Feel bad for this guy honestly. This guy could have grown up with so much more potential had it not of been for this religion, but we will never know just how badly it rots a human mind.
@@lorenzolucifuge1653 It's a sociopathic tendency to say that showing empathy is a weakness, the irony is that I can guarantee you expect others to show empathy to you, and in fact you likely have a strong victim complex based on your perception that others don't show you enough empathy and/or recognition. You're a toxic dude, Lorenzo.
It's also weird in how the same story was described between the different gospels, in one account, Jesus curses the fig tree then, a day later he and his disciples returned to find the fig tree withered. In another Jesus curses the fig tree and it withers on the spot, there's no mention of a second trip back to it.
@@Mewse1203 No no, half of the conversation is first of all figuring out where they went wrong and trying to get them to even admit that. You kind of need to first explain their own idea and the implications to them, which ironicly often takes a while. I think Jimmys eternal hell would be having to debate christians for forever, while they only make really small progress. He is done with one when he admits the whole thing and is no longer a christian.
@@ann18o96 A better hell would be, where they gave the impression of making progress, but in actuallity, they'd be developing a new mistaken interpertation, and this cycles endlesslty between them. Having your hope crushed over and over again, but it always coming back just a little is the worst.
@@lourdesjohnston7339 There are others to blame too, but he sure can be blamed. Come on, some people don't get indoctrinated and others deconstruct. Sergio is willfully ignorant.
When I hear this type of theist, I am so glad that I grew up in an almost religion-free environment. Because it's just extremely irritating for me what religion does to people's minds.
Me too mate. I just can't imagine living like this. Life is enough of a challenge and mystery naturally, let alone without this added layer of absurd superstition and woo woo on top. This guy is literally living in a fantasy that was made up by ancient goat herders.
@@rentiap It really makes you wonder why some people believe it and some don't. The believers are just naturally less skeptical and are more gullible I guess.
It’s also irrelevant. Many religious apologists have finally started to realize that they still can’t prove any god exists, so they try to talk about anything other than their failure to prove a god exists. Young children often try the same tactic when they realize nobody is buying their lies.🤤
They have to believe that because they're utterly terrified of losing their own beliefs. Deep down they know it's all fairy tales, and they try to convince themselves first that they're not doubting, so that they're different than those that doubted and got out of religion.
@HeavyMeddle301aint no defense for it, claiming that others arent true believers is almost saying "you just dont have the faith i do, and you lack belief" that isnt for us to decide in their religion, its up to god and their hubris FORCES them to judge and ridicule
When I was in first or second grade, a classmate asked me what I wanted from Santa Claus? I told him that Santa wasn't real, Donny proceeded to have a fit, asserting that Santa was too real, I remember I walk away thinking he would figure it out someday. Unfortunately for some people someday never comes.
Wait....Santa isn't real 😢... I thought I saw him at the mall...if Santa isn't real abd I can see him. How about god who I never see anywhere... oops...😂😂😂
This is the first time to me that the atheists came across as a little petty and pedantic initially with all the 'jesus sins too' argument, but I'm new to this show and to atheism/agnosticism.
I remember feeling the terror of trying to defend my Christian beliefs. Being honest is profoundly freeing, and now I can defend my positions without worry.
This guy was utterly wrong about every single thing he said. A classic case of someone not being smart enough to understand he had no clue. Basically Dunning-Kruger syndrome.
@@davemaier68theist and smart are oximorons. Anyone willing to allow themselves to blindly accept an answer without questioning it and verifying it is in fact not smart. That is what a theist does. They take their religion as the answer and try to make the evidence fit. It doesn't work that way.
Can you kindly show me where he was wrong on the getting the donkey part? Seems like it was a peaceful transaction. (no struggle, no lies, no stealth, no argument) as if the owner or caretaker of the donkey knew who Jesus was and had no issue sending it to him.
He's just trawled through the Bible on a mission to find one reference to something he claimed before, and admits he's failed (!) - no wonder he sounds deeply depressed!
This is it exactly. If the bible is the perfect word of the lord, then there CANT be any misinterpretations or disagreements about it. Checkmate Godlickers!
@@pennymitchell8523 It would be an interesting experiment to have say 10 questions that dug into the details of god and ask them to people who share the same denomination then compare their answers. I've been asking very specific and detailed questions to theists for a while and you get wildly different varieties of answers.
I feel so sorry for Sergio. He's obviously been told this stuff and truly believes it, but he doesn't seem capable of assessing whether it's actually true or not.
I think he is capabable of that. Because the panic in his voice sounds to me like exactly that. He just doesn't want to aknowledge what is happening out of fear
I think even when I "believed," I didn't believe. I tried really hard to believe and played the part for 30 years. When I was finally honest with myself, I discovered I was an atheist.
