Have you ever wondered what the difference is between Catholicism and Protestantism? In this video, we’ll cover both religious denominations and compare and contrast each in simple terms.
Catholicism is a major branch of Christianity that traces its origins back to the life and teachings of Jesus Christ in the first century AD. The word "Catholic" comes from the Greek word katholikos, which means "universal," indicating the global scope of the religion. The early history of Catholicism can be traced back to the apostles, who were the followers of Jesus Christ. According to Catholic tradition, the apostle Peter was the first bishop of Rome, and he was succeeded by a line of popes who have led the Catholic Church for over two thousand years. The Catholic Church teaches that the pope is the spiritual leader of the Church, and his authority is derived from the apostolic succession of the bishops of Rome.
Protestantism is a major branch of Christianity that originated in the 16th century as a result of the Protestant Reformation, a religious and political movement that sought to reform the Catholic Church and challenge its teachings and practices. The movement was led by a number of prominent figures, including Martin Luther, John Calvin, and Huldrych Zwingli, who called for a return to the biblical teachings of Christianity and a rejection of many of the traditions and practices of the Catholic Church.
Here are some of the main differences between Catholicism and Protestantism:
Authority: Catholics believe that the Bible and the traditions of the church are equally authoritative, whereas Protestants believe that the Bible alone is the ultimate authority.
Salvation: Catholics believe that salvation is a lifelong process that involves both faith and good works, whereas Protestants believe that salvation is obtained through faith alone.
Sacraments: Catholics believe in the seven sacraments, including the
Eucharist, confession, and baptism, while most Protestants only recognize two sacraments, baptism and the Lord's Supper.
Clergy: Catholicism has a hierarchical structure with priests, bishops, and the pope, while most Protestant denominations have a more decentralized structure without a single central authority.
Worship: Catholic liturgy tends to be more formal and structured, while Protestant worship can vary greatly depending on the denomination, with some services being more traditional and others more contemporary.
Mary and the Saints: Catholics venerate Mary and the saints, whereas most Protestants do not.
Purgatory: Catholics believe in the existence of purgatory, a state of purification after death, while most Protestants do not.

So, Jesus taught his deciples, a specific truth, the apostles taught that same truth that still is taught today and it's ok to change those teachings willy-nilli? Jesus could have briefly taught, "Glory be to God & Jesus is Lord" ... and that's all that counts ... later!

@gabepettinicchio7454 i don't know what you're driving at with your reply to my comment of, "All glory to God. Jesus is Lord." Rather than typing out a lengthy defense of one side as opposed to the other side based on my personal beliefs, i preferred to proclaim Christ's authority over all. We all exist, ultimately, for the glory of God, and the core truth that Jesus taught, that you spoke of, is that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. We can only by reconciled back to God by grace through faith in Him, not of ourselves. It is a gift. Everything in Christianity flows from the greatest commandment... Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength. This is and should be the foundation for any Catholic, Protestant, or Orthodox Christian. That's what i was driving at

Great video! I would add a couple details: 1. Both Catholics and Protestants believe in a state of purification after death, though they differ on what that looks like. 2. The main difference in belief (by my lights) comes down to both groups' beliefs about apostolic succession (aka. the unbroken chain of authority from the original Apostles). Catholics believe that this authority is passed down, whereas most Protestants don't. This is why Protestants hold to the written scriptures as the highest authority instead of the church.

many protestant believe that faith without goodwork is dead. That faith need goodwork and vice-versa, however they don't belive that human work can make us worth of salvation by itself, sice all human are sinful in some stand. We belive salvation is a gradual divine gift, that show the heart of God as someone willing to save and sanctify humanity, that he called us by mercy and not because we deserved or can achieve it by human works. We belive he transformes us through a faith that is manifested by goodwork.

