Watching him skate was beautiful. Pure poetry in motion. Many people have done better lines with much harder tricks. But no one will ever look as good riding a skateboard as Christian Hosoi.
Nice!!! I never owned a Hammerhead. I had 3-5 Powell & Peralta Pro Models, but Hosoi Decks always got my attention. I was lucky to skate one on a 10-12’ wooden half pipe when I was 12 on Trackers w/SlimeBalls & it was a Vert Ramp Machine! You’re Smart & Lucky to have Kept Up with Yours!
HE should always be known as of being the greatest skateboarder of all time!! HE used to be first place just as Hawk was regularly second. That's why HE'S called the ROCKET MAN!!!
@@corporalclegg914 that's awesome man. I was super grateful that Hosoi gifted me a hammer head while we were filming and signed it. Hanging in my office/shed/studio now! No trucks or wheels, just a blank deck, but it's the story behind it that means the most to me. don't want scratch it up. hahaha.
@@ThisIsMyStoryPODCAST your wall just got way cooler. we’re all very lucky to have Hosoi around these days...he’s lucky to’ve made it out to share his Good, Bad & Ugly. Thanks for your Art
Back in the days, the reason why Christian Hosoi stood out from the rest, in my opinion, was because of his aggressive style and huge airs - as simple as that.
Christian - I followed you in the 80's. In Puerto Rico we didn't have ramps, nothing... we just skated on the street, reading the magazines, reading of you and great legends of that time, and watching skate movies ... and I am so happy you gave your life to the Lord!!! You are still an inspiration to me...hope to see you one day, if not see you in heaven !!!God Bless !!!
you are right !! pretty much I didn't have access to ramps or parks... we made our own quarter ramps, etc... I grew up in San Juan... and no skateparks at all..
Wow Puerto Rico tho?!! Never knew y’all had access to magazines out there in those times or even cared about pro skating out there, if anything it was surfing, that’s dope man, I’m Puertorican, has any pro skaters in the 80 skate in PR??
I watched Hasoi as a teenager in the 80s and was thrilled and motivated. I watched this today not knowing that he found Christ as his savior and wept tears of joy!!!!! Praise God......he is merciful and mighty!!!! So so glad to hear all of this bro!!!! God bless
Soo happy for you to find purpose and restored your relationship with god ! Awesome to see you still skating, your style is awesome as it has been ever since. Love peace and happiness ❤️🍀
Thank you Chriatian, for remaining true to who you are without abandoning your faith and recognizing who made you. Lots of people in the 80s hated skaters and punk because of what they percieved it represented. Christian was fortunate enough to discover God before it was too late and I really respect him for keeping on with his story. God bless, bro.
Psalms 51:1 "Have mercy according to the multitudes of your loving kindness, according to the multitude of your tender mercies, wash me of my iniquity, cleanse me of my sin, I acknowledge my transgressions." Praise God! This is the verse my sister asked me to read that brought me to Christ. I was on drugs and booze nothing had gotten me sober and this verse snapped me out of it. I've got over 5 years sobriety and I'm starting up an addictions ministry at my church. This is an awesome testimony. Bless you Christian may you keep sharing your testimony and keep spreading the Gospel to a perishing world. Romans 8:31 "If God is for us, who can be against us!" Amen!
Thanks for sharing Christian M. Stoked to hear your story. Jesus is more than just a fairytale or a weird story. He's making life new again for many people...Grace alone.
What a stand up guy. How the hell do you go from being an international skate rock-star to a drug addict to a felon and make it back? Not only make it back but come back sober, humble and healthy. Really an inspiration. Most folks (including myself) would be 6 feet under after that run.
KH was The King of Air while Hawk was the King of Skating and the stats don't lie, btw I happen to like Hosoi better than TH so theres no bias. Oh Mountain was the most stylish
I grew up skateboarding in Venice too. looked up to all these guys. Christian, Aaron Fingers Murry, Scott Oster, Jesse Martinez, Jeff Hartzel, Tim and Kelly Jackson and so many others. Took the bus from Culver City almost everyday to hang out in Venice. I too got busted and went to jail found a bible and gave my life to The Lord. Best thing I ever did! It's great to see Christian bold about his faith. Love desires to see men know and understand there is more to life than living for yourself. thanks for the Video!
When he said the part about David charging his son with how to live a godly life, and then telling him it'll be well with him and he'll prosper in all he does (God will take care of him)... I almost cried. I had to stop at work and bend down because I was so emotional. I have not succeeded in any of my life goals the past ten years. Two months later, I'm following what Christian encouraged us to do, keep God's word and follow it. I'm having so many God moments that it's exhausting to keep up with. From searching up the Christ Air trick in Tony Hawks Pro Skater, to where I am with God right now, what a ride.
Nice story...I remember him back in the day & he's definitely a living legend along w/Tony Hawk...can't believe he's 49 yrs old now but looks like he's taken care of himself & looks like he can still rip it on a skateboard. Stay blessed
I am 47 and still skating hard. I started in 86 and feel blessed to have grown up in California ( born & raised) in the same era as All the Legends. I have seen Hosoi skate many times at Venice skate park!