How do these people negotiate reality? Why is the shop assistant rude, when god looks after me? Why did that car crash into me? Why is it raining when I prayed for sunshine? It must be freakin' maddening. 🙃🇦🇺
I bet if they just knocked on the owners door and said "hey, theres going to be a big celebration the whole village is going to be there, we need to borrow your donkeys, come with us, its going to be fun- drinks on us" the owner would have come and be saved to Christ and allowed them to borrow his donkeys...
Nobody cares that you watch the whole shows 😆. No offense, but what does that comment add to your love of these shorter clips? (I don’t watch the full shows - I always forward through the god-awful opening music, oy!)
@@donfette5301I couldn't care less if you - or anyone else cares what I like. My comment was really addressed to Jimmy and the rest of the crew of The Line, in an attempt to keep these coming and a way to thank them all.
I feel like we should all get some sort of recognition for having sat through Sergio's incoherent rambling and complete inability to understand anything.
I was with him, until Matt read the passage and it was standers-by that asked why they needed the donkey, not (necessarily) the owner. Until then it sounded like “went to steal donkey, stopped by owner, said it was for god so the owner gave consent”. Which is not theft. It’s arguably attempted theft, although it would never be prosecuted since owners consent was given. As described by the caller, I would say Jesus was not perfect for telling another to steal. In reality, this seems like an easy one to come up with an apologetic for: 1) Just say Jesus knew the man was righteous and would happily allow the donkey to be borrowed; or 2) Claim Jesus spoke with the owner beforehand and told him He would soon send someone to borrow the donkey in the lords name, and the man have approval. These are unconvincing to atheists, but for someone that already believes Jesus is morally perfect and can see the future these apologetics make sense and the concern disappears.
I grew up surrounded by Evangelical Lutheran, I spent my life pretty much mostly as an agnostic but I dabbled in astrology and taro and other stupid s***. Thanks to Matt and Jimmy and Forest and of course all of the religious apologists calling into these shows I've been an atheist for about 8 months now. Much thanks to you guys and all you do
I'm a 60yr old Australian. Been an atheist for ever. I have no qualms whatsoever that I'll burn in hell for eternity. It'd be better than worshipping a tyrannical bully for eternity anyway. 🙃🇦🇺
Being proved wrong is a hard pill to swallow! Most of us have had the privilege of doing it internally, doing it on a radio show must be harder! Imagine some people having to deal with "my parents lied to me"...
You want to know about Jesus? How would you like it if someone came up to you and said, “I love you, I really, really love you, but if you don’t love me back, I’m going to set you on fire. That’s Jesus. That’s not salvation, that’s extortion. And it’s definitely not love. It’s like a Mafia thug telling you to obey the boss or I’m going to break your kneecaps. If you can love that person, you have a twisted idea of love.
The return of a metaphor for the one used is exactly what one sees all over YT comments these days. No original thought, no creative ideas, no unique personhood…all over “social” media.
Fun game for Christians: Name a random color. Do it for real, right now, just say a color, any color. Did you say a color? I bet you at least thought of a color right? You know what you didn't say or think?? "Oh gosh..there are so many colors, just pick one? hmm..I don't know. That would be so hard. Umm.. colors?? Not sure, but there are alot though." That would have been your brain trying to cover up the fact that you actually didn't know any colors. Much like you don't actually know any evidence for god.
Jesus didn't keep the 5th commandment either, which was, "Honour thy father and mother". He says in Luke 14 Verse 26..."If anyone comes to me and does not HATE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER, such a person cannot be my disciple"!
That's "hate mom and dad compared to how much they wuv MEEEEEEE". Or your love for x will be as hate, compared to your love for me. I don't buy it. But we should object based on real meaning. Not appearances.
The same God who poofed all of life into existence... has to steal a donkey? These stories aren't even half believable, and yet billions of people do believe them because they've been hyped for centuries!
25:15 i think at this point the mistake is not actually teaching him skepticism, epistimology, and stuff like this. He already become withdrawan, and the only reason he didnt admit to the stuff is probably force of habit and ego, not wanting to look stupid on call by admiting he was wrong. Like most people in a public debate type thing. But instead of shaming him , they could have given him some guidelines about how to evaluate evidence, some resources to learn more, some concepts like how a logical argument is made, and what a logical falacy is, and how to recognise a logical fallacy. Thease things would actually help this person evaluate theirown beliefs. This is just going to pander to atheists and agnostics, but most likely wont convince any religious people, or at least not most. I get that a part of this is entertainment, but if youre already doing this, at least have a strategy which also educates. This aproach can make some people doubt their beliefs sure, but without the propper philosophical framework, a lot of thease people become atheists for a few years, and then go back to religion I think we really need to rethink our strategy about this stuff. In my opinion, there is sometimes a need for a more agressive approach, but without the compassionate part, it wont work nerely as well . Have a good day
The donkey theft was a petty crime compared to when Jesus was subsequently swatted for piracy / pimping. People didn’t get crucified for tea-leaving or temple tantrums.
