We’re living in an era of apostasy, spiritual mediocrity, blindness to the effects of sin, and an over-zealousness to recover what has been lost in our post-Christian culture around the world. I’m just as frustrated as anyone. Hell is real and its paradigms have played out in the 20th century. We’re just waking up to the fallout now. Our only hope is to strive for holiness and rest confidently in Christ Jesus and His providential care-He does love us. You chaps are great🙏

This was such an important conversation. I hope in the future there is a discussion on what exactly is Hell...as John 3:16 says that people without Christ .."Perish". I know it was briefly mentioned in the conversation about human finiteness...but, it is this aspect of Torture and Burning in flames that makes people wonder about the justice of this discription of Hell. Anyway...glad I found your channel!

"No one can rejoice at the idea of Hell." I did. Granted, I was convinced of the reality of Hell at the same time I was convinced of the reality of the soul, so I can't completely separate the two. It was also the moment I finally felt like morality had some solid ground to stand on. So many ideas and questions clicked together. I have not despaired since that day. I still sometimes feel helpless, lost, weak, discouraged, but I no longer wish for an end to life. Glory to God! (I swear, it used to seem so disingenuous when I saw people praising God in the comments, as if they had no ability or right to feel such depths of gratitude, or to express it. Now I feel childish for doubting their experience. Peace!)

A good discussion. Enlightening. My second time watching it. I'm not Catholic, but am convinced that one needs to understand all branches of the Faith as best as possible. We all have something to contribute. I've read Parry's book. Although his argument is attractive, I didn't find it convincing. As you point out, he especially had to do a lot of exegetical gymnastics in Revelation. Regarding Rohr, the man has an enormous influence beyond Catholicism and, in my view, is dangerous to a degree that Balthazar will never be due to his popularity among the masses. I am intrigued, however, with Eastern Christianity's somewhat quasi-panentheism. God is in some sense in all things, yet does not lose his transcendence. I think this is related to the energies/essence distinction in Orthodoxy and adds to the mystical aspect of its Faith. I would be interested to hear your thoughts on this. Thanks.

Walk through the fields, pluck the flowers, leave the weeds may work for scholars who devote their lives to this study. For the Catholic in the pew, however, I am troubled by those who, de facto, endorse von Balthasar by including his quotes or referencing him in their book introductions. I fear that people see that much and settle the issue that von Balthasar - hence Bishop Barron- may be trusted.

Great brain food- thank you! I’m struck, yet again, by the lengths to which we humans will go to rationalize “non serviam!”

I appreciate Ralph's insight on AVS. I happened upon a book of hers in a book-weeding, "Confessions". Had no clue who she was, and saw HUvB's intro, and thought it should be good. Seemed meaty, until it seemed that she was promoting the possibility of breaking the seal of confession. (I sent the book to recycling.) After hearing Ralph speak on this later, I was frightened to hear later yet that one of our local seminaries was promoting her readings.

Last minute repenters are definitely only known to God alone. No one generally can know, rarely perhaps a close family member might see or sense some sort of repentance or signs of it…. but for the most part it’s an unknown area. And one cannot count on it. Bcoz we are told by many saints and church fathers that at the last minute of one’s death, the devil increases his temptations and efforts to get the soul to condemnation too! Who can guarantee that with the most feeble physical and psychological and emotional and even spiritual conditions that a person would be in, that he or she would even HAVE the strength or fight the devil and choose God when in his days of strength he couldn’t??? That’s a thing we ought to remember.

Thanks to all of you. I have a little saying that I share with people: Don't Miss It; Heaven won't be the same without you... it appeals to the narcissistic culture and challenges them to seek out just how U get to heaven. One scriptural reference is Galatians 5 . 😁😭 U must decide per JPII ...😍

Isn't the new-age "universal christ" an intentional distortion of the concept of the Body of Christ in Mistici Corporis Christi? Do the dates bear this out? when was the new age concept first 'out there'?
@alphonsofamilyfaithwitness5220
Christ is the Only Way! Those who know Him and reject Him in this life are endangering their souls for sure. However, how does anyone know what happens in their last moment when they take their last breath? They could grab at that last straw and get a chance to be purified in Purgatory and they.might have to suffer there greatly but they might still make it! How else can one explain the Fatima Prayer that Our Blessed Mother herself taught the 3 Fatima children to pray? "and lead ALL souls to heaven especially those in most need of Thy mercy"

Interesting discussion! But i would have liked the panel to speak of the vision of Saint Faustina of Hell and what she saw. Also C S Lewis spoke to the existence of Hell and that fact that the flag of Truth must be planted in the unrepentant should that he may now what he truly is. The unrepentant should cannot have the last laugh.

The Bible talks about different compartments of hell and says Jesus descended into hell to preach the gospel to those in a place called Abraham’s Bosom which was a place that was not the burning flames and punishment of hell but a section that held those who had died because they lived righteously like Abraham, and Job, Isaiah all the righteous God had anointed in the Old Testament but could not go to heaven until Christ was crucified and rose. When He rose and proclaimed to them they got to see their Messiah then they were brought into heaven by him. The sinners, remained in hell along with the fallen angels.

Perishing. That's what' its about. God commands us, orders us to love him or he will punish us forever.
@CICMCB

As far as your discussion about hell, Jesus talked about hell and the New Testament as well. There are different compartments to hell. Read The Divine Revelation of Hell by Mary Baxter. We are finite but our spirits are not. Our spirits are eternal and we will spend eternity in heaven or the lost sinner in hell. It’s all in the scripture. It’s real. Two thieves on either side of Jesus at the crucifixion and He told only one theif today you will be with me in paradise. He recognized Jesus as God only he was saved. Where did the other thief go? 🔥

Yes, universalism is a problem (because it's wrog) and it looks like it could grow into a very big problem, but for people who say they believe in God but don't follow the Church , I think that it's not perceived as a problem. I think that virtually all of them would agree that Hitler, Stalin and Mao are in hell (and will stay there). Their problem, though they 're not aware of it, is that they think they're going to heaven!