Great story......grew up in Phoenix AZ.... remember Christian showing up at a few of the local half pipes where we skated....he was one of my favorites!!! Awesome style and souch power and height i remember 😀😀😀....so good to hear he is doing well!!!
So awesome to see Christian find Jesus Christ and turn his life around. What really struck me is when he said he wanted to be the next Christian in the world...a champion! Now that’s the way to live!! God Bless you brother!!
im reading some of these comments and i gotta ask. why are people pissed that he got religious? if it stopped him from fuckin himself up on drugs and at life, then wouldn't that be a good thing? he made a positive turn and he still skates. that should make people feel a bit happy for the guy even if they aren't religious.
Drake Knight-Graves Right? You would think people would commend him for getting back on track. Many people underestimate the power of The Most high. Homie was hands down my favorite vert skater, and knowing he went through things we all deal with just makes him even more of a real hero.
Now I’m not a skater but I’ve always been a fan. I grew up in the 80s and was always in awe over that whole 80s skate scene with guys like you and bones brigade. Thank you for everything. You have always been inspiring to watch. Thank you for sharing this.
Who so ever honours me before man i will honour you before the angels any knob can salute the devil but if you want to be som eone then get a life this guy has done that bless his courage
I was born 1980 and I've struggled in addiction, institutions, jail, prison mental illness, and now I'm currently a 4 stager now. Yet I've always liked Christian hosoi better than hawk.
Thank you Christian for sharing your wonderful story. I watched Rising Son and was impressed by your life and accomplishments. It's beautiful to watch someone so passionate about an activity excel in it with such success. I am also a grateful recovery meth addict. For 20 yrs I was a smoker in bondage- finally free thanks to Our Lord Jesus Christ. I went thru falling in love with meth to learning about Jesus and how he can set me free from my addiction. God bless you and your family. We have such wonderful testimonies to share with others. Such inspirational experiences. I was never into skateboarding but your story was recommended to me by a brother in recovery. God waits until we call on him (sometimes at our lowest and later in life) cuz he is a gentleman, Our Father who doesn't invade our lives. He waits patiently until we invite him in to enjoy his blessings of love, grace, mercy, etc. Our service to him is to share his message to others. "For God so loved the world, He sent His Son (Jesus Christ), that whosoever believed in Him, shall not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16
@@MrPompousClownHi good morning 😁just wonderful, thank you for asking. I just celebrated my 9th year of sobriety with Jesus. I’m still repenting everyday and meditating on scripture. My favorites are love is patient, love is kind, love does not demand its own way, and love does not keep a record of wrongs. Jesus is still my LORD and Savior- I’ve committed my new life to Him. I’ve got to work on a video testimony to upload some day soon. Thank you for your time, your comment, and have a great day. GOD bless you in Jesus’ name.
@@nataliemontoya7854So good to hear! Our struggles in life are real, as are our depravity and will to self destruct which includes addiction. It's a product of the fall - the separation from God but in our new nature our flesh wars against the spirit and vice versa. Just know this, you are being sanctified every day and no matter what you have assurance of salvation but rely on him for strength as everything that happens is to glorify him. By no means do I mean to relax although you are free in Christ Jesus, but remember his promises and be mindful to be faithful as you've been doing. Our confidence and hope is found in Christ. Here's a passage to reflect on. Romans 8:28-39 Btw, Psalm 23 is one of my favorites when I'm feeling faithless or scared. I encourage you to share your testimony, as I think about my seemingly unbelievable story. But my only boast is in God, and my focus is on sharing the gospel with others who are lost and desperately in need of God's saving graces. - Benjamin
So proud of you, Bro. I was amazed as a kid at your skills, but I am more amazed by your Faith. You have arrived and it is well with you, Hallelujah! Your story is a blessing.
Good for you. you were my favorite as a kid. I am amazed you guys can still do the things you do. proud of you for turning your life around too! Never seen airs like you pulled off
I loved your quote, i lived 5 years as a free man in prison. Before I knew God I was In a prison of my mind trapped by depression and anxiety so bad that I felt so k to the stomach being near a other human. And god gave me peace and love and in one prayer it all went away. Ever gone back to that situation since.
Hosoi you are a legend and come full circle and made it thru. I met you once or twice in venice and you were always super down to earth and genuine i just wish i had a camera at the time.
I got a few chances to skate with Christian… Power, flow, determination, and A L L the steez!!! He knew who he was and what he meant to skateboarding… And he was always gracious and generous… Thank you for everything ,Holmes!!!
So good ! Christian I lost my Facebook dude. That's why I fell off. Still here man ,yer still ripping and dude you were still a good dude when you were a little lost. You sat and talked to me for a long time when vert was on its way out. People don't realize sometime you are the OG ATV!