Well, yes, the god could create his own donkey. But this episode of "donkey purloin" was a team-building exercise. Read that book with reality tv in mind and you will soon find . . .
I just love how you literally spell things out to Sergio/any believer, they backtrack to deviate from having to agree. Its just stubborn theistic pride!
Poor Sergio. He is afraid of death and desperate to give his sad life some kind of meaning. And no doubt he thinks he’s doing great and real work leaning on a silly mythological folk text. I pity him, a little.
I have to say my heart breaks for all those who were born and/or raised without a fully developed or functional ability to engage reasoned, rational and critical thinking about such simple concepts, ideas and logic. I am however in great awe of those who managed to break from that dogma of “invisible man in the sky” syndrome. My parents were some of them and they are my superheros. THANKS MOM and DAD!! I love you!
-Don't debate drunk, folks.- Man, after watching this all the way through, I just wish this guy the best. I feel like he might be going through some stuff and I hope things work out for him

I always assumed Jesus had somehow arranged for that donkey. I mean the owner just let it go. "Jesus sent us." "Oh that's okay then." But Jesus broke several commandments though. I mean he wasn't exactly honoring his parents when he stayed in the Temple for three days. (KEVIN!!) Later, he practically told his own mother to piss off when she asked for help for the married couple that had run out of wine. He broke the sabbath and was called out on it, and then he acknowledged it by saying "Hey, the sabbath is for man, not for god" as if people had not been killed over the issue. Sergio could also have referred to Job, whom, as we are told, in fact kept the commandments to such an extent that even the Lord God himself was like "Look at my servant Job. Guy's absolutely perfect". Even after God fucks him completely up and he complains about it, the text explicitly states 'He did not sin in doing this'.
When I was younger and less "nice" I asked my lectors to explain the difference between religion and mental illness, schizophrenia to be exact. I'm not writing an essay here the gist of it is that its much about reasoning, knowing how reasoning works, abillity be concise when you apply reasoning and be prepared to revaluate, and let go, if your reasoning is flawed. Ppl with schizophrenia endure much in their lives as they, may be or never, find help that alleviate their sittuation. But they would gladly be able to.... "just let it go" so it diden't bother them. Ppl with theism endure much in their lives but unlike ppl with schizophrenia they have much better odds of successfuly being able just.... "Let it go", they just don't want to as "everyone" around them (unlike the poor ppl with schizophrenia) have told them theism is a healthy, good, honerable, accepted and reasonable thing. How we regard theism and schizophrenia depends on our social structure and one of them has the fortune to have not been classified as an mental illness, perhaps much due to the theists abillity to just... "Let it go" when they feel inclined/ ready. What's your thoughts on it? To me it seemed as if poor Sergio wanted to just..."let it go" a few times during the call, and are well within his capabilities to achieve that, but a younger me would most likely been terrified of how theists seems (according to me) to paint themselfs into the same corner as the schizophrenic people with their belief- / faith- reasoning, claiming to be proud of it/ deffending their belief, meanwhile they seemingly have no issue telling the schizophrenic people they're mentally ill for acting on their own beliefs and faith. What makes the theistic beliefs valid and the schizophrenic non-valid if personal "faith" / "beliefs" are what trumphs reality and reasoning?
@@BaronVonQuiply The Romans had stolen almost all the religions they followed. But, they could only steal the god of a conquered people. If they had ever been able to conquer Pershia, we'd probably all be worshipping Zoroaster today instead.
How to spell "trainwreck" in 32 minutes 26 seconds. Btw, even if we could somehow tell that the owner of the donkey gave permission, intentions matter. "Go get a donkey, if anyone asks you why you're taking it, say Jesus needs it" implies "if nobody asks, just take it". Never mind magically conjuring a donkey (you never know, Jesus might have been out of magicka or spent all his spell slots), it would be much simpler and quicker to just say "Go borrow a donkey"
I thought he did start the convo with he was supposed to find proof of it with a paragraph but couldn't find one, but he presented what he thought made most sense instead. I don't understand the outrage
I'll be honest... the guy just kinda sounds lonely. He called in to talk, he wanted to just have a bit of normal talk at the end where he tried to say something nice but the call was so hostile it just came off as a bit awkward.
I'm pretty sure Jeebus drove a demon out of a mad man and sent it into an entire herd of 2000 pigs who then went mad too and jumped off a cliff into the sea of Galilee. He could have just sent the demon to hell or put it in one of the pigs but he deliberately chose to destroy the farmer's entire livelihood. I live by a farm and we kind of frown on that sort of thing round here. Mind you we actually have morals which are rare as hen's teeth in the bible.
