I’m 72 years old and I was a teenager and this was played on my radio in the the 70s. I retired from the Marine Corps in 2000 after a 30 year career. This makes me feel like a teenager all over again.👍🇺🇸 Great song!!!!
My teenage times! The music was real, the singers were artists, the musicians were real skilled performers. I loved your songs, Jeff Christie. This is unforgettable time.
That was the early 70's when I was a grade 10 in the oeient and move to Texas in 73. You guess it I am an old man. Music stays the same, gone was the time. Thank you for the videos . Back then there were music videos. Grandfather of MTV. Thank you for sharing. 👍👍👍👍👍
Love this song each time I hear it and it never gets old! Transports me back 45 years in a blink of a teary eye. Definitely in my all time top 10! THANK YOU CHRISTIE!

So long boy, you can take my place Got my papers, I got my pay So pack my bags and I'll be on my way To Yellow River Put my gun down, the war is won Fill my glass high, the time has come I'm goin' back to the place that I love Yellow River Yellow River, Yellow River Is in my mind and in my eyes Yellow River, Yellow River Is in my blood, it's the place I love Got no time for explanations Got no time to lose Tomorrow night you'll find me sleepin' Underneath the moon At Yellow River Cannon fire lingers in my mind I'm so glad I'm still alive And I've been gone for such a long time From Yellow River I remember the nights were cool I can still see the water pool And I remember the girl that I knew From Yellow River Yellow River, Yellow River Is in my mind and in my eyes Yellow River, Yellow River Is in my blood, it's the place I love Got no time for explanations Got no time to lose Tomorrow night you'll find me sleepin' Underneath the moon At Yellow River Yellow River, Yellow River Is in my mind and in my eyes Yellow River, Yellow River Is in my blood, it's the place I love
I am 66 now. Living in Cebu city.Phillipines. This song reminds me back to 1979...when I was working in Hskl.Dpt...Dhaka Sheraton ..and "Miles"....group were playing in "Chameli" restaurant....Oh..those ..golden..happy ..days...
Amazing sound from just 3 musicians.Shows you that if it is good an authentic you don't need special effects and electronics to be able to make good music.Just pure raw talent.
It was actually recorded by The Tremeloes, with Jeff Christie's lead vocal added afterwards. None of the people in the video played an instrument on the recording.
You poor innocent dope! Read up on the story before making idiot posts like this. The musicians on the backing track are the Tremeloes, and only Jeff Christie singing after the tremeloes decided not to release it with their singer on it. There is also piano which must have been an overdub if not an extra session musician. They gave it to the drummer's brother to release and a band was created around him and Jeff the songwriter and singer to mime on the TV and in the video. That's why they took Jeff's surname for the band! Only their less successful followups were recorded by the band you see in the pictures
Hi Marco, Thanks for your message and good wishes. I loved playing in Brasil at the dawn of the '70's and especially loved the music, people, culture, black beans, Mangera, Rosemary,Caetano Veloso, Sergio Mendes, Roberto Carlos, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Astrud Gilberto, Gilberto Gil to name a few. I shall return! Saudade do Brasil! Jeff
Jeff, you wrote this for The Tremeloes who recorded but later rejected it. You took it and recorded over The Tremeloes version and made it a smash it. What a classic tune you wrote.
Takes me back to the 70's when everything was so different from now London ain't the same place that i grew up in its changed beyond belief well sad when i think about it what has happened to the place don't hear any parties or music coming out of windows anymore and thats called progression take me back
1970, along with 20 classmates travelling on a train bound for Frankfurt, this song improved our English overnight, as we sang this over and over about 100 times. I'll never forget that.
I was 13 years old when this came out and it is STILL one of my favourites. A song about a civil war (some say Vietnam) American soldier who has served his military time and now can go home. A timeless subject. Great lyrics , musical presentation. Home - family, friends, peace & quiet. What a song!
@@АлександрИльин-д8ч The inspiration for the song came from the American civil war and a soldier going home after it had ended. But I see your point, it could be applied to any war or nationality.
I was born in 70 but thanks to my dad this song was a huge part of my childhood. I've bought the Jeff Christie/outer limits solo album and it's fantastic. Thanks for the music Jeff Christie ✌
reminds me of the saturday night parties my late parents had martini and cheese and pineapple on sticks plus lots of cheesey dance tunes god i miss my parents songs like this make me wish i could turn the clock back just for one day maybe xx
I'm glad you like it. This was a time when people still believed that peace and love could triumph over fear and hatred. It's up to your generation to bring those days back.
SHUT UP!!! MUSIC IS ALWAYS GREAT. NO MATTER TIME, SOUND OR GENRE...WAIT, YOU ARE RIGHT...TODAY MUSIC STINKS WORSE THAN GAME OF THRONES AND IT'S SERIES FINALLY.