Evangelicals are a movement within Protestantism. It's more popular in some denominations than others, for instance, a lot of Baptists consider themselves Evangelical. Also many Evangelicals identify as non-denominational Protestants, which means that they don't affiliate with any particular Protestant church, but they do consider themselves Protestant. Evangelical Protestantism stresses a number of things, here's a list. 1. Congregationalist/non-hierarchical structure. Evangelicals are very wary of any kind of hierarchical structure to their churches; they like things decentralized and distrust hierarchical institutions. This is common within the broader Protestant community. After all, one of the main reasons Protestant broke away from Catholicism in the first place is because they didn't like the hierarchy of the pope, bishops, etc. It's just that different groups within Protestantism took it to different levels, and Evangelicals are among those that take it to the most extreme. 2. Strict definition of "sola scriptura" ("scripture alone" in Latin). All Protestants profess to believe in the Bible as the only infallible authority on faith and morals, in contrast to Catholicism, which believes that the traditions passed down from the Apostles are also infallible. But again, some take it to different extremes than others. Some Protestants, like Anglicans, believe that it's okay to have other authorities like bishops, as long as it's understood that these authorities are not infallible and can make mistakes. Evangelicals are unlikely to have any other authorities than the Bible, so if they don't like what a given preacher says, then there is less pressure on them to stay in his church, so they will be more likely to go do their own thing. This is in contrast to Anglicans, for instance, who would probably submit to their church hierarchy even if they don't like what they said. 3. An emphasis on evangelism (converting non-faithfuls to their faith). This is actually encouraged in all branches of Christianity, not just Protestantism. For example, Catholicism and Orthodoxy both encourage evangelism. And really, I think whatever your point of view is, it makes sense. If you believe a certain thing is true, then of course you're going to try to convince others that it's true, converting them to your beliefs. Evangelicals often participate in evangelism in (surprise, surprise) very decentralized ways like door-to-door knocking or holding signs up at different events. In short, Evangelicals are a very individualist breed of Protestant who basically want to read and interpret the Bible for themselves, develop their relationship Jesus how they please, and spread the Christian message how they please. They view hierarchies and traditions with serious distrust. Is this a good thing? Well, I'm Catholic, and so I think the hierarchies and traditions that they oppose so strongly were inspired by Christ's teachings, so naturally I think that Evangelicalism is a bad thing. I freely concede that many Evangelicals are very good people, and many are some of the best Christians I know. I just think their reasoning is built on false assumptions. But at the same time, they think the same about me, as they don't believe that Catholic hierarchy and tradition (or any other hierarchy and tradition) were inspired by God. Now, there's more to Evangelicals than that - for instance, they like to be really loud on hot-button political issues like abortion and gay marriage, but their actual views on the subject aren't really weird for a Christian group. Almost all of Christianity forbids abortion and most denominations (including Catholicism) forbid gay marriage, but Evangelicals are especially known for how much they focus on these issues at the political level. That's why you see Evangelicals popping up on news articles so much.

I wish this video would go a little more in depth to understand why the protest reformation happened. The Bible teaches we should not bow down to statues, the Roman Catholic Church says we should bow down to statues. The Bible teaches baptism should be by immersion, the Roman Catholic Church teaches sprinkling of water is enough and a more convenient form of baptism. The Bible teaches we should call no religious leader father, the Roman Catholic teaches we may call the priest, bishop or the pope father. “ father tony, father Peter, father John etc “. The Bible teaches that there is only one mediator between god and man, the Roman Catholic Church teaches that Mary is a co mediator. So these are just a few examples theologically, and there are many more of how widely they differ. Someone might ask, but why are these so important? The answer, is that historically many people died defending these truths, and were persecuted for their faith. If you wish to learn more about this subject, there is a really well made documentary, called “Revelation, The Bride, The Beast, and Babylon” from Amazing Facts… take care!

