lurking behind the immovable demeanour of the caped crusader.. And he nailed it.
During filming heath wanted bale to actually hit him to make the scene real when they were in the interrogation room. Shows his commitment to the role.
@@MoviesAtTheBar how? He would have got hit, took it, and finished the scene. What about that is bad? Not like he asked to get ko’d he just wanted to get hit hard so it’ll look believable.
@@ryanhammonds919 lol dude calm down...breathe...think....Bale is a big man, a method actor and in a big batsuut....If he hit Ledger it could of hurt him bad...hence he didn't do it
@@MoviesAtTheBar I am calm, tried to word my sentences in a calm way as well. You probably just read it in a different tone than I wrote it in. I get what you’re saying, bale was a big guy during Batman and could have have hurt him. You’re not getting what I’m saying, he wanted to get hit. You ever sparred before? If so then you can understand that you can hit someone without necessarily hurting them while also making it look like you actually hit him full power.
As much love as I want to give Heath, here, Bale's performance was spectacular as well. But having BOTH of them, arguably at their peak, in this film makes this one of my all time favorites. Pure brilliance from all involved.
I can't reply anywhere else so I'm replying to you.. lol. heath was so amazing in this Film its scary. he was the joker. best joker of all time. hands down.
Bale’s performance in TDK was absolutely not dull by comparison. There’s a ton of nuance to it. And he totally sells the man who realizes he has to sacrifice this symbol he’s created and which people have come to believe in, for the sake of his city.
The protagonist will always seem less interesting compared to an enigmatic and charming villain. It's probably the same psychological reason people go ham when they're playing GTA V, blow up half the city, steal helicopters and start mowing down cops 😂
I actually deeply appreciate the way Bale allowed Ledger to over shadow him, and the way he made Wayne become disoriented and small at moments. It was needed and Bale continued to kill it and was incredible in the end and throughout.
Heath's performance as the joker sets a really high standard for super hero films and really showed everyone how the joker is meant to be portrayed on the screen
Agree. No one will top his portrayal. The outrageous, but not campy realism, just knocked it out into space. Other may have a fave in the future, but I doubt any will top Heath.
I saw this movie in the theaters. The first week came out and they was literally a standing ovation at the end of the movie until the end of the credits, I’ve been to a lot of movies in the theaters and not once have I seen anything like it
@@michaellavery4899 yeah, Forrest Gump got a round of applause and one other one. I can’t remember maybe it was saving Private Ryan not Forrest Gump but either way I’ve seen movies that I’ve gotten rounds of applause but not a standing ovation for 3 or 4 minute credit scenes.
Props to Mark Hamill for his amazing iconic voice of Joker everyone has come to know from the animated features too. All 3 of these guys are just chef’s kiss
@@Kameleonic not on the same level as Heath, but Joaquin did great. He seemed more of a troubled, disturbed, weird Joker while Heaths was sinister, almost vicious, and very funny at the same time. Oh and that laugh!
I love the way Heath portrayed the Joker. I believe he studied the behavior of hyenas and used it for this? He took bits and pieces from all kinds of things to bring the Joker to life and it was incredible!
Heath put on such a legendary performance that every other person who would ever attempt to play Joker automatically comes up short. Can’t think of too many other performances that have had that effect. Marlon Brando in The Godfather comes to mind
Their performance is epic and legendary... I remember watching it the first time,.. I was literally fixated at the screen and during moments was in cold chills. RIP Heath, you will always be missed.
@@mediocrejokre For sure, in an interview with Aaron Eckhart (Harvey Dent) he described the scene he did with Heath for the Hospital scene, and how before they started filming the scene Heath was talking to himself in the corner and paced around muttering and making grunting sounds. I recommend watching, it was a Larry King interview.
He was ahead of the curve. The first Heath film I watched was a knights tale and damn was that one of the coolest movies I’ve ever watched especially bc the soundtrack was so amazing at how it just went fantastic with the scenes.
How are you defining faultless? Because there were a shit ton of really really good action movies after Terminator 2 I would probably consider faultless.
@@no0ne_kenobi209 man you got me curious.. name us a few. And you make a good point about 'faultless'..that could mean something different to us. I have an idea as to what OP meant but some clarification would be good just to have a good debate on action movies
🦇🃏 Christian Bale is my favourite Batman ,he plays him brilliantly, and Heath Ledger is absolutely stunning as The Joker , he's definitely the best one ever in the films at least. This is also my favourite film out of the franchise too. ❤ RIP Heath , miss you being around.
His Joker had all of the physical aspects of canon, but his work on the Character of the Joker gave me chills. I've worked with mental patients before and Heath gave me the same skittering chill up my spine that the scariest psychopaths at the mental hospital gave me. The kind of jump out of my skin unease that only comes when the fight or flight instincts are triggered. What a masterful portrayal and sadly just the tip of the iceberg for what he could have achieved. A legendary performance.
@@dgcaz1 Agree. So real, like watching a documentary, not an actor. Only a handful of films really reach out and grab me, or give actual chills. That performance was mind blowing, and the feeling repeats every time I see snippet like this. - Cheers
If Heath survived and we got the original 3rd movie plan, then it would be the greatest DC big screen production ever. The Dark Knight is arguably the best (arguably), but if the Joker could’ve returned and teamed with Bane and Scarecrow to push Batman to his limits too the point where he would have to decide if it was worth becoming the villain to save others, it would’ve been special
@@randomlyfactual1943 Well if that’s your opinion then fair enough, but that’s exactly why I said arguably because just how many would agree with you, there’s also a large quantity of people who would agree with me that Zack Snyder’s Justice League is #1. And even though you’ll no doubt have more who agree with you because of the poor development of the DCEU that lead up too Snyder’s JL, I personally think that the reception and the quality of his JL movie despite having the world going against it just speaks for how good it actually was as opposed to the Dark Knight movie doing great following a movie that was highly praised and attracted a lot of interest
@@Jack-hb4dm I love ZSJL. It was a bit long, truthfully, but man, I loved it. Why I think Dark Knight is the greatest, is because it showed us what a superhero movie could be. It showed us that comic book movies doesn't have to be campy, there doesn't need to be winking at the camera. If suspension of disbelief is anything to go by, TDK did it with aplomb. In the end, it doesn't matter. It's like debating whether Godfather part one or two were better.
Recently watched Brokeback Mountain again. I still can’t wrap my heard around that Heath did the Joker. He was so cool and down-to-Earth in BM, and so bombastic in Dark Knight, him dying at 28 is an absolute injustice.
While I don't think the others are as good, I would not say they are just in it for the paycheck. Changing physique significantly for a role is never easy, and if you are given the time of batman, even if you aren't the best person for the job I think each actor did they their best. Also you are missing Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy, amazing voice actors
Christian Bale is the Best Batman. He was funny brooding emotional. All the characteristics you needed for the part. It’s just a testament to how great Heath was. Liam Neesan Cillian Murphy Tom Hardy. A amazing. Gary Oldman as well.
Heath ledger and what a performance Mr Christian, and look where he wound up, into the Joker where the joke was played on the Joker, and the next one is on the Batman, when we're really in trouble when Batman beats up Superman that's when we really in trouble.