Wow, I first started going to Venice with my parents in 1978/79. In 1986 right after HS me and a buddy went to Venice in a camper and stayed a couple of day's. I took numerous pictures with a poloroid one step, (still have the pics), and one of them is of the guy playing guitar at 3:47 He was on roller skates in the pic I took of him back in 1986. Swear he looks like he's barely aged, and damn that was almost 30yrs ago.
Christian Hosoi! My number one favourite skater as a kid, i started skating around -83 :D Hes riding style and tweaks were the most stylish of all, none taken away from the other legends of the time, bones brigade for example, also idols! Greetings from Sweden and bless all
Hello everyone. I am the creator of the videos you see on our youtube channel. This is my first time to comment. I've seen and ready almost every comment from every video I've produced. Hopefully you don't mind that I comment as well. For those who have been offended by my films with athletes, like Hosoi who are openly Christians, it is not meant to do that. That is not the purpose. The purpose is simply sharing our passion for both sports and our faith. We're not perfect, and we don't judge anyone. I get it though...if you don't believe in God or Jesus, and you're looking for a pure skate video, it would appear that we tricked you...Not my intentions at all...In fact it's the opposite...We like Skate boarding...I skate. I hoped that even someone who doesn't believe in God or hates God would watch our stories and mutually respect a non-judgmental approach to the way Christianity is being portrayed...I work very hard to not allow the athletes to get preachy or speak in 3 person so as not to assume or push our beliefs or their beliefs on anyone...It's meant to be informative...a story. A true story if you will that is real to them, believe in it or not...So if you don't want to accept the message, that is understandable. The goal would be to showcase the person of Jesus and God through the impact of a persons (humans) faith or belief in them. take it or leave...maybe some take it. Obviously some leave it.
I love your videos man great job I'm an artist myself I paint pictures of things but I am just now learning the art of making movies and video editing and I am falling in love with it. These documentaries of redemption give me hope I was addicted to meth for many years shooting up, but God had mercy on me.
Jeff Chen well it goes against what society wants to be. America has become a violent and vulgar place. a segregated place for Christians. but it's still home for now, for here there is no continuing city😀
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 one of the greatest to step on a board! If people feel turning to god for an answer so be it! He isn’t trying to sell you on it! Great video
You were the Bruce Lee of skating... Your a legend, So Glad you found God and still have Faith, of course god is real.. let no man tell you any different. Keep skating.. Nice video Christian, God bless you!
Your attitude in life will allow you to overcome anything. I loved Christian's quote when he said he was freed when he got locked up. Freed from all his vices and downward spiral. His bold acceptance of religion allowed him to become a person of great standing and I salute him!
My goodness this story rings so true in my life as well. I grew up watching Christian Hosoi, went to see him skate in '89 & '90 in Hawaii. It makes my heart so happy to hear that he committed his life to Lord Jesus as well. My life was a nightmare before God freed me from the bondage of Satan. There is so much demonic presence in this world and we don't stand a chance unless we have Christ in our lives here on Earth and more importantly, in the life after death. Turn away from sin, turn to Jesus and be spared from the second death.
That dude on the skates in the turbin is a Rippin' guitar player. I can't remember his name but my friend got one of his cassettes a long time ago and it was great! "There's a message!"
Christian your story is remarkable I am so glad that you are living a happy life now God bless you and your family I hope the best for you your inspiration is the best
I am a Christian and I grew up watching you you are one of my favorites skaters. It’s great to see that you have come to know the truth about Jesus Christ
Greetings everyone! Welcome to 2021! Dropping in a line to let you all know This Is My Story is in the works of launching a new website, new film and a PODCAST! Hopefully bringing great conversations, stories or inspiration and connections for us all, to God. Love to know if you're interested in something like that and have any thoughts, suggestions.
This dude was a rock star at such a young age and got sucked in hard towards that lifestyle way too fast. Most would have never survived his journey, but this dude is a fighter and deserves much respect. Godspeed to Christian Hosoi--a SoCal legend!
As a young youth you ,Tony hawk,Lance mountain, Steve Caballero oh hell the hole bones brigade influence me to skate and I was set free thank you for you for your life on earth skate on brother.
dude only deserves massive props no matter where he's gone in life. Anyone who disrespects him doesn't respect the world of skateboarding. bottomline. whatever gets you clean and up in the morning God or not good on ya. courage
“And, I spent five years in prison. You know everyone said it’s such a shame, he was free to being in prison. And, I say it was me being in prison my whole life, living in sin and death, on the edge of spending eternity without God. And, by his grace, I was still alive to accept him in my heart that day that I did, and then I spent five years in prison a free man.” Christian Hosoi -10:30-
Hallelujah! Not ashamed to say I got teary watching this, the word if God is so powerful, the answers to all of our problems are in that book, not the Mormon one, not the Jahova’s witness one, not the catholic one but the original one from the original translation, the King James or the new King James Version is what we need. Peace
I followed him back in day and its refreshing to see some skaters I followed now following Christ like me....we all fall short but with prayer and repentness He saves us....God bless my brotha!
Yep. We feel the same way. Be blessed Brandon! Be on. the look out for Hosoi to join our podcast later this year. New site dropping thisismystory.org in May!