It teaches that baptism is immersion instead of pouring (Rom. 6:4; Col. 2:12). Actually, the Catholic Church does not teach against immersion, and that is obviously a valid way for baptism. That said, neither of those passages say in order for a baptism to be valid, it must be done only in immersion. Actually, the Bible speaks quite clearly that other ways of baptism are valid as well. For example, when Ezekiel specifically speaks of the New Covenant, God says, Eze. 36:25-27: 25 I will sprinkle clean water upon you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. 26 A new heart I will give you, and a new spirit I will put within you; and I will take out of your flesh the heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to observe my ordinances. Notice that in the new covenant, the water that is sprinkled brings the Holy Spirit. Obviously, it can not be limited to immersion. Another example, in Acts 16, when the jailer is baptized with his whole household (Acts 16:30-34). Paul goes with the jailer to his home, and baptizes the household there, in the middle of the night. There was no lake where they were immersed. In the houses back then, there were no facilities anywhere in a house, where they could get immersed. It is obviously that either sprinkling (as written by Ezekiel) or pouring could be the only way that the jailer and his family could get baptized😃😃

There is only one mediator between Man and God. The Catholic Catechism clearly states four times that Jesus is the ONLY mediator between God and Man (Paragraphs 618, 956, 1544, and 2574)✨✨ Christ's role as the only mediator is that he sacrificed himself for the remission of sin. The Catholic Church has always believed that Jesus Christ is the one mediator between God and man. It is the death and resurrection of Jesus alone by which people are saved. We have never called her the so called co mediator. “Mediatrix” is explained. For no creature could ever be counted as equal with the Incarnate Word and Redeemer. Just as the priesthood of Christ is shared in various ways both by the ministers and by the faithful, and as the one goodness of God is really communicated in different ways to His creatures, so also the unique mediation of the Redeemer does not exclude but rather gives rise to a manifold cooperation which is but a sharing in this one source. The Church does not hesitate to profess this subordinate role of Mary. It knows it through unfailing experience of it and commends it to the hearts of the faithful, so that encouraged by this maternal help they may the more intimately adhere to the Mediator and Redeemer. 😃😃The Church’s perspective of Mary as subordinate, as any member of the faithful would be😁😁

Hi, thank you for this brief comparison. I am not an expert, but wasn't the language factor one of the decisive ones of the Protestantism popularity at the time of its appearance? Catholic church service by the time was only made in Latin language. Simple people did not undesrtand it. Luther translated the Bible, and common people understood the Word of God.

Wrong. Luther spent the winter in w castle rewriting the available German vulgate so it sounded better to his ears. The duey reins English version was available and other vulgates. At the time educated meant rich and they all studied Latin. All the Catholics were well versed in the meaning of the Latin mass. Even now most know many of the prayers of mass in Latin. Indulgences can't be sold. They're also stupidly easy to get.

Bible reading is a Protestant tradition,the Catholic Church didn’t want their laity reading the bible,they believed that the priest should interpret the scripture to the congregation. The Catholic Church wanted an uneducated population with no access to the bible. Protestant countries allowed everyone to read the bible,there was no catholic equivalent to that.