Makes me miss all my loved ones that are gone now so much, I was six when they were all dancing to this. The juke box had six records on it and this was one of them ❤ XXX best days of our lives xxxx
I remember when this song got alot of airplay back in the summer of 1970. When I watch you Jeff Christie, singing in the woodsy area, I get a feeling all over again of what it felt like at the time. I miss that era terribly.
Man does this bring me back...I haven't heard this in years!! Yellow River is anywhere you want it to be. The only place you wanted to be when you were in country..Awesome!!!
Dear Jeff, I discovered "Yellow River" earlier this year on a Swedish retro station at the age 37. It is one of the best pop songs I have ever heard. I conveyed my adoration of the song to my Dad, and he told me that it was a big favourite of his when he was a student in Leeds in 1970. Thank you for the music! Steve
Been there, done that--'Nam '69. This was one of those songs that helped me forget THOSE times. Great foot tappin' song! Thanks for the memories, man,God bless you.
Exactly so Gusdocs 1 now in the 2022, just mimicking, talking to the beat, cussing . . . Now htis / these, these were goo - ood true & real songs! The most unfortunate is, these musical artists in the 70s were very under rated & unappreciated, unlike these what ever their name; oo - ooh, baby I love you 82 times, & getting an Emmy for that??! So acll me old fssioned, but these music / songs cant be ever replaced, no way no how!
I am a goi. 53 years old... from circuncised heart.. I am a teenger again with this shy song.. That is incredible ..Toda raba youtube!! Made my day. Shalom YittzjadJehudi. My english is not fluently. but i learn fast.. and indeed/real I do not understand the letter yet.
Still awesome and evocative after all these decades. Great stuff tends to stay great, and I'd love to play this song sometime at a live gig. Five stars all the way.
Play...play...replay...never tire of this...I was six when this came out in 1970 and my brother walked home with the Epic yellow label 45 of THIS...played on our tube powered RCA console stereo it had such a presence...
The last few days, late December 2023, I've had this song in my head. Yellow River was on 630 CHED, the rock station here in Edmonton Alberta Canada when I was young. Great, great song !! 👌👍
I was only 2 and half years old in the summer of 1970. Maybe they played this song very often in the following summers as well. But I remember very well, and still love so much, this song.
This is a song about the Yellow River in America during the civil war. Put my gun down, the war is won! Yellow River is in my blood... Thank you, Christie 🙂
Wow just rediscovered this again! Happy memories. And with the original drummer Mick Blakley. I reheard this the other day, and just like before I cant stop singing it to myself like before!
This is the correct speed I remember when it first came on the radio. I do remember my band The Sunshine Band playing it a bit slower now in Corpus Christi,Texas. Thanks Jeff for the memories!
This is indeed the original and the very best version by any standard, in fact, I'd have to call "Yellow River" by Christie one of the very best rock records ever made. It spent 23 weeks on the charts in the USA in the summer of 1970 (not the '60s). Too bad the long ending fade is shortened in this video transfer. Members: Jeff Christie (lead vocals, bass), Vic Elmes (guitar) and Mike Blakely (drums). Mike's brother, Alan, was a member of The Tremeloes ("Silence is Golden," etc.)
I just added this song to a post on my Substack. It still sounds great today: ) " I spent a lot of my early years in my bedroom listening to music or grabbing a hairbrush and singing to one of the latest chart songs in front of my mirror. On that note, I will always remember my grandmother walking in on me bouncing up and down on my bed, hairbrush in hand, belting out Yellow River by the band Christie. Now that was a sight to behold!"
I recall when this song was a HUGE hit in San Francisco radio; even the Stanford University Band did an instrumental of this song at the time. Oddly enough, oldies radio since that time (in the US) hasn't played this song, and I was a devout oldies radio fan, listening to that format from the mid-1970s to the present. Even the "Classic Rock" stations (in the US), nothing! Sidenote: I have the original release of the Epic Records album this song came on, catalog # "E 30403" where the Epic label misspelled the "San Bernardino" song title with leaving off the second "r". A friend of mine spotted that misspelling as he lived in that Southern California region.
Jeff, howdy! Gee, what a cool song this is. Just for you, Jeff, to know, it took Brazil over back then. It was an anthem, mandatory in parties, a lullaby song for so many teen romance all over the country. Thank you, buddy. It brought me some good memories. Cheers! Marco
😢Nem sequer me lembro de quando ouvi essa musica pela ultima vez, hoje tenho 63 anos, fez muito sucesso por aqui. Assistindo no Brasil em 20/09/24 quem mais está ouvindo em 2024?
It takes me back in Algiers when I was kid, a fellow student went on stage to play and sing the song perfectly. And we are some over 50 years now I live near Manchester. My favourite city is Leeds where Christie is from