That's because there is a difference, catholics will go to hell for not obeying God's commands, they think they are saved by telling a human their sins, when the Bible and God says that only God can forgive sins, so don't think they are the same as Christians! Don't act like all religions are the same and we should all get along, people that are brain washed like you will lose their Salvation, it's up to Christians to spread the truth to these false religion's, and catholic religion has always had pagan traditions mixed in to it. I don't understand why this channel thinks they are alike at all? Catholics have fallen for the lies of the devil, and are nothing more now than tools of the devil, they are teaching people how to go to hell unknowingly, they are fools for catholic traditions instead of the word of God, just like the Pharisees all over again, the blind won't see,and call them the same as Christians, so wake up and learn each religion, and their flaws, before you think we are going to get along, Christianity isn't really a religion, it's a following of Jesus Christ, and his words, and works, tell you what make two list on one list put Christianity and on the other list put religion, and mark done all the different religions that have works for salvation, and they will be on the religion list, because it is a man made lie to control society, all works are as filthy rags says our Lord God, it's his mercy for us, not what we do, you can't bribe a good judge to get off, how are you going to bribe the judge of the world to get off, are you getting my point yet? Do as Jesus does, and have faith in him, and love everybody, and help everyone to see the flaws in religion, just like his disciples, that's what's commanded of us anyways. My paternal grandmother was an adherent of the Roman Church when my dad was born in 1905. In the 1920s, dad’s disagreements with SOME of the doctrines led him to decide he could no longer call himself “Catholic”. I was the eldest of four siblings. Dad made sure we understood the differences between what he had been taught as a boy in catechism classes compared to the beliefs he developed as an adult based on his study of the Bible and history. So, of course, I always considered Dad to be protestant. Dad repeatedly advised me, “Read for yourself, study for yourself and think for yourself. So my belief system is personal - not institutional. Please don’t “blame” my belief system on Dad or anyone else. I think there are two tendencies among protestants that are worth noting, if for no other reason than to offer alternatives to those ways of thinking. 1: Some people seem intent on rejecting EVERY doctrine they consider to be papal. Dad didn’t do that and I don’t either. I think people who do that can’t be truly objective in their study of the Bible. If a person claims to not agree with any of the doctrines of the Roman Church, I consider that person’s beliefs to be based more on prejudice than on actual study of the evidence. 2: Often, when people have said they were “saved”, I've asked “Saved from what?” At least 95% have used the same answer, word for word, “Hell fire.” I suspect they are more interested in salvation from the penalty for sin than in being saved from sin. For anyone who might see this as a problem, I suggest the following: I see salvation as having at least three aspects: justification, sanctification and glorification - what the Lord has done for me, what he is doing for me and what he will do for me. For that reason, I never volunteer, “I am saved”, “I have been saved” or “I was saved”. When people ask me whether I’m saved, I answer in the affirmative because I have reason to think they are asking whether I’m justified (forgiven). I think it is wise in most cases to not try immediately to explain that there is more to salvation than God’s forgiveness. I think, however, that if someone asks me that question, it gives me “permission” to speak with him later about spiritual matters in an attempt to determine whether he is interested in learning new ways to trust the Lord.

The biggest issue that need solved is why the Catholic Bible has more books in it than other denominations or non-denominations. Only one side of that choice is right so who is correct on which books should be in the Bible and which should not be? Those books known as the apocrypha in the Catholic are where the idea of purgatory and praying to the dead come from. So that is why they need to solve who is right on if those books should be in the Bible or not.

The deuterocanonical books have been there since the 4th century council of Rome. Luther's rewritten bible contained them, but he complained about them. He also said James was an epistle of straw he wanted to burn. The books were expunged from protestant bibles in 19th century after strong pressure from the Scottish Edinburgh bible society which published bibles. Their meeting notes still exist. They expunged them bc they support catholic doctrine.

I am catholic. This is a problematic view that results in misunderstanding what the catechism actually teaches. Catechism of the Catholic Church - Paragraph # 80 80 "Sacred Tradition and Sacred Scripture, then, are bound closely together, and communicate one with the other. For both of them, flowing out from the same divine well-spring, come together in some fashion to form one thing, and move towards the same goal." To believe that a body of broken humans could perfectly preserve what the old church did is naive. It is only by the grace of God that we have preserved what we have to begin with! History has recorded well what evil has been done in the name of the church. It is a saving grace that God is a more merciful judge than history.

You left out a MAJOR event in 1054 AD.....the Great Schism. The Orthodox Church is also catholic, (katolikos means universal in greek) and Apostolic, we hold to apostolic succession in Antioch, Constantinople, Alexandria and Jerusalem just like the roman-catholics do in Rome. We however, have not changed any major theological doctrines since the 4th century when the Creed was first formulated, and back then there was only one unified Church in both West and East. The Roman Catholic Church has changed some major doctrines of previous pre-Schism theology: 1. The Creed, by introducing "and the Son", claiming the Spirit proceeds from the Son as well, which is a poor understanding of the greek text and the idea of the Spirit proceeding *from* the Father eternally but also being able to come down *through* the Son, which is not the same as the Filioque doctrine of double eternal procession. 2. Introduced Purgatory, this straight-up comes from greek paganism is not backed up by any Scripture or church fathers teachings in history. 3. Idea of Papal infalibility, also straight-up negating history of the equality of the original 5 Patriarchs. 4. Serious differences on natural theology and the understanding of the Trinity itself when it comes to the eternality of God vs the actions of the hypostatis, most of this is concentrated in Thomas Aquinas.

Praying the rosary is promoted within the Catholic Church as a means of strengthening one’s faith, resisting evil, growing spiritually, and generally benefiting society. While some of the prayer of the rosary is scriptural, the whole second half of the “Hail Mary” and portions of the “Hail, Holy Queen” are blatantly unbiblical. While the first part of the Hail Mary is almost a direct quotation from Luke 1:28, there is no scriptural basis for (1) praying to Mary, (2) addressing her as “holy,” or (3) calling her “our life” and “our hope.” Praying the rosary involves giving attributes to Mary that the Bible never gives her. To call Mary “holy”-the Catholic Church teaches that Mary never sinned or had any taint of original sin-is not biblical. The Bible calls all believers “saints,” which can be interpreted as “holy ones,” but Scripture says that the righteousness believers have is the imputed righteousness from Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21). In this life, no one is yet sanctified from sin in practice (1 John 1:9-2:1). Jesus is called our Savior repeatedly in Scripture because He saved us from our sin. In Luke 1:47, Mary calls God her “Savior.” Savior from what? A sinless person does not need a Savior. Sinners need a Savior. Mary acknowledged that God was her Savior. Therefore, Mary acknowledged that she was a sinner. Jesus came to save us from our sins (Matthew 1:21). The Roman Catholic Church claims that Mary was saved from sin differently from everyone else-that she was saved from sin through the immaculate conception (her being conceived free of sin). But is this teaching scriptural? The Roman Catholic Church openly admits that this doctrine is not found in Scripture. When a young man addressed Jesus as “good Master” (Matthew 19:16-17), Jesus asked why he called Him “good” since there is none good but one, God. Jesus was trying to make the young man aware that he was using the term good too loosely. In praying the rosary, Catholics use the term holy too loosely. No one, including Mary, is holy but God. This ties in with Romans 3:10-23, Romans 5:12, and countless other passages that stress the fact that in God’s eyes no one measures up. Never is Mary excluded from such all-encompassing statements. But praying the rosary has an even more basic problem, namely, that much of the prayer is directed to Mary, not to God. We are never told in the Bible whether anyone else in heaven can even hear us. God alone is all-knowing, all-powerful, and all-present. When Jesus taught His disciples to pray, He taught them to address their prayers to God the Father. Every example of prayer in the Bible is addressed to God alone. There is never a single example of someone praying to any “saint” or angel or anyone else (besides prayers to false gods). Further, any time that a pious person prostrates himself (in a religious setting) to honor someone else besides God (chiefly to the apostles or angels), he is told to get up, to stop it (Acts 10:25-26; 14:13-16; Matthew 4:10; Revelation 19:10; 22:8-9). The Roman Catholic Church states that it worships God alone but “venerates” Mary and the saints. What is the difference? A person praying the rosary spends more time calling out to Mary than to God. For every one praise of God in the rosary, there are ten praises of Mary! Praying the rosary also assigns a task to Mary that the Bible never assigns her. Jesus is our Redeemer (Galatians 3:13; 4:4-5; Titus 2:14; 1 Peter 1:18-19; Revelation 5:9), our heavenly Advocate (1 John 2:1), and our one and only Mediator (1 Timothy 2:5). The “Hail, Holy Queen” portion of the rosary prayer calls Mary our “most gracious advocate.” This is a direct contradiction of the clear biblical teaching that only Jesus is our go-between. Praying the rosary requires Catholics to call upon Mary as the “holy Queen.” The only time in Scripture that the title “Queen of Heaven” is found, the term is used in a negative way (Jeremiah 7:17-19; 44:16-27). The Bible never pictures Mary as a queen; rather, she calls herself “the Lord’s servant” (Luke 1:38). She is never given a crown or authority over heaven and earth. Likewise, is it appropriate, while praying the rosary, to call Mary our “life” and “hope”? Again, these are terms that are used of God alone in Scripture (John 1:1-14; Colossians 3:4; 1 Timothy 1:1; Ephesians 2:12; Titus 2:13). The practice of saying the rosary runs contrary to Scripture in a number of ways. Only God can hear our prayers. Only God can answer our prayers. We have one intermediary (Jesus), and it is in His name we pray, not Mary’s.

I have read the line in revelation saying the saints are praying ceaselessly to God. The lady of the apocalypse in revelation crowning Mary as queen of heaven. God's intercessionary nature in speaking through the prophets and the disciples. And Jesus communicating with the dead prophets in the transfiguration. Also our encouragement to pray for each-other and the reality of eternal life in heaven. Mary cloaked in the sun and in the moon. All of these readings point towards Marian veneration as Scriptural. Given that your interpretation is different from mine. How are we to arbiter who is or is not correct?

Catholics believe that we are saved by grace through faith in Christ Jesus. Works are not necessary for this salvation, but we live out our response in loving acts through the fruits of the Spirit. Faith is not only an assent to knowledge of and belief in Christ, but acting out in love as a show of that belief. Jesus said, “My Spirit I leave you, my Spirit I give you.” Also in John 14:12, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. Christ came to serve, not to be served. His acts and words become our own as we imitate Christ through the guidance of His Holy Spirit. Daily, I pray for the salvation of souls, the reparation of sins, and the reunion of all Christians. My parish is immersed in studies of the Bible outside of Mass. No priest tells us what to think. That we don’t study the Bible or are not encouraged to seek Jesus by any means than the priest are falsehoods spoken by those who do not know Catholics. If you get your information only from non-Catholic sources, you do yourself a disservice. It is opinion based and in many cases non-factual. Read or watch Father Mike Schmitz, Trent Horn, Brant Pitre, Jimmy Akin, Scott Hahn, or Jeff Cavins for the true Catholic teachings. Some things in the video and written by those commenting are untrue. May the peace of the Lord be with you all.

The narrator in this video misrepresented some key facts concerning the Catholic Church. He stated that it was not until after Constantine decriminalized Catholicism that the Church began to develop certain traditions such as the Sacraments, and Purgatory and Veneration of the Saints, most especially Mary, the Mother of God. All of these doctrines were taught from the very beginning..........from Day 1. You heard him say that Jesus founded the Catholic Church so you must know that it was the Catholic Church that wrote every single word of the NT. And the teachings of the Catholic Church in the Bible have not changed in 2000 years, nor will they ever change.

My ignorance of Scripture and of history and of what the Catholic Church actually taught were quite a bit different than what I held to be true at that time. What I said in my previous post may seem "extreme" to some, but to everyone that is in the know, there is nothing at all that is extreme in my post. I would love to have a conversation with you if you care to. I think that you may be as shocked as I was, and the same can be said of many of those that have come home to the Catholic Church. Honestly, the most shocking thing that I discovered about all of this is that the Truth is hidden in plain sight for all to see. That is for those that really want to know the Truth. God bless.

Ephesians 2:8-9
@purgatorean
@purgatorean Месяц назад
@@Ddntitmattrwhtuthnk Yes, I love that verse....."by Grace you have been saved through Faith........ One of our Catholic Bishops wrote that verse. His name was Paul, and as a Catholic Bishop he wrote letters to many Catholic Churches. Notice how Paul is speaking in past tense about their Salvation. He was writing to the already saved members of the Catholic Church in Ephesus. That's an extremely important point that you Protestants always tend to miss. Protestants love to isolate verses away from the rest of the Gospel message. So let's see why it's really important that you get a handle on what is really going on with that verse. The first question you should ask, if you really care about the Salvation of Souls is when exactly did those that were saved receive the Grace that saved them? For that answer we need to back it up a bit to the very beginning of the New Covenant Church. For that we turn to Acts chapter 2, which is the Biblical Blueprint for Sacramental Salvation. In Acts 2 we read about Pentecost, which is the Grand Opening of the Church. This is the Day that God introduces the world to the Holy Spirit. This is the Day that God introduces the world to His Saving Grace in the Sacraments. This is the Day that sets the stage for how the rest of the Bible is to be interpreted. God made no mistakes on this Day so Protestants should really pay attention to the events of Pentecost. So now I would invite you to read Acts 2 and then answer this question: when did those 3000 converts to the Faith receive God's Saving Grace? Was it when they first believed, or was it when they received the Catholic Sacrament of Baptism? Were they saved by faith alone, or were they saved by Grace in the Sacraments? Now go back and read Ephesians 2:8-9 once again and ask how those Ephesians were saved? The way people were saved on Pentecost is the way they were saved in Ephesus and Galatia and Rome and Thessalonica and everywhere else in the world right down to this very day in all places and in all time. Nothing has changed since Pentecost.

We have to stand alone and will be evaluated by how we responded to scripture and Jesus Christ. There is a lot of doctrine out there that is irrelevant or contrary to what God is expecting. The Bible set His standards for us. So you can trust it. We are called to freedom. Why make it harder for yourself when the Christian (or Messianic Jew) is saved already by grace? For example, when I became a believer I was so thrilled that I didn't have to observe the abstinence rules (Romans 14:17, I Timothy 4:3). Another practice not in the Bible is the recitation of the rosary (Matthew 6:7-9). It's not Christian faith. Jesus Christ's work is complete. Trust Him alone. At issue (in the Reformation) was 'Justification', or 'How someone, standing before the Judgement seat of God, could justify their Salvation.' To Catholics, it was a combination of one's "works" + "the redemptive act of Christ on the Cross ie. The Holy Gospel). To Luther, it was purely a matter of God's 'Grace' that one is saved, as it comes to us through 'Faith'. Hence the motto 'Grace thru Faith'. We cannot aid in anyway our Salvation, because that is a pure act of a loving God who saves us from Sin, and how it leads to our death (and estrangement from God). In Vatican II, the Catholics finally conceded this view. This view is supported by the Bible ("Holy Scriptures") and sound reasoning of the Gospel.

Catholic means universal, as the Church of Christ was meant to go around the world/nations from the apostles its called Apostolic. The "denominational thing" begun at 1054, saddly. There is nothing outside the truth, only schisms. The original teaching remained within the roman community, then the Roman Church. Everyone were once from the universal Church, catholic one, apostolic one. I stay because its the truth, the eucharisty remain intact pure and real. The symbolic view started with Luther, saddly most protestant doesnt even know what eucharisty is, even having the fraction of the bread in the bible... that's sad, really sad! I use to share 2 passages: John 6 48-53 and 1 corintians 18-34, so people would question themselves, why people lost the meaning of this "bread of life", even lost respect towards the idea that Jesus literally become present, not spiritually, not virtually, not symbolically, but literally as the scripture infers. He wanted to share his flesh, but our senses would fail to distingish, that's another motive why apostle St. Paul was very critic to the corinthians in the first place. We lack respect during mass many times. We should be anxious as the the sunday is coming nearby, even more as the mass is starting Are we preparing our hearts every time? or we are treating it as a "social encounter" with the gospel? If was to hear the gospel, i would stay home, but the mass is has another and ultimate importance! Oh, by the stories you hear from the saints of what happen during mass, we would be more contemplative than usual. I fail many times, and i still need to remember myself many times. Human being is so pitful, we tend to distract and give focus to our problems, while our king is there... just ask His love, to share Your cross with Him, to maintaing your jorney to holiness as you tend to sin. We are sinful, far from sainthood, but we need to archieve it anyway. If we just believe in lord, without pursuing charity amoung our brothers, how pitful we are! We didnt understood the gospel and the letters! and we dare to think we are close to holiness! Such pride make us patetical creatures. The saints had those "insights", we need more and more of those. Christ is very mercyfull and full of love, because we are unworthy in many ways... to see how holy is His mother, without sin, created perfectly, how much respect you should be around her memory, as Luke 1:42 states: "..."Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. " also at Luke 1:48 "...behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed. ". If some remember from psalm 45, there is more from the verse 18: "I will extol your name through all generations; therefore, the nations will praise you forever and ever." when refering to the Queen and Bride of the King, whose she bow down before him, being her Lord.
